Thanks Misty - this was within the same clinic so you would think that they would be on the same page...anyway I will look for the forum you mention - I like this thread and the people here so much that I don't want to leave so will be here too!

If mine was just low Iron it wouldn't be as much of an issue but combined with the anaemia from low haemoglobin is the concern. May be nothing but with my history of coeliac disease it's worth following up with specialist. I can't do anything for a few weeks anyway other than make an appointment for when I return to Brisbane.

Hi guys- end of week 2 of my challenge.

Exercise wise I shook things up - added different exercises to my old routine so although I am not working out longer it seems harder so I am hoping to see it on the scales. Or off the scales rather...

I realised that I am quite excited by the prospect of losing these last 15kg. It's a lot but a reasonable amount to go rather than the 100 kg I had to lose which felt impossible.

It's my birthday today and I suppose it's been a time of reflection for me. It's been a huge year and I have really got a lot to be thankful for. Things are so different now and I can't wait for the coming year. It's odd though - I am almost more excited about my sleeve-versary next month than my actual birthday lol.

Hope you're all well and your own personal challenges are on track!!

Little motivation for exercise on the cold Monday morning: nobody ever compliments you for sleeping in :) (I saw this on Facebook and quite liked it :)

Cheers Liss

On a much sadder note, on the Gastric Sleevers Australia FB page we have been told about a fellow Sleeve Sister who passed away today from complications with her operation. There are no details of name or circumstances surrounding this tragic news.

I hope that we can all send our thoughts and love to her family and friends during this very difficult time.

We all know that this surgery is very risky, however, it is rare for things to turn out so tragically. I'm sure this lady would want each of us to continue to do our best to make our 'Sleeves' a success, just as she hoped to do before her surgery.

Sending LOVE to her family and friends during this very difficult time.

May she Rest in Peace.

Michele

That's terrible news. It is good to keep in mind that every surgery has potential complications including death. But obesity causes death too.

Dreadful news.I am thinking of her, those she loved and the lost new life she wanted with deep sorrow. Counting my own blessings with gratitude.

I agree this is very sad news and makes us even more thankful for our good health and blessings. Happy Birthday Melissa, enjoy what's left of it and also happy sleeversity too. Mine is coming up on 14 August and I am also excited. Cheers Kelli

Happy birthday, Melissa!

I'm off again tomorrow and it will actually be a lazy day. Today I was out and about half the day. Dietitian this morning. She's happy with my food but gave me some suggestions for helping with my gastro issues. She wants me to see my GP to make sure I still don't have a bug from India. I guess I will get to that by the end of the week.

Weigh in tomorrow. It's hard to believe it will be 3 months next week.

Hi guys. Still stalled with my weight- worse than that actually- the scales said I had out on a kg but I re-weighed the next day and it had gone and I was back to my stall weight.

So guess what my response to this was on Sunday night???? To overeat :(

You'd think I had learned nothing this past year! So I had an attack of the guilts afterwards *cuethepityparty*

I know what I should be doing- staying the course, shaking up what I am eating etc but I am so freaking tired at the moment!! I am finding it hard to eat and to care about eating well when I do eat.

It's pretty stupid and I have been so lucky up until this point!! I just have to suck it up and hold the course... But man, this last 15 kg is a killer!!!

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
