January Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

Hello all January bandsters. This is my first post in this thread. I was just reading through some of the recent posts and decided I wanted to give an update. I have lost about 80 pounds since starting to lose weight prior to being banded. It has been a slow process but I continue to move downward. I tend to lose 6-8 pounds a month and I do walk at the gym 3 times a week. My band is very finicky. One day I can eat something and be fine, the next day I can eat the same thing and get sick. I have yet to truly eat pizza since being banded. I just scrape off the top and eat that!! People might think I am crazy but it works for me. I continue to struggle with head hunger at times and eating more than I should at one sitting. I have about 9CC in a 10CC band. I am very grateful for my band. I have gone from a size 30/32 to a size 22. I have more energy that ever before. I still have a long way to go but I just keep pressing on, one day at a time. It is nice to have support from other bandsters who are in a similar place.

Shawn, thanks for the reminder about Protein. That may be what is behind my hunger problem. I find it so easy to eat a salad and then feel full, that I probably don't get enough Protein in each day.

I haven't been able to walk this week because of a bum knee. I have no idea what I did to injure it, but it has hurt for about the past week. since Monday I noticed some swelling at night, and then last night it was huge! I went to my doctor today and he said I have a slight tear in a ligament. no walking for a few weeks, and I have to come back to see him in 3 weeks.

I've never had a knee injury before and can't imagine how I did this.

Anyway, I am going to miss my morning walks.

I hope I can manage to maintain my weight without gaining.

Terry

Hi all,

Back from my dog and pony show in Idaho. I haven't been on the scale yet this morning and I know I'm avoiding it. It has been inching upward instead of downward so this is how I tend to handle it. Ignore it and it will go away...actually, ignore it and it will go up should be my addage.

I'm working on my self-talk to get back on track. I know I'm not too far off with my eating but apparently what i"m doing isn't quite enough. I have been, if you'll recall, super stressed and I wonder how much havok anxiety plays on weight loss. I do, however feel really good and I feel good in my clothes. I was able to step up in the saddle numerous times (a first) without the aid of a rock or whatever. I ride better and we put on some serious miles. I was glorious country!!

So, I need to get with my exercise, which I'll start tomorrow, I have to empty out the camper and do some work for work. Dancing with the Stars starts tonight and I have to work late, so I record it and work out to that...I'm soo excited.

I did clean up my exercise room on Thursday morning and tested the elipitical...hey, still works!! We had some Water problem in the basement because of the condensation from the AC...and I was walking outside, so I haven't ventured into the dungeon, other than to pull up rugs.

Catherine-Mo..welcome to our group and congrats with your weightloss. I think that is wonderful!

Checking in!

Things are going pretty well here. I got a teensy weensy unfill, and that made a huge difference. I still fill up very fast, but it goes down ok in the first place. No barfing, sliming, anything! And the best part is the scale is continuing down! Today I weighed in at 237.6, which means I only have to lose 0.6 this week to meet my mini goal (I've been setting 5lb mini goals for myself). I'd like to lose another 15 by the end of the year.

The wierd thing is, my body is changing shape big time even though I've only lost a few more pounds. DH was telling me my shorts were falling off my a$$, so I checked and sure enough I can pull them right off without unbuttoning and unzipping. Time for new pants! I think I'm going to go to Kohl's today and see if I can score a pair of jeans and khaki's on the cheap to tide me over.

Another thing I've noticed is that when I am feeling frumpy, it's usually because my clothes have gotten too big! It used to be the opposite :) Wearing bigger clothes used to make me feel more comfortable because I could hide beneath them. Now that I have a little more confidence, I think my subconscious is telling me I don't need to do that anymore. I went through my clothes this past weekend and "rediscovered" some shirts and jeans I thought were still too small. Like everyone says, don't wait too long or you might miss out on wearing an item completely!

Hope everyone has a great Monday!

Maria

Hmmm, surprise, the scale went down. I"m at my lowest...again, so far. I'm down 47.

So, I was spending time thinking....how much saline do you think the tube going to the band holds? Say you have a 10cc VG band, and you have 7 cc's in...do you think the tube holds a couple of cc's so that you can actually hold more than the 10 cc's?

Maria, great news on the weight loss and congrats on meeting your mini goal. I had hoped to hit the 50 pound loss mark on my anniversary (9/4) but didn't make it. So, I promptly was punishing/rewarding myself with food. I mistakenly think that because I'm eating less, it is just going to come off...even if I eat the wrong things.

I got my video set up to tape my show so I'll hit the elipital tomorrow....so far so good!

Maria, congrats on finding your clothes hanging off of you. I can relate to your comments about wanting bigger clothes to hide behind before surgery. Now I feel that the bigger clothes don't show my weight loss as well as clothes that really fit.

Sula, is their any exercise involved in riding? I would think there would be some since you are physically involved and are not sitting at TV as couch potato. Speaking of TV, I didn't realize that Dancing started tonight, and I missed it. Drats! I've have to catch up tomorrow night.

Where are the rest of our January bandsters? I would be interested to find out how much/many fills we have had. Does anyone feel like they are at their sweet spot?

I found out last Friday that I have a small tear in knee ligament and am not able to walk for about 4 weeks. I really know that exercise is the key at this point for me, and am torn between wanting an excuse not to exercise, and really wanting to continue to exercise. I bet that doesn't make a lick of sense.

Terry-- no idea how you bunged up your knee? That is so strange?

Gang, I totally agree with the frumpy thing with baggy clothes...but I have a problem (mental I think!) I can't get myself to buy much in the way of new clothes. I can't figure out why I'm not champing at the bit and usually at this time of year I'm doing some fall shopping for some new outfits. I was wondering if I'm, deep down inside, thinking it won't last, or being frugal, or resistant because I'm only down one size? I just can't figure it out. I think, since I've been banded, I've only bought one pair of capris and two pair of pants. I do have pants that I couldn't even keep up on my hips..they are so baggy, and I don't wear them, but I can't decide if I should have them taken in or pass them on.

I'm missing Tonya/Sunshine. I do hope that you are healing from your surgery and will be able to join us soon!!

I did get up and worked out this morning to Dancing!! That elipical is killer!

Hi bandsters,

Haven't posted lately but read your posts almost daily. I got a fill and was just too restricted. My stomach just got too swollen and after 2 weeks I had to be unfilled by .5 ccs. What a bummer!! I now have to wait 1 month to some of it put back in... I originally was at 3 cc and had .3 put in so doing the math I now only have 2.8. This is definitely not good. I can eat anything. I'm totally miserable knowing I am gaining. I know all about self-control however I have none.

On the bright side I met up with a friend I knew from my gym and we are now meeting every morning Monday thru Friday at 7am to get our exercise in, so hopefully that will help.

Hope you are all well, thanks for being there for me,

Susie

Geez, the week is almost done!! How are you all doing this week? What have been your successess? Challenges?

I've been eating good and bad. I've been more physically active and I do feel better because of it. I'm looking forward to this weekend as my DH and I will be doing a patio in expectation of getting a hot tub!! Wooo Hooo!! I think that having one might help me with eating so late. I know that probably sounds weird...but instead of a late dinner, how about a late soak and to bed!! I could possibly do a Protein drink on my way home from work most nights... I dunno...just a thought.

Hi all!

My week is going pretty good. I'm still not exercising as much as I'd like, but there only one way to solve that LOL. Otherwise, I figured I'm losing about 1lb per week this past month, so I'm THRILLED with that. I'm hoping to keep that up for awhile, which would get me to the 50lb mark by my one year anniversary.

I have a slow day at work today -- very uncommon. I hardly know what to do with myself!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
