  3. I just converted from sleeve to bypass. My body needs lower carb to lose weight. That's where I went wrong with the sleeve. So I have been counting carbs since the day I got out of the hospital and will hopefully keep counting lifelong. I need this second chance to work so for myself, I don't seem to be someone who can eat "normal" but just less. Maybe I am carb sensitive. So I aim for 20 g of carbs but will allow up to 35.
  4. I don't necessarily feel full either. However, we shouldn't be aiming for full. You don't want to stretch anything. We should be aiming for satisfied. I don't really feel anything. So as suggested, I measure my food and only eat that. The times I think nbn I feel full, the feeling is in my chest. I'm happy because I don't have a gratifying feeling from eating anymore. I have an "I ate" feeling.
  5. I was able to tend to myself but now at 12 days out, it's still uncomfortable to bend over. I don't want to screw anything up before my FMLA is up (I have 4 weeks) so I am not bending over, picking anything up, or pushing my mom in her wheelchair. I can cook, clean the kitchen. I'm not doing laundry or vacuuming.

  7. I was told it just meant I didn't have much swelling. I was able to drink well after both surgeries. My postop diet plan is clears in hospital, full liquids the rest of the first week, puree for week 2, soft weeks 3 and 4, full diet week 5 and on. I can take 2 swallows at a time. If I take 3, it hurts. It takes about 30 minutes to finish as shake. I have some hunger; however, I do feel like if I actually took a bite of solid food, that would be all I could do.
  8. Hi Ellie, Mine was Monday as well. I've been drinking just fine since I got home (released next day). I drink 2 chocolate premier protein drinks, 1 clear premier protein, and half a cup of broth or strained cream of broccoli soup. My pain is better than with the sleeve. I had gained 50 pounds back, had GERD. This time I had a hiatal hernia and he fixed a diaphragmatic hernia. I had my pain in my chest but my incisions and stomach have not hurt. I had taken 4 doses of miralax and still hadn't pooped. Today I took milk of magnesia, half dose, and just finally went. I didn't feel constipated but figured I needed to get things moving. I've lost 6 pounds since the morning of surgery. I did not have a preop diet.

  11. My NUT said things may taste too sweet. I did not have a preop diet, so I did not come off of sugar or anything like that. I'm having the opposite in that my premier chocolate shake tastes like water and the sugar free jello that I used to like, has no flavor at all.

  13. I had a small bag. I took my contacts/solution, chapstick, kindle (which didn't use), phone and charger. That's it.

  15. My surgeon's office says 3 meals plus 2 snacks for bypass patients. Early on, it is 1/4 and then up to 1/2 cup. They have sleevers at 3/4 cup. NUT said for soft phase, 1 ounce of meat and 2 or 3 green beans, for example.

  19. I was 8/6. Going home now. Also had a hiatal hernia repair (did any know I had one. It wasn't there when I had the sleeve.) Also had a congenital hernia in my diaphragm, so he fixed that too. That is where my pain is. I have dilaudid this time, which is really helping. I usually don't have much success with pain meds working. Clears only in the hospital, water and broth are going down fine. Full liquids when I get home.

  21. This is what I posted on another post: I got my sleeve in December 2013 at 315 lbs. Pretty strict for about 10 months. Next holidays, added some goodies and seemed to be able to maintain (had gotten to 210). Never got below that despite being active, not snacking, drinking only Water, not drinking with meals, and eating appropriate portions. For my system, just eating less and exercising isn't enough. I'm at 250 now, less active due to work and caring for my mom who can't be left alone. Surgeon said even if I went back to super strict on the eating, I would lose some but he wants me comfortably below 200 and said I would need the bypass to have hope of getting there and staying there. Eating less and exercising didn't work before the sleeve, maybe I should have considered that having the sleeve wouldn't be much different for me. Hopefully having the added component of malabsorption plus the knowledge that I need to maintain a decently strict lifelong meal plan, will be what works for me.

  23. I was prescribed pills. Never had a problem with them. I do have exaggerated pain from any surgeries. I had tramadol and toradol and then went back 5 days later and was given oxycontin. None helped, but taking pills isn't an issue.
  24. I am converting to bypass from sleeve. I had no issues, could eat, was hungry. Hair falls out with most surgeries, but tends to cycle back back once your protein is up. I'm 45, clearly I've tried eating less and exercising to lose weight (which is basically the sleeve). For me, I maybe should have considered that in the beginning and had the bypass for the added malabsorption benefit. No guarantee to won't tolerate sweets. Best thing to do is don't try to find out!
  25. I'm August 6th, sleeve to bypass revision too.
  26. From my understanding, anything clear without caffeine is considered in your water intake. So your clear protein drinks should count as protein and water.
