The 3 Complaints I Can't Stand.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I am on here frequently.. Reading posts.. And I have to say there are three complaints/attitudes that I can't stand hearing about on here. Sorry for the rant but sometimes you have to tell it straight.

1. The "oh I just got sleeved a few weeks ago and I've stopped loosing weight.. What's wrong with me??!" Well first off obviously you did not read the hundreds of other posts from people complaining about the exact same thing! Stalls are normal and they will pass. If you think the weight is just going to fall off overnight you are sadly mistaken.

2. The "when can I eat pizza/drink pop or other *insert obviously unhealthy meal item here*??" Really you must have missed the part about this being a lifestyle change! If you continue your same eating habits you are going to get your exact same results. Just because you have WLS doesn't mean all those empty calories you choose to consume are just going to disappear. Your setting yourself up for failure.

3. The "I've stopped loosing weight.. Oh by the way I DON'T excercise" ok now this one seriously bugs me. I am pretty sure EVERYONE was given the same information about adopting some form of physical activity after getting sleeved. It's required to help you loose weight, tone that saggy skin and maintain your weightloss when you get to goal.. If your telling yourself "I just don't love exercising" then you are FOOLING YOURSELF. No one loves excercising! It will get easier after a while and more enjoyable sure. "But my bad knee/shoulder" oh boo hoo everyone can do some form of excercise even if its just walking or even chair excersises. If a 30 year old man born with NO ARMS AND NO LEGS can find it in him to play golf, swim, and play soccer then I'm pretty sure you can do some form of excercise! (See attached inspirational video)

So to sum up my rant.. NOTHING WORTH DOING COMES EASY! It takes work and the right attitude to be successful!

Hi, if you could reach over there and hand me that asbestos fireproof suit I'd really appreciate it.

(Might want to grab one for yourself. ;) )

And someone posts a thread just like this every week. If you read here frequently, surely you've seen one or three.

No need to be so negative and passive aggressive. Go to those people and use your tough love.

Were all tired of those threads. I'm tired of these.

I have this at home.

I complain.

My wife complains about my complaining.

I complain about her complaining about my complaining.

On it goes.

I have learned that I'd better stop the train before she gets out the Iron fry pan.

If you have ever skipped flat stones at a tranquil lake you get a perfect picture of our low information populous. Despite the vast pool of knowledge available most people just skim the surface. Hence they touch down only when they have to, refuse to research, ask the same inane questions and vote like morons.

I can look back to my first 20 posts on here and feel silly because I did the same thing.

When you're a newbie, you don't know how to navigate the site. It's especially hard if you're doing most of your surfing on a smartphone.

Maybe Alex's first message should include some instructions on how to better navigate the site, use the search, set up tickers, etc.

I don't always mind people asking the same questions, sometimes there are new answers. Being a newbie is part of the process, but we all have the option to pass over a thread if we don't want to engage. I will post if I feel I can add something useful to the conversation, to pay it forward in return for those who put up with me.

Not everyone sees every question or complaint, so when someone new posts, whether it is to whine or inquire, you never know who will see it that didn't see the last one posted by somebody different. My husband is an IT Director, he says when it is something he doesn't have time for or no interest in, he pushes delete and moves on to the next. LoL

The correct response to a repeat post is to help the new member of the family out. If it's simple, give a correct answer and move on. If it's more complicated, the answer might look something like:

This question comes up quite often. The high level answer is xyz. But if you're looking for more details or a bunch of other opinions, check out this thread from earlier this week: [insert link from thread here]. You can also use the search function and look for [abc] to find other threads about this.

That way, you help train a newbie and still give useful info. Look at you, offering the same support that you want! Feels good, right?

Or if it really irritates you, just drive on by to a post that doesn't bug you, as others have said. Someone else will help out the noob.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
