December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Recommended Posts

After all the talk about bowels. I decided to take action before the surgery and start Mira-lax and some Fiber. May as well get the pipes clean out tonight. Lol

You're a smart woman! Not doing a bowel prep in advance (wasn't required or suggested) is probably my single surgery regret.

My surgeon had me take two bottles of Mag citrate the day before surgery; I was cleaned out before surgery This is all air and I suspect related to dumping syndrome, although, it's not supposed to happen or less so with VSG. I think it might be related to the sweet juices (apple, Jello, cran raspberry). I've cut back on the sweet products and it's a little better. I see the doctor tomorrow and will check on it then.

This totally happened to me. Took pain meds (hydrocodone) for the first four days home. By the fifth day, I was in more pain. Pain behind and to the left of that largest incision, hip pain, back pain, and nausea. Having had several c-sections and stalled bowels as a result of the surgery + anesthesia + post-op pain meds, I immediately recognized the sensation. Stopped pain meds immediately (though did reintroduce liquid Tylenol a couple of days later), and begin to hit the Constipation stuff hard. For me, it took prune juice, Colace, Miralax, a mineral oil enema, and about two days for relief. Afterwards, IMMEDIATElY better. I've been regular since without meds, and only one time since have I regretted not taking a stool softener. Think about what your nurse said. There's a very good chance she's right.

Thank you! I will see tomorrow. I hadn't been taking much. The only difference today is that I tried the Wal-Mart brand Water flavor drops in my water. I'm going to eliminate that and continue on the constipation angle (although I did go yesterday, all day!).

Are you having to crush your pain meds and drink them? I had to and talk about nasty,

Hi Tami...

I am on Lortab and it is a liquid that comes in little individual cups...and I am quite sure has to be the worst tasting liquid medication I have ever tasted in my entire life...lol

Had surgery on 16th. Still at hospital. Gas pains are a doozy. They burn especally in my chest.

Not able t tolerate food or anything with flavor. Hospital has tea, broth, popsicle, Water. I take the water 30 cc at a time.

Threw up once when they tried switching me from morphine injections to liquid lortab. Throwing up = no bueno.

Walking right away was one of the best choices ... On the other hand, sped up the whole gad thing. Still not able to pass gas or go #2 but yhey think tomorrow is the day.

In pain but looking forward to tomorrow and the days after.

Ah-being able to get up and do some washing pf my face, brush teeth, etc was a great feeling and may help you feel rejuvenated.

Will update some more in a bit.

Good morning and good luck to the 18-ers today! I'm about to go in for my leak test. A little dry heaves and gas pain last night, yuck. But still able to tolerate liquids well thank goodness. No real pain other than the gas. It stayed in my belly and didn't move to shoulder, phew. I have nice small incisions, my surgeon rocks! Feeling much better mentally and glad I went through with this :) hope everyone else is well too!!

Well up and getting packed for the hospital. To all those already there, praying for a safe passage to the loser's bench. For the rest of us today and the rest of the week remember to stay clam and breathe. The loser's bench is right around the corner. To all those recovering keep up the hard work and keep us posted. Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
