I talked with my doctor and explained to him the problems that I was having and he authorized a change in the settings on the machine. He also downloaded my readings and reviewed them and saw that an adjustment would be good. I go and see him in May and will download again and see what it shows with the dental device. I have not had much problem with the jaw etc. The dentist has me make minor adjustments twice a week, plus I go back once a month for her to review my progress for the next 6 months. I will probbly have a sleep study in August or Sept. That would be one year with the CPAP and the band.

It has been frustrating waiting to get a surgery date. I started the program at 287 pounds and I am now down to 250. My goal weight was 259. I have Kaiser Insurance and they are paying for the procedure. It seems that the doctors are so backed-up, they do not know when I will be scheduled. I can't even get an e-mail response from my e-mails or an estimation when surgery will take place. It has been frustrating and becoming difficult to remain at my weight goal. Any suggestions on what I should do next? Any advice is appreciated:sad:

Reggie, you have two options:

1. Hang in there, wait as long as it takes, try to keep your eating under control and your body active, knowing that a healthier weight means a smoother surgery

2. Fly down to Mexico and get banded there.

I know which I would pick!

It certainly can be frustrating waiting for everyone to get their acts together, but it'll be worth it in the long run. Do you have a phone number? I know you don't want to be obnoxious, but believe me, the squeaky wheel gets the grease... Just keep after the surgeons' coordinator until they assign you an appointment.

Good luck!

Excellent! Fantastic work, man!

I'm going to have to start taking my photo, too. I think it'll be a useful support technique.

Hey Guys, FIrst post here. Got banded on May 22cnt. Just got my third fill yesterday for a total of 5cc's. Is this enough. I thought it should be more. Well in 7 weeks, i have lost 40lbs. Started at 373, and today 333. I cannot wait to be under 330, then 320, ect... Goal weight is 270. My surgery went like a dream. I just felt like i had a really intense workout for a couple of days. Just banded? EAT GAS-X Strips. The shoulder pain was really all there was.

I still feel like i can eat quite a bit, but it is by determination that i don't. Is this normal.

Dr. B. in dallas is awsome.

Good Work Everyone! It has been 6 months and I am down almost 80 lbs it is coming slow now. I have spent all summer coaching baseball and not much time working out but I have really enjoyed my father son time. Anyway just checked in and everyone doing great... Manatee wow good job!

Is anyone else still gagging. I do about everyday... but I am cheating on some rules drinking, not working out, and eating to fast. My goal is to slow down, chew and only one beer!

try vodka if you really need to drink

so i guess the gagging is a bit normal if you bend the rules, but i still feel like i can eat to much. Alot of discipline at this point, and only 2 months in.

Hi guys

I'm in Canada and thinking about getting a band.

I'm 61 years old, 6'3", 295 lbs, BMI about 37.

They have local clinics that do them but its about $16,000.

I'm really reluctant to spend all my savings, but if its going to save my life, I will.

I am an addictive type, having recovered from the typical addictions from the 60's and now battling my current addiction : food.< /p>

The local clinic wants me to have a BMI of at least 35. But, I'm planning on going back to the gym and working out to improve my fitness, so that if I DO go into surgery I'll be better able to recover.

So, my dilemma is, do I work out, possibly lose just enough weight to take my BMI too low to qualify, or do I get the surgery and workout after?

I've heard of surgeries in Thailand, India, Costa Rica and Mexico. I'd read the good reviews here of the Mexican places, what about those in the far east?

I'd be glad to hear from any of you with suggestions and comments.

Thanks

Hey Canada, I am 6'3 and weighed 289 pounds at my heaviest. I was a self pay with zero support from insurance. I chose Lap Band Surgery in Denver Colorado | Lap Band Surgeon in Denver | Gastric Band Surgery Denver | Bariatric Surgery

as my choice for lapband. The total cost was 9,950.00 and that was it. I wasn't mailed bills or overdue notices and I wasn't harassed to pay anything else. I schedule the surgery, had a phone conversation with Dr. Kirshenbaum and then flew to Colorado, handed Natalie my Visa card and said lets knock it out. I have had 3 fills and hit my goal weight In about 5 months. I have had zero complications and have gone from 289 down to 211 today. My lowest has been 198 and I am trying to fine tune where I want to be at. You can search out my name on this web site and see my pics and our stats are about the same. I am 35 years old with a torn ACL and loved the food as well. My advice is to not exercise right now but to go hit the streets. Yes, hit the street and find a softball league you can join for 60+ and older. Go to the bowling alley and get on a weekly league. You need to make sure that you have things lined up to do once you get the band and recover. Take all measurements right now and get body fat measurements. Realize that you will lose inches and not weight and vice versus. Make sure you have your stats down so it is reassuring when your stomach shrinks but not the weight.

If you cant do those activities then find a walking club or hike. How long has anyone ever gone to a Gym? I have a membership at the YMCA and I barely go. You have to find something fun because a treadmill and ipod only work for a few long term.

Hi:

I'm glad to see a section for guys to talk.

I just got banded July 31, so I'm less than a month out.

I've lost about 20 lbs. it's slower lately.

I'm looking forward to Sept. 9, when I get my first fill.

I'm wondering how that will change my eating and feeling.

Any thoughts.

Schuney

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
