Chlorophyll and peppermint oil can help with body odors.

What brand and method do you use? I searched and found several brands that are liquid or capsule.

Thanks.

I could barely tolerate refried Beans and was able to eat maybe two bites of flaky soft fish so at that point it was a futile effort nutrition wise.

Still, since flaky soft fish is one the menu then I would say yes to the crab. It just depends on what you can tolerate.

I use liquid drops of chlorophyll through Vitamin Shoppe (i drink it in my water), peppermint oil soft gels from local health food store and HSN. I would also try allstarhealth.com.

I'm not post-op yet but I do know that www.vitacost.com is usually really great with their prices. I plan on using them for liquid vitamins, etc.

I was surprised by the "lost waistline" from the belly expansion immediately post surgery, but found for me it was temporary. The surgeon had told me I might have pain from the abdominal expansion gas in shoulder or elsewhere which I didn't but didn't realize the sense of lost waistline. It probably startled me since no matter what weight I was, I always had a waistline. Probably connected to my self esteem.

I was surprised that things I thought I would like to eat post-surgery like a certain bariatric snack bar ended up not tasting so great (too sweet and dense), and other things I disliked pre-surgery like the bars with wafers in them, actually tasted great post-surgery.

I wasn't told that I would burp a lot after eating and I do. Seems like others on this board do as well.

I was told about the 64 oz of liquid at least daily, and found it is tough to get it all in.

I didn't expect my bellybutton incision to be a chronic pain for awhile but it also was temporary.

I found I loved being able to take a shower. Washing my hair and self was excellent post-surgery, very therapeutic. I bought myself a special bar of soap infused with my favorite perfume for the hospital.

When I started soft food stage, I started with a part of a crab cake warmed up. It was delicious and I tolerated it well. I love crab, too, and had been craving it.

So interesting that people's taste buds change after surgery! I must be an anomaly because my taste buds are exactly the same as before surgery!! The only thing really weird I've had since surgery is the hiccups when I'm full but a lot of other people seem to also so that's cool. I haven't ever burped from being full since being sleeved. I HAVE had the slimies a few times and they sucked. That will teach you not to take that one extra bite for sure. My BM's are not regular so I have to take Miralax to help things along haha. I also have some really bad acid reflux since surgery that I never experienced before. That's my only negative side effect. If I take Prilosec once a day, i don't experience it all. So weird that we are all so different but that's just the way people are--all different and unique!

Oh, PS, I forgot to mention coffee. I was an avid drinker prior to surgery. When I got constipated, my dietician said to add coffee (I do one cup to 20oz) a day if I tolerate it as it could help reduce my Constipation. I tolerate it unless I add too much cream/half&half, and haven't produced excess acid so am going for it. Seems to help the constipation, too. Glad as liquid colace is gaggy sweet!

How have you folks done with coffee? I LOVE coffee and wonder how long after my surgery I'll be able to tolerate it.

I started drinking coffee in moderation about 2 months after surgery. I know they say no caffeine but I really felt like I needed some. I've been drinking it ever since just fine. A lot of people do. I still, however, will not drink anything carbonated and probably never will.

That your taste buds change!

I was never told that after the op everythingggggggggggg will taste extra extra extra sweet!

True... can't stand cakes, donuts, chocolate.... YUCK. And that used to be my weakness. There's a weird sort of disconnect - because my brain still says "hey, that looks yummy - I want to try it!" and then I have it and I think "gross, okay, now I have to throw it out". And I keep doing that because I can't believe I don't like sweets anymore.

I wish I had known early post op how hard dealing with the loss of my food would be. although im fine now, it was hard the first couple of weeks. I even regretted the surgery at first. But now, 98 lbs lighter and 5 months later, it was all worth it.

Since I was just sleeved on Monday, my thing is related to immediately post-op. I wish my surgeon had told me that he was going to use the On-Q pain medicine delivery system and that I would have to remove it myself. I got it done today, but it was extremely freaky watching this catheter come out of my body!

I have it too and I can't wait to take it out. Fortunately, they told me about it, but who remembers this stuff!? It looks like a lot of drains. Did it hurt coming out? Yuck!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
