If you get a chance come over to Tampa and go to Busch Gardens. Get on Shiekra, sit in the front row. You may lose a couple pounds in less than 3 minutes but be sure to bring extra pants. :)

I am so depressed i want to be normal again. I wish i could go back and just get on a diet. I wanted to lose weight the easy way and i didnt care what plp said to me so many times and i didnt listen. They told me i dont need to do it but i did it without thinking im so stupid. I cant even drink Water like i want to im always thirsty and all i want is pepsi and food. I am going trough a lot right now the only thing that is keeping me alive and a lil strong are my two daughters i love them and dont want to leave them. I wish i could go back and not do this surgery god please help me.

I can relate….my doctor's nurse was calling everyday to see how I was doing, due to some problems I was having and I one day just starting crying and telling her how I regretted the surgery and how depressed I was. Fast forward 3 months later and my mind has changed :) It does get better, just hang in there. Your still healing give it time Keep positive!! Good luck and keep us posted!

I had those same feelings. It was hard to eat anything, then I started Prilosec and I was able to tolerate soft foods. That dumping/ rock feeling went away. I eat them real slow or I vomit too. I am 5 weeks and really just know starting to feel decent. I miss foods too, it just pisses you off sometimes. Hang in there..

Talk to your doctor. They can hook you up to an IV and get your fluids caught up. An acid reducer might help you eat some. I can't imagine having the regret, but they can help you feel a little better.

Right now U have a surge of hormones going through ur brain that has created a chemical imbalance. To lessen the depression start walking every day.

I admire that u decided to have the surgery bc u are going to be changing the future path for ur family. As u start eating healthier and exercising. I are role modeling a healthy life style for them. They will reap the benefits of ur decision to take better care of ur self. Congrats and remember it does get better. :)

For many of us, food is a love affair, an addiction, comfort when we're feeling down, a celebration when we're feeling good! Essentially, it's almost like you've lost a loved one by having this surgery and you're grieving. PLUS...you're grieving after having had major surgery, so you have the emotional AND physical changes to deal with.

But as others have said, you no longer have a choice! First priority...DRINK YOUR WATER! If you're dehydrated, everything else will be worse. Take tiny sips all day. If you truly can't do that, then you might need to check with your doctor...dehydration can kill you so if you need IV fluids, you need IV fluids.

Remember, food really isn't as necessary right now...you have plenty of calories in storage. No, it's not ideal to not get your Protein in, but you're still early in recovery...you're not exercising or pushing yourself physically. If you can get Protein IN your Water, that's even better though! So if trying to eat pureed or soft foods is causing irritation so you can't drink...focus on drinking!!

You can, eventually, get back to eating small amounts of the foods you love...and you know what? You might decide when you do that you really didn't love them that much anyway. They were a substitute for living a full, active, healthy life!

Last...let yourself grieve. It's normal, it's natural. You made a decision to lose weight..maybe you weren't expecting such a drastic change, but focus on the "little" things right now and it will get better!

OPs, there's an awful lot of wisdom in these posts and I'd like to second some:

1. Get to a dr and talk about both depression and dehydration

2. Get some action on both - not "if you can't do this we'll do that at some future time". You need help NOW. Say it over and over again to your dr. I'd suggest rehydration and anti-depressants at a minimum, but I'm not a doctor.

3. Have faith in those on this forum who tell you they went through dark Patches and came out the other side. They are not lying to you.

4. Personally, the cute clothes angle doesn't take away dark feelings, but knowing I have an increasing number of weight related health problems and a family history of death around the age of 60 (I'm 52), really does. I want to eat and drink more and more easily too... But I want to live more.

5. Remember, people experience huge losses in their life - stomachs to cancer, limbs and sight to accidents, fertility, children, partners - and 99.99% of them find a way forward. Even if you never stop regretting this decision, you will too. And I bet you do stop regretting it.

6. You made your decision on reasons that were important to you. No one else's reasons or decisions matter, and even if those reasons don't seem as valid now it's no one's business but yours. Don't let others beat you up.

Is not easy when i shower i feel very dizzy but im going to try harder for my two beautiful daughters that are 3 and 2 yrs old. I really appreciate all of you taking your time to reply to me. Trust me, I know all too well about those dark feelings. I was there myself for way too much of my life. Unfortunately, having a "pity party" doesn't dispel them either. It just intensifies them. When someone is super depressed, sometimes it takes something simple to get them started because more complicated things, are just too hard. We all know we need to eat right, and drink our Water and talk to a health care professional when things seem to be getting worse. Those things are a given. What I hear when I read some of these threads is people asking for immediate help, something they can do right now. My suggestions of looking at clothes, dreaming about future activities, making plans, are just simple examples of things that can boost your moral right now and restore hope. Hope that our life is going to get better because once you lose hope, its game over. Those things may not work for some people, but they did work for me and maybe they will work for Fran or others who are out there struggling. You just need to keep trying different things until you find out what works for you. I have had great success with my WLS in spite of the complications, so I must be doing something right!

you will be ok i promise. i felt the same way soon after my surgery but eventually it went away. after 1 month you will be able to eat soft food in after 3 months you can eat regular food you just wont be able to eat much. in when you look back at your life you will wonder why people eat so much food any way its not healthy. the gastric sleeve is good because you can eat your regular foods you just cant eat much. in you will get use to it. just think if you did the bypass, it the worse thing to do. you will be happy you did this in the long run. I'm sorry you're feeling depressed right now. Full liquids are hard. I have two suggestions. 1- go to a counselor. You've changed the body, now you need help to change your mind about food. Most people on here have food addictions. A counselor can help you with what you're going through. 2- get more protein! Start drinking Protein shakes. Put Protein powder in your Soups that you're eating. If you are getting seriously under your Protein amounts, that can really affect mood swings for me. You're also probably consuming too much sugar from the straight apple juice. Try iced tea or crystal light or vegetable/fruit juices, etc. Get some Vitamins in there!

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

      Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs. 
      I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm. 
      I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order. 
      My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

      Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
      Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
      A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.

      I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
      Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
