Sleeved on December 5th

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on Monday Dec 3rd!! So nice to see so many that had it this week as well. Where do you get sublingual Vitamins? ? So far all I've been taking are my gummi vites since I'm scared of throwing up pills. But all in all the only complaint I have is the excruciating pain I still have on my right main incision. Goodness it hurts!!!! So yeah...where do you get those vitamins??

I had surgery on 12/5 and am pretty amazed at how well I feel. I am on Clear Liquids till the 12th and hope to start on my creamy liquids then.

I am basically living on sonic ice chips' date=' Water and a little chicken broth. The weird thing is I don't feel hungry but now notice all the food commercials.

I know we are all different as are our surgeons. I see in forums where their doctors are wanting them to get in 50 grams of Protein. My question is how do I do this on a clear liquid diet??[/quote']

Sounds like we are in the same boat. I had mine on the 5th and on clear liquids, eating sonic ice chips and some broth. My surgeon said not to worry about Protein yet. Just stay hydrated. So I've been sip, sip, sipping.

I have also noticed the food commercials. Way too many of them. Luckily I have zero hunger. Good luck on your journey! And can't wait to see how well you are doing.

Hey' date=' did you ask your surgeon about Advil?? Mine said absolutely no ibuprofen as it is too hard on the stomach and can cause ulcers.[/quote']

No I did ask specifically she put it on my discharge papers. We've spoke over the phone about advil and tylenol she had no objections to either.

I am very confident in my surgeon. She is known as a bariatric guru and travels around the world to train others. She does things a little different and I feel comfortable with this. :)

Hello,

So funny that we are in opposite shoes. I am taking pills Prilosec, Advil and Tylenol pills. But don't want to take my gummies for fear of something wrong happening. But your taking the chews no problem?

Hello everyone,

I've been on Protein shakes 2 days now, three shakes a day, along with other fluids, broth, sugarfree Jello or sugarfree pudding & popsicles. I take a Bariatric Multivitamin(chewable) or Gummy Multivitamin, Calcium(chewable) & B12 sublingual daily. Actually, all the chewable Vitamins are not bad the taste is ok.

I had surgery December 4th and feeling pretty good other than the expected tenderness from the incisions. I came home with Phenergan which made me sick (go figure) and hydrocodine which I haven't taken since the 5th. I took a small dose of Children's Tylenol at night on the 5th and 6th and nothing since then. I do a chewable Vitamin and PPI. Getting fluids and working on Protein. I'm really surprised that I have no hunger and minimal pain (this was my first surgery so really wasn't sure what to expect). I'm just ready to be able to drink normally without fear of causing a leak!

Savannah I have the exact same thing. My surgery was on Dec 6th. I have the worst air and gas. The Protein Shakes may have been a little premature because they gave me bad pains too followed by a burp. I may wait another day or so for that again! I still have some pretty bad pain from where the drain was and in the stomach area but its getting better. I am mostly concerneda about getting my liquids in so i dont get dehydrated thats my biggest goal right now but this gas in my stomach is crazy!! Ill be glad when its gone :)

I went through the gas issue, it will pass don't worry. What helped me, I've been walking since day 1. Now that I'm home I walk twice a day and the gas MOVED! For me, that was the worse feeling I've experienced. Each time it started moving, I felt like a new woman...LOL The Protein Shakes may be to early to try, give yourself a couple more days & retry. I received a post from another person on here and she told me she skipped liquid & went right into full liquid, including cream of wheat. Just be patient, you had surgery just 3 days ago, things are going to be fine.

hi all, i was sleeved dec 5th good to hear from folks the same week. I am doing really well, of course I feel bloated and sore but no real pain. I am on full liquids and for my doc that includes cream Soups and sugar free pudding as well as Protein Drinks. The only really thing that I feel a bit concerned about is no matter how slow I sip I burp..guess maybe its getting rid of all the gas still inside. feels great to be home and this evening for the first time I actually felt a tad hungry.

I was sleeved Dec 6. I was fortunate to not have the gas pains, but once my intestines woke up they've been having a little party! I am having a hard time getting my Isopure down, but I'm going to try Proteins that can be warm. My sleeve seems to like them better.

Hey guys! I also had my sleeve on Dec 5th. However, I am a miserable human being. :-( None of the pain pills work, I am still in a ton of pain, can't sleep on my side yet, still not eating/ drinking very much (on full liquids), and I'm just not sure if anyone else is having a hard time healing as well. I ended up staying two nights in the hospital & didn't really think I was ready to leave when I did. I am starting to think its my weight that's causing me to heal a lot slower. My weight before they put me to sleep was 351 lbs. if anyone has any encouragement by all means, please respond.

I am in my recliner now bcuz my bed was not working for me tonight. I am having a few concerns abt one of my incisions, so I will be on the phone with the dr bright and early. Just make sure you are taking it easy. I am still on liquids too. That has been pretty tough while sitting back and watching my family eat, but it will all pay off In the end. Where are u Sarah??

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
