Thank u Mitzie46. I do not have a date yet. Ive just started this journey and getting the cardiologist visit, psych approval, etc done. My insurance covers WLS w/o the extra requirements, so Im claiming a July/August surgery date.

Im in jacksonville Beach. Although the humidity from this tropical storm is the pits! I love the pan handle!!

Hi iamworthit: I lived in Jacksonville, FL for 3 1/2 years. Pretty city with all of those bridges and beaches, but crime ruins it. My favorite beaches are in the Gulf "Emerald" Coast. Was a frequent flyer between JAX and Indpls.

So many of us have the same things we won't miss ..... I've tried to explain some to.my.husband but he just doesn't get it....so here are my top things i wont miss:

5) not being able to wear my seat belt

6)having to drive to fl instead of fly because im afraid they will make me pay for an extra seat

7)wearing clothes because they fit not because i like them

8) my feet and knees hurting all the time

9)tmi ...but the.same sex positions all the time lol

10)telling people i want to stand at bbqs and parties because they only have the seats with arms

11)sweating for no reason but im so big

12) tmi..not being able to see my um lady parts lol

I am new to this site' date=' but love it already. Everyone is so supportive and friendly. I must be struggling worst than i realize as I was at work reading this topic and found myself crying...thinking about alllll the things I cannot do now.

My list is sad and extensive!

I will not miss having to sit in the car (in all types of weather) while my fiancee does all the shopping, because my knees and back hurt to much to walk around the store... Not to mention the excessive sweating

Wont miss the medication I can barely remember to take anyway

Having to use a cane and/or wheelchair

Being afraid to go to friends/family homes because I may not fit in their chairs and/or there may be lots of steps to climb. For that matter being afraid to go anywhere, theatres, restaurants, parks, clubs, church, etc.

Ordering 90% of my clothing from catalogs... Then having to return some because they dont fit or are just plain ugly

Not being able to walk with my co-workers at lunch and having to pretend that I'd rather surf the internet....but since I found this site, I would rather....

Not being able to babysit my granddaughter (by myself) because i cant run back and fourth with her

Not being able to visit my parents, grandmother and brothers graves because of th

e walk

Being winded just from the short walk from my truck to my office or bathroom

Having assistance bathing and applying lotion to my feet

Being to tired and lazy to cook or get a cup of water....so doing without or resorting to that ever present bag of potato chips or candy, thats on the table next to the bed Im no doubt laying in. Whewwww Im making myself sad again.. But looking forward to brighter days full of me being able to do all of the above and feeling wonderful.[/quote']

Don't feel sad! You've made a decision that can change ALL those things on your list. Keep looking forward, because you have so much to LOOK FORWARD to now. Anticipation of the changes ahead can keep you motivated. I spent the whole 3 1/2 months between my decision and my surgery dreaming of the changes ahead of me, instead of dreading my future! :-)

I agree about the city. Unfortunately a lot of our city isn't as safe as it should be. I live at the beach near Ponte Vedra so I am in a pretty good section of town. With that said, when we go to the beach we take time off from work and head to the panhandle. Sad but true! :)

Thanks ajustice and terry1113. Having this forum to vent and read that others are dealing with same issues is wonderful. I appreciate being able to get tips and advice on how to handle things, etc. I am experiencing so many new feelings. Coming to the relaxation that i did this to myself is hard. But as u said, im trying hard to look.toward the future. Imaging me doing things i used to do...cleaning my house to my satisfaction, not paying sooo much for my clothing, being able to participate in the fire drills at work and walk down 10 flights of steps instead of bein on the list of indvs that cant and having to wait in the hall (while the sirens are blasting) until the drill is over. Anyway, God willing by the next fire drill i will b zipping or maybe slowly walking down those steps with everyone else. Woo hoo

I will not miss the bag of clothes I'm getting rid of this week.

I will not miss my boobs resting under my neck when I lay down.

I will not miss the glimpse of that big woman in a window reflection. The one that makes you do a double-take and think with dismay "Oh my goodness, is that REALLY ME?"

I will not miss being too exhausted to do anything after work.

I will not miss the sag on my side of the couch from my big butt sitting there night after night after night. In fact, this time next year I plan to be sitting on a new couch that is not sagging down on one side (and I plan to be sitting on it a lot less!)

I will not miss sugar. It was sweet but evil stuff that never did me any good.

There will be many more things "I will not miss" in the future. :-)

FYI water slides freaking rock when you can just fly down em and not worry about the fire department having to use the jaws off life to pry your fat butt out when it gets wedged in.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
