The only comlication I've had (I'm only 8 days post op so take this with a grain of salt) is a medication reaction a couple nites ago. Had to go to the ER. Thought I was having a stroke.

While it hurts more than I thought it would, no complications. And I'm very afraid of leaks. Even tho my dr has done over 4,000 bands and has had only 2 leaks, it still scares me.

I had an issue with dehydration. They pumped like 2 bags of fluids into me, ultrasounded my bladder, and it was bone dry! They put some sort of med into my IV and it got better. Also, my oxygen levels were low for some reason but also normalled out. that's about it really.

No complications for me. No nausea, no vomiting, no leaks, no pain. If I didn't have 5 funny little scars on my tummy and an inability to eat very much I might think the whole thing never happened. Down 56 lbs, off most medications and I feel fantastic!

No complications. I felt great by the 3rd day. I was released the next day. Now that I'm healing my incisions are kind of itchy but that's it. I'm 10 days post-op. Compared to my c-section this was a breeze :)

My only complication is that I miss food. Lol the mental battle sucks...but the procedure was a breeze. All annoyances like, gas, inability to get liquids/proteins in were all normal battles of sleepers that quickly reconciled. All and all I'm about 14 days out 22 lbs down and ready for the road ahead. Good luck to you! :)

I was readmitted to hospital 2 days after my initial discharge... Hadn't been able to tolerate liquid meds- caused nausea, vomiting and dry-heaving. On top of all this, I had the worst diarrhea 5 days post-op through day 8... My surgeon thinks it might be a new lactose allergy, so when I'm feeling better i'll test milk out again and see how well I tolerate it.

With the meds (Zantac, roxicet), I found that each time after I took them, I would instantly start to dry heave (surprisingly the med actually stayed down each time... Don't know how!), I think it had something to do with the smell/taste... I've always been a gaggy person if I smell or taste something gross, but in this situation I stayed nauseous all day long, unable to get in my liquids so ended up readmitted for dehydration and to sort-out my meds plan.

Haven't been able to take anything for pain now except childrens tylenol, and I'm on Prevacid solutab now instead of Zantac- something about chewables go down fine. I also have a PRN order for compazine (anti-nausea med) that is a suppository... A little gross but when you feel like crap and cannot keep anything down it definitely works fast and does the trick (plus I'm a nurse, so it doesn't gross me out too bad).

I'm home now, and feeling MUCH better-- able to meet fluids and Protein goals each day, but still cannot do liquid meds (I tried again, and failed again). That being said, I still have some occasional pain but I'm just grinning and bearing it...

Another complication, though I bet it's fairly common, is that I became really itchy around my incisions which were all covered with steri-strips. I also developed a warm red rash around them too- kinda bumpy, almost looks like poison ivy. It had been 9 days since surgery, so the clinic nurse had me remove the steri-strips (in case they were causing skin irritation), and apply hydrocortisone cream... While I'm really happy that all the incisions are healing nicely (doesn't look infected, it's definitely an irritation due to the adhesive) nothing has changed so far, so I'm going to call my doctor's office in the morning if it's still not better when I wake up.

With all these issues it's been a rough 10 days, but I have yet to regret a thing! I know this was the right decision for me and for my future, and I am so incredibly grateful for all of the support I've received from the message boards-- you all have been so great!

The only issue I had was they put levoquin in my IV and i was allergic. So, then they started chasing it with benadryl. Other than a little gas pain, I really haven't had any complication. But, I'm only on day 4.

I was sleeved 10/21. I had some minor complications, but nothing really dramatic. My surgery got bumped into later in the day, ended up being done at 2pm instead of 10am. So that evening was shot. I did have trouble waking up fully from it. They sort of held back pain meds due to this so I was super hurting by the time it was worked out. I also had terrible nausea. I actually did throw up a bunch of blood (sorry-TMI) before they could get me setteled. I think I got stronger anti nausea stuff after that. I had one incision that was oozing LOTS of stuff. I had a drain on left side, this was the right. The surgical resident who was in during the surgery said my subcuteneous tissue was "mush" due to being a blood thinner user. They really didn't have anything to stitch together there, so it was sort of open. At the end of day two they came in, cleaned it well and then applied a LOT of pressure. It hurt, but ended up working. Then the put derma bond over it to glue it shut. Having the drain pulled did not feel good, but help ease the left side pain a bit when gone. So far at home I have had trouble with Fluid intake, but getting better. I have to give myself Lovenox injections thru tomorrow and can't wait for those to be done. I didn't get one in deep enough and now have a sore spot on my already mangled tummy from it. And I have been having stomach spasms. Nothing terrible, just a very weird feeling. Think it is just trying to restart and will take some time to smooth out..That is all for me. Nothing earth shattering by any means, but I will be happy when I am at the end of the surgical healing process!

Sleeved on 10/22. Failed first leak test....as in the dye never went into my tummy....just sat on top which was super painful. Rather than get an early start on fluids, I had to take an extra day to let the swelling go down. Finally allowed fluids today. Got 24 oz in for the day :)

I had nausea and diarrhea for 5 weeks. It was difficult to get fluids in. I did manage to squeak in enough to keep myself out of the hospital though :) I also was vomiting badly from pain meds in hospital. Once they got me off those though, no vomiting. Im 6 weeks post op and down 28lbs. since surgery. Im down 40lbs. since I joined the program :) Im starting to feel better finally. Went back to work part time this week, and start full time Monday :)

I am 5 months out. Down 64 lbs. No complications. No problems. But I do throw up alot. It seems like I can only eat fresh foods or lean cusine meals. Or Protein Bars. Other foods are too greasy or fattening and make me get sick. Like fried chk no go. Meatloaf no go. But I do ok. I am happy. I like eating less and losing weight. I went from size 22 to size 14. Size 2xl scrubs to size large. And I am not done yet! 62 lbs to go. I would do it all over again in a sec. I am very happy with my sleeve.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
