Great job Frank! I've not had any complications and my recovery was unevetful. I want to lose 110 pounds. Was sleeved on Nov 5 and am down 30 pounds. Oh....I had my lap and taken out when I was sleeved. I feel great. My weight loss is a little slower than I would like but I am so happy. Like you, I am not hungry and forget to eat. I'm still drinking shakes and eating one or two yogurts a day. I just don't feel like eating. Anyway, glad to hear of your success. I love reading the good, the bad and the ugly here. Everyone has a story to tell! Happy New Year!

Thanks guys! You're right O.T.R., I think that the people that have had good experiences just don't say enough. They are happy, so there is no reason to ask a bunch of questions on the internet. The problem is that there are a few people here that had VERY VERY bad experiences that respond to every thread and scare the heck out of everybody. Question: My toe hurts, what could it be? Answer: YOU HAVE A LEAK!!!! Run to the E.R. right now in the middle of the night! HURRY!

Holy cow, I swear to God, I had a thermometer in my hand for a week after my surgery checking my temp every hour to see if i had a fever. My wife got so mad at me that she told me to NEVER visit this site again! I talked her down, and I just checked back today. I told her that there was some useful info here.

Also if you've had a good experience, please add yourself to that thread. Never hurts to keep it growing.

I agree the recovery has been pretty easy. I never took a pain pill after leaving the hospital I didn't need them. The gas they fill you up with was the worst part. 2 weeks out started purees still on them for another week. No nausea or vomiting here either. I only had to do one week of liquid pre-op started at 275 I'm currently 250. Pretty happy with the weight loss so far.

Frank, I believe that toe pain is only a symptom if it's on the right side :P

And maybe you should chat with Liz, who I also worried...she did have a leak and reacted quickly because I'm such a horror. She's just now home from hospital and doing better thank god. I'm sorry you were so worried...and yet not at all sorry that Liz was given she got help quickly.

For the record, I've told people many times that their symptoms are NOT likely signs of a leak.

I'm very glad that your recovery has been exemplary and you haven't had any issues at all. I wish 100% of these surgeries was like that. I honestly do.

I'm glad someone finally said what I've been thinking. I have learned to avoid any posts by the negative certain people. I agree, there isn't enough inspiration on these forums, I understand the risks and have enough fear and worry on my own without the constant postings to remind me. Thanks for posting your story its encouraging to read stories like yours!

OMG I can't thank you enough! I cancelled my surgery after joining this site. Most posts are negative and ready to call in the lawyers. After your post I will reconsider.

:( that makes me sad!

There are a lot of here that are doing great.

I had my sleeve on 11-13-12 and besides fighting occasional head hunger. It been a great experience!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
