Well, reggie, bear in mind that if you don't make your goal weight for banding, there's a chance that your surgeon might refuse to do the operation until you have. If that happens, all of your hard work - all the visits to the nutritionist, the psychotherapist, nurses, etc., all the dieting and excercising, all the weighing - all of it will have been wasted, and you'll be right back just about to the beginning of the process. You've worked so hard to get down to that weight, and just because you've reached one particular goal doesn't mean you should stop all the great work you've done! Keep it up! THe less you weigh at surgery, the easier the procedure is for the surgeon, and the smoother things will run during surgery and during your recovery.

You're almost there! Don't give up now!

only 5 days to go ye haw:party:good luck steve in kansas

This is a great thread. It is good to have something for the guys. I met pre-op goal weight 260 lbs in November. My last psyche consult is Feb 22 and I have been promised that if all goes well with the consult I will be scheduled to be banded in March or early April 2008 at the latest. My problem is that I starting to gain some weight back. I have not found a support group just for banders in my area (Sacramento, CA). The groups I have attended were too critical about my choice to do the band rather than the gastric bypass. You guys are the only support and I really need it now that I am close to surgery. Please feel fre to contact me and keep this thread going.:)

Congrats, Mickers! Good to know the surgical site isn't that painful.

I got good news yesterday: the insurance people said they'd cover my procedure, so I'm on for March 6...

I hope you get your approval soon, Mikey.

Great Thread! Very Informative. Thanks to all the Men who contribute info to this thread.

This thread has been a great source of info for Guys like my self in the pre-op stages.

I am scheduled to have the Lap-Band procedure done 2-25-08. I find myself becoming more and more anxious at every completed step to the process. It has been a great deal less nerve racking because of what I have learned thru this thread and those of you who contribute to it.

Please keep the posts coming with any and all comments.

Thanks, Jeff

Loprofyl - getting stopped up is one of my main worries about this damn procedure. Uh, good luck with that!

Jeff - way to go on the weight loss! When I first went for a consultation, I was 450, then insurance rejected me and said I had to lose 50 pounds before I would be considered. A year later, I'm up to 475, almost - but they've changed their criteria, and have given me the go-ahead. If only they'd done it a year ago!

SO I'm dieting seriously now, and working on trying to drop a good amount before my surgery March 6.

I would like to comment about insurance requirements for everyone just starting the process for Lap-Band surgery.

Most Insurance companies will post what is called "Clinical Policy Bulletins (CPB's)" on their web sites. Please take the time to become familiar with the Policy Bulletin for Obesity Surgery. Sometimes the wording is very vague and left up to too much interpretation. Read it, call them and ask any questions you may have. You will have questions! Do not depend on the Surgical group to answer a question you may have on insurance requirements. A close friend of mine had to practically start from the beginning because of some incorrect advice he recieved from the Nurse Coordinator.

I was very fortunate because my Nurse Coordinator was a Lap-Band patient herself. She knew every step of the process and kept me informed at every turn.

Just checkin in to let y'all know I made a VERY large mistake today. Banded on FAT TUESDAY (Feb 5th), and less than 48 hrs later I headed for an auction 2 hrs away. I know, they told me to rest but what do they know! After all, I was just going to an auction . . . . . . . . maybe I should of listened this time.

But that's not the big screw-up! My wife called and asked WHERE THE HELL I WAS, knowing I wanted to go to this auction (2 hrs away) and I wasnt at home. I squimishly said I was in my truck on my way back home. NOT A LIE, I was by this time, just not the whole truth.

Earlier this evening I told her she was right, I shouldnt of gone cuz it did wear me out. BIG MISTAKE! She has called no less than a dozen people telling them that I said she was right about something. Talk about the "big head"!

So you guy's just headed in for surgery, listen to the Doc and take full advantage of the oppertunity to lay low and let your better half wait on ya hand and foot!

I found the surgery wasnt so bad but the gas in my upper chest is kickin some ass, but it'll pass in a couple day's. Had some wonderful nurses that I told I had some Mardi Gra bead's for them but went off and forgot them, I will be taking them back with me next trip! Cant say enough about Dr. Malley and crew at New Hope in KC, they did their best to ease my nerves when I showed up and by the time we left they were all rubbing my belly for good luck!

I did ask the Doc if he had been out cocktailing the night before without me, said he wouldnt go without me! And his hands didnt seem to be shaking so I told him we could proceed.

Good luck to all coming up, it wasnt so bad after all. Steve

Danny it will be great for you. Who are you going to in TJ. I hope you trip is an awesome one. My wife and I went down and they took such good care of me. She (wife) was taken care of as well so I did not worry about anything except walking after the surgery. It helps with the gas so walk right away. Take some gas x (your new best friend) but honestly it is not that bad. You will be fine! good luck

OK, I've been reading about the tummy tucks - i'm so looking forward to getting my band on mar 18th and loosing the weight - but, the thoughts of hanging skin (not to offend anyone) seem almost worst than being fat - I'm 6'4", 330lb, 50 in waist - any suggestions to avoid hanging skin or is it inevitable? Thanks.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
