Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Had my 12 month follow up appt with surgeon today. He is very happy with my progress and I am only 4kg off the goal he set for me. I have a long standing and ongoing issue with low Iron levels but in the last year I have also become anaemic' date=' although he doesn't think it is related to the sleeve. He is referring me back to my gastroenterologist to have a capsule biopsy done of my small bowel to check I don't have a form of lymphoma related to my Coeliac Disease. Small chance, but it's best to rule it out. Apart from that I feel great!!! Hope everyone has a great weekend.[/quote']

Hope everything goes well for u kelli. Will b keeping all fingers and toes crossed for u!

I am on holidays! Flying to Sydney for a few days then to Kyneton in the Macedon Ranges, then Melbourne. Away for 10 days all up and really looking forward to the break. I will need to be vigilant about milky coffees and treats when out and about and will continue tracking with my diary app. Can't wait to see my niece who turned 12 months old recently and has just started to walk.

Sounds amazing! I'm on holiday too (Monday and Tuesday) but not going anywhere. I'm sure you will get lots of walking-around exercise if nothing else.

I've noticed that we haven't heard from Dean or Aussiegirl in some time, as well as Bec and some others of the regulars. I hope everyone is ok!

Hey guys, i've been reading all the posts but just haven't posted myself lol. Well I'm coming up to 9 weeks post op and am doing great! In total I'm down 18kgs from pre op. I'm so happy with that. And am now in a size 20 from a 24. I weigh every Monday and tomorrow I do my measurements for the month. The past 2 weeks I've been sick with throwing up with Breakfast and lunch. But I'm now fine. I have been struggling with eating 60gms Protein but am trying harder now. My fitness pal has helped. I'm looking at joining a gym next week too, plus I'm trying to find a job. But other than that I'm doing really well!

You are doing so great, Bec! Glad to hear from you. Your second picture is not showing up for me though.

I have an NSV. I walk to mass on Sundays. I used to leave at 8:15 and get there by 9:05 or so for 9:15 mass. Now I leave at 8:20 and get there by 9! I will have to start leaving 10 minutes later, I think!

3 week stall just broke and I've dropped another 3kg. Wahoo! I don't mind a stall if I lose a kg for each week stalled!

That's awesome!

Hi All - I have been reading and not posting too. I guess it is because I am at the stage of trying to maintain and I need some more company on this bench!

As I have confessed before, I have developed a terrible sweet tooth and also have never embraced exercise - I have never counted calories and apart from the early weeks, have not been vigilant with my Water consumption - so you could say I have not stuck to the rules! In spite of all this I have reached goal and I am managing to stay around 60kg (BMI around 21) - my challenges are that I can lose weight very easily if I cut out the crapy foods so I was quite concerned that I was developing some bad habits (or going back to old habits) of eating at night and on top of that eating sweet things to maintain weight..

So my dietician recommend a visit to the psychologist to see what type of 'hunger' I was experiencing at night to try and break the bad habit. Her rational behind that is that you don't want to reestablish the bad habits that cause your weight gain. So I go to the psychologist and she says why are you punishing yourself about these so called 'bad foods' when you are not putting on weight... good point but I am so confused. You kind of get mixed messages from different professions as they are coming at if from different directions ..has anyone else experienced this?

Anyway, my conclusion is back at where I started. Keep doing what I am doing and don't worry about it!

Interesting, Sue! Maybe you can find a psychologist who specializes in bariatric patients. I am sure we have our own issues besides the "normal" ones. It is very good to be proactive. I will be interested to see what you find out. I don't know if you know but there is a forum on VST for veterans in maintenance. I already read it religiously so I can know what to expect later.

hi Kelli - Hope all is well with you and everything checks out ok- I have had low Iron too but haven't yet had my second bloods yet to check where I am at. I have affair idea what is causing mine but I guess if it is ongoing it is much better to get it all checked out.

So proud of myself today. Took my son to a soccer carnival, everyone was eating toasted sangas, hot chips, burgers etc but I sat there munching on my celery and carrot sticks. At the end of the day we went to Maccas - my willpower held strong and I got nothing. I munched on an opti bar on the drive home. I know it may not seem like much but I felt like -I got this!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
