Any Hispanic Sleevers here? Help me

Recommended Posts

Good Morning Sleevers,

I am 23 years old and DOMINICAN! I was wondering how all my hispanics have gotten through the obstacles or resisting our carb loaded, sometimes greasy but amazing delectable cuisine? I love myself a nice plate of rice and Beans with some type of Protein on the side and nice little salad.

I just want to know how you guys have gotten through it without the rice and Beans i guess LOL

I actually still eat a lot of Beans they have Protein and are a good source of Fiber. They are one of the first foods I ate post op. rice has become a treat for me. If I'm in the mood for some ethnic food, I will usually make a guisado in the crockpot. For a snack I will make a quesodilla, I only will eat corn tortillas, but this is only occasional. I live pozole and it seems to sit pretty well with me.

I really don't have any restrictions. when I go out to eat I will order tacos and eat the inside of it, caldo de Camaron, or fajitas. I tend to stay away or really limit the greasy foods. If you think about it Hispanic foods to tend to have a lot of Protein and veggies, and that is the stuff you want to stick with.

This is with all foods in general, you really have to learn how to modify your food selections. If you want a burger try a turkey burger with 1 bun, or baked chicken wings instead of fries ones. When I order an omelet I usually get egg whites only. It really is the little things like that, they make all the difference. Best of luck to you.

Well, i'm not hispanic but my in-laws are Nicaraguan and I could swear I was Hispanic in another life. I absolutely love lechon asado and arroz con gandules, and my husbands sister owns a cuban restaurant so those cuban sandwiches have been freeflowing.......when we go to his moms house its always pasteles and café being put in front of me.....so, i have changed how i prepare these. I use brown rice and always cook the Beans seperately, i season the meats the same way and just bake then instead. Not quite the same, but it works, i have seriously cut back on the cuban sandwiches though.....

I love lengua, so I cook it in the slow cooker. I add a little bit of chile and it goes down fine. Sometimes I will add some Beans "de la olla" but then I can only eat very little. I also do a lot of shrimp and crab meat with salsa, lemon, and avacado. Eating out is one soft chicken taco with sour cream (so it's not so dry), and I never eat the tortilla. I get full with the chicken and fixings.

I'm early out (7 weeks) so I could not tolerate posole or a tamal, but I tried at Christmas and New Year's. I take 2 shakes everyday and an egg, to make sure I get in my Protein, and the other things are extra protein!

I'm Mexican American first generation so I know what you mean. I'm not too worried about the food bc I figure I can have a bite or two of something when I'm recovered. I'm worried about my chile. I love salsa and jalapeños. I like the spicy food. I'm the type that has a jalapeño on the side to bite into while eating their meal. I guess I'm a little worried about the rice too. A few people have posted that it has no real nutritional value and that it expands in your stomach but I can't imagine not ever eating my Mom's arroz con pollo again.

Im mexican living with an Irish husband so i have to tone things down for him, so im kind of used to the toning of my foods. I haven had the surgery just yet but i am diabetic and i eat black Beans with shredded chicken with a tiny bit of salt or taco seasoning and eat it with Quinoa, or egg whites with black beans with a little sason and you got double Protein winner.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
