I'm still on boost shakes, same pre op diet is my post op diet for two weeks except I can have sf Jello, sf Popsicles, and broth now I believe. So far I have only been doing the boost shakes and Water though because I get full so fast and for long that I need my calories an Protein from the shakes right now. My fiancée did just help me take a shower and that felt amazing!!

Omg I about cried in my 15 minute drive home yesterday. I would have just stayed in a motel it I were you!!! Cheaper than gas and not worth the pain and suffering lol

I would have loved to stay in the hotel but my dad is 91 and he lives with me and I take care of him so I had to get home. It's hard to get someone to come into the house to help that he likes. Lol. I would have felt so guilty I couldn't stand it.

Oh I understand now, I would have toughed it out and done the same in your situation I am sure. You are a trooper!!!

Had my surgery on the 24th. I came home last night. It is a 2 hour drive and that really wiped me out. I have a drain and it is flowing which I guess is good. Getting the fluids in OK but not easy. Setting around dozing off. My kids food smells terrible but the food commercials k great! Hope others from the 24th are doing well!

Sorry to be a "Debbie Downer" but I just need to know...does anyone other than me feel absolutely miserable? Can't eat anything, smells are even gross. I feel EXACTLY like I did with morning sickness but 24/7. I'm 9 days out today. I am non-stop nauseous. I called my surgeons office and they don't seem to think it a big deal...yet. They gave me a prescription of anti-nausea meds, they do nothing for me. I'm not getting Protein or Vitamins right now either. I haven't thrown up, i just feel like i'm on the brink of it non-stop. Well, I can get my Water in fine so thats a plus.

Thanks for any input.

Had mine the 24th too. Not at all hungry but seems like every fricking commercial is a food one. Lol

Kim, sorry that you are going through this. I don't know what type of products you are using for your Protein, but I had to try a few different ones to find a taste I liked along with the unflavored one. Keep plugging along and things will improve, remember we are at the beginning of a life long journey :)

Thanks ladies!

Shannon I don't think that is what my anti nausea medicine is called. I have to check. It is encouraging that you felt similar but it got better. Today I ate nothing at all. I made my family have a delivered pizza because I cant stand the smell of cooking. I showered the entire time they had dinner so not to smell it.

I think this is getting worse everyday.

The Proteins I have tried...it's a very long list! I easily have $600.00 in Protein sitting here. Isopure unflavored, Bariatric Advantage chocolate, Body Fortress Chocolate, Pure Protein Chocolate and vanilla, the protein bullets from Walmart, Liquid Protein from Vitamin World, Geletein, and Medical Protein-Prosourse No Carb. I just can not stomach anything! Please tell me what you guys are using for Vitamins if they taste good. I ordered the Bariatric Advantage Calcium Caramels. The calcium I have now is Wellease. Yuck. I have liquid Centrum and a B-12/B complex liquid. All tasted gross but not TOO bad before the surgery, now I pit them in the cupboard so I don't have to see them! I'm at a loss. This is beginning to become too much for me to handle. I'm sick and sad.

Please send me your email address and I will email you some recipes for shakes you can make yourself they are awesome.. My surgeon gave them to me... High protein and low cal. Not costly. Put some of those Protein drinks you don't like on eBay or Craigslist. Get some of your money back, someone will buy them, at least recoup some of that money if you can. I think you'll like these Protein Drinks and they are inexpensive to make.

Hi all. Had my RNY on Monday, March 24th. Really starting to feel better now. The gas is finally moving it's way and I am much more mobile. Am still very thankful for the liquid pain meds. Had a few rough days with gas pains, but just took it 1 day at a time. Am struggling a little to get in all the liquids. Today only had 1 16 oz bottle of Water, 2 servings of chicken broth, 1 serving of Decaf coffee, and a sugar free popsicle. According to MyFitnessPal that was a total of 35 calories for the day. Tomorrow I am going to set the 4 Water bottles next to me to remind me to keep drinking it. Today was a big nap day, which I imagine is good fo healing.

I am still hanging on to some hospital/surgery weight. Not at all surprised. LOL My doctor;s office wants us to weight every day for the rest of our lives. so I do, and I log it in a small pocket calendar. The surgery weight is coming off, not that I was worried it wouldn't.

My sleeping is all over the place. I take a LOT of naps and then sleep for about 3 hours at night before I am back to my up an hour nap a half hour schedule. LOL Ok, so my pain medicattion post is now coming to a close, nap time.

I am so grateful for all of you. What a blessing to be able to share each other's journeys.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
