Hi All - haven't posted for a while but have been reading posts that pop up on my phone. Sounds like we have all gotten to the point where the weight isn't falling off anymore. I've been at a stall but haven't been exercising or drinking enough Water so it's not a surprise. That said I have officially lost 100 pounds and am comfortably in a size 12. That is only one size away from what I was my senior year in high school...:0 I can't beleive that! I have to say this is pretty much the best decision I've ever made. I know I'm healthier over all and have already seen positive results career wise. It's amazing how people judge you because of the extra weight--not fair but that's how it is. I haven't kept any of my old clothes--no room with all the new ones! I passed them on to others to wear so they wouldn't go to waste. I'm actually looking forward to taking pictures at my work wiinter social this Saturday. I can't remember a time when I was excited to go shopping for a dress--but boy am I. Hugs & kisses to you all - we are rocking this!!!

Well I got home from my moms last night. I was there for two weeks hwlping my dad because my mom was in the hospital. She was in since 1/26 with chf, failing kidneys and now c diff. Mom came home friday and is still super weak and requires home health but she's home.

In the two weeks I learned a lot about myself. I am a good daughter. I never want to be obese again (crux of moms issues). I am strong and never once turned to food it doesnt fix anything anyway. And finally taking care of myself shows my love for others. When we let ourselves go those around us hurt as much as we do maybe even more. My mom will ultimately die from obesity related complications. Let's never make our families experience that with us ok?

Finally, stall broke and I dropped 5 lbs while down there and was 153 this morning!!

What wonderful life lessons you have learned in the past two weeks! I am glad you are home and that your Mom's condition has stabilized so that she can be home. Could it be that some of the emotional baggage was lost and that is what broke the stall? I have been thinking about you and sending my prayers. Here is to living a long healthy life at a healthy weight!!

Thank you Carol for the prayers, they mean a lot! Honestly, the last two - three weeks have probably been the hardest of my life but I love that I am getting through it without turning to bad habits.

I spent 1.5 hours in the gym today which felt great and caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror (I still avoid them) and realized I am normal sized now. I am not the fat girl at the gym that I imagine in my mind. Do our minds ever catch up and realize we aren't fat anymore? I am down to my last 20-30 lbs to lose and am going to push hard to get to goal by my 1 year surgiversary. :)

I had my 8 month check up yesterday and the PA said Congratulations you have reached your year goal in 8 months. They wants us to lose 60-80% of our weight by 12 months, I'm at 66%. I told her I wasn't done yet, I'd really like to lose more. :D I'm happy where I'm at, but if I can' lose another 10-25 lbs I'll be at the goal I set for myself.. and I really want to weigh less than my hubby (even though I can now fit into his jeans)

Do they count the 60 to 80% based on excess weight or based on your starting weight? If I go off of excess weight im at 80% now but if I go off of start weight it is lower than that. Im still thrilled.

Thank you so much ... When I went in for my 6 months they had me get test done to check my gallbladder and they found I had acute gallstones ... Nothing hurt at the time but they said eventually I'd get the pains in my back up my shoulder and press in around my rib cage which is a sign of ur gallbladder they said eventually it get worse and u'd have to get it out ... I wasn't waiting for it to get worse cause the back pain which comes outta nowhere at any given time is painful enough lol I literally was eating aleve like they were candy cause of the back pain. I wasn't waiting for the vomiting and it to burst so I got it taken care of early I was like take it out U don't need it anyway..

I am no longer obese! My goal was to drop my BMI into the overweight category by March 1. I stepped on the scale this morning, and I am there!!! When I began this journey my BMI was over 60. I am now under 30. My weight goal does not take me to a normal BMI, I want to be at a weight I feel I can maintain. I am nearly there. I am flying high this morning!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
