Went today for my last visit before the big day (next Tuesday). It was "payday" for them, plus I had to give my last quart of blood. They took us thru everything from beginning to end. Spent all the time with us we wanted, no question's left unanswered.

EKG showed I was healthy as a horse but the best part was I went from 320 to 295! So now I'm thinkin maybe I should get that fat check back and try this dieting a lil harder! Naaaaaaah, not a chance in hell, come to far to turn back now.

So, if anybody find's 25 pound's layin around, DONT BOTHER SENDING IT BACK, THERE IS NO REWARD WAITING FOR IT!

Congrats. I think your doing the right thing. Stats show that us obese people who loose weight will regain more than 90% of the time. THe band will be help you keep it off. Its done wonders for me :hurray:

Wow, I guess I didn't realize there were more rooms on the main page until just now. I saw there were other men around, but it's nice to see we have our own room.

I've only read the first page and looks like I'll need alot of time to read the rest.

My name is Jeff. I am a police sergeant in the Twin Cities. I was banded in St. Louis Park, MN on Aug 28, 2007 by Dr. Jones. Insurance covered, after being denied once and put into appeal. So far, I'm down 89 lbs. w/no restrictions. But, I feel I may need one soon. I do real good during the day. But at night, I start to feel the need to snack. May just be old habits as well.:hurray:

I'm in the gym every morning doing my cardio. Days I work, for 50 minutes at least. Days I'm off, for at least 1 hr 40 minutes. 4 nights a week, I lift weights. I know if I wasn't lifting, my actual weight loss would be over 100 lbs, but I also know muscle burns more calories. So, I'll keep.

Thanks for starting this thread. I think it will be a huge help to see more men going through the same things.

Great news and the best to you. I'm on my countdown - March 18th is the big day! Yesterday went for a 3 hr nutrition following lapband procedure. The class made it all seem so real. So, at advice of class, starting the Protein loading process today and on March 3, start the liquid phase of getting ready. Today 330lbs at 6'4" - my first goal - to get to 300lbs within 90 days!

I was 380 at 6'3" at my highest. My surgeon required 10 days of liquid only diet pre op. I lost 23 lbs in those 10 days. If your surgeon doesn't require that, no worries. As long as you are committed to working out and doing cardio, 30 lbs can be lost well w/i 90 days. You may surprise yourself and find you get to your initial goals much quicker. I did.

Congrats on the date. Keep us updated as we get closer to your date.

Hey, guys! Sorry, I'm not a dude, but I need to ask guys a question.... I'm getting banded on 2/13/08, and am really excited about it. I have a 23 year old son that needs to do something, and I don't want to push him, but he's 6'7" and about 450-500 lbs. Granted he's BIG, but he's obviously too big for his size at any rate. He has fatty liver disease, sleep apnea and issues with his lower back and knees. In fact, he may need back surgery if current meds don't do the trick. I have talked to him (so have doctors) about weight loss surgery, but he thinks he can do this himself, even though he doesn't seem to be interested right now. He said he totally understands why I want to do it, but he's only 23, and he's never really tried to diet. So, my question to you is: What was your ah, ha moment that you realized you couldn't do this on your own, and should I keep pushing, or just let nature take it's course? Maybe when he sees that I"m having success he'll be more open to it? Thanks guys! And, by the way - my surgeon told me the ratio of guys to women that have this surgery is something like 1:5..... maybe it's an ego thing?

All I can say is that I had mine at the age of 37. If I could go back in time (and lap band was available then) I would do it in a heartbeat. I missed so much fun and killed my self esteem by being obese all my teenage and adult life. I had a good life, but I wonder how much better is could have been. I wish you the best on yours and the best for your son.

This is a great thread!!! I am in the approval process and both orientations I attended I was the only guy there. Glad to see I can get a man's perspective. I plan on keeping you guys in the loop as I progress.

Thanks!

Is there some kind of medal you get for reading this entire thread, all 82 screens of it? Because, if so, I earned it!

I wanted to introduce myself, and say thanks for all the information, and to just say how great it is that there's this real community of brothers going through the same journey, helping each other along the way. The way is long and hard and scary sometimes, it seems, but knowing that others have walked that path and made it to the end is incredibly inspiring. I'm extremely grateful to you all, and I hope that I can make a real contribution here too, so that a year or two from now some guy starting out on the whole LB trip will feel that I've helped him.

I first joined LBT a bit more than a year ago when I was researching the options. I got very excited, teed everything up, and then, at the end, my insurance was rejected because my BMI exceeded the insurance company's upper limit. I went away, determined to lose the 50 or so pounds I needed to lose to get me into their acceptable BMI range, and over the last year put on another 23 pounds. Desperate again, I came back to the forum, and reading through it discovered that the insurers have changed their policy and removed the upper limit. Long story short, I went back to the doc, and they're resubmitting my paperwork; I have a tentative band date of 3/10/08 at NYU by Dr. George Fielding.

So I'm here, and reading. I have a coupla questions to ask, and I hope to be participating more - I firmly believe that actively participating in the forum is another element that helps you to goal weight - I mean, look at Neal!

Thanks again,

Fenton

I know the feeling. It is difficult to go through all of the info. I have my final psych consult on Feb 22. If all goes well< I will be banded in late March or early April 2008. Once Iachieved my goal weight for the band, I have found it difficult to keep weight. I fear I am gaining again. Any advice

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
