Me either. My surgery is next week and the smallest i remember being as an adult was 200 lbs and i was 18. Smallest size i have bought was a 16...so its kind of scary and also exciting to think that i will be able to shop at normal stores and dress trendy instead of like a fat girl hiding behind her clothes!!! I have always been big but it was until i hit puberty that i got really big. Good luck on your transformation.

Hi there. I think that the best thign to remember is that the sleeve is a tool, a great one but it's only a tool - we are responsible for the outcome. So if you want to lose more and are dedicated to change, then you will achieve it. The way I look at it (and I wanna lose around 200 pounds) is that the sleeve just gives me the chance to make the changes I've tried to make in the past but were impossible to maintain without the tool. Good luck and it's always nice to be the "outlier" when presented with the "statistics" of our weight loss capacity...

You CAN do this!!!! Nothing tastes good enough to have your surgery cancelled!!!! It IS painful and hard to do the pre op liquids, because you still have a full sized stomach. I PROMISE you it will be so much easier once surgery is done. Just push through it. Keep yourself busy. Suck on some sugar free candies. Have sex a lot. Whatever you have to do to not eat. It would be better for you to have an extra protein shake than eat what you're not supposed to eat. If your liver is not out of the way, you run the risk of either a cancelled surgery, or an open incision. You can do this!!!

    Lissa_S reacted to Jenn31MA in Day 1 Liquid Diet -- Surgery 9/5/12
So i start my liquid diet today. My surgeon has me on HMR 800 shakes (comes in vanilla and chocolate) at 5 a day but they want me to have 1 shake at one meal and 2 shakes at the other meals. I made 2 packets of the chocolate this morning in the blender with ice and it comes out super creamy and looks like a milkshake. I was kind of scared of not liking this Protein drink but so far so good the choolate is really good, no weird after taste and its not super sweet. Now i just have to try the vanilla (i brought that for lunch) and they gave me a bunch of recipes to give variety. If the vanilla tastes as good as the chocolate then i dont see why i will have a problem sticking to the two week liquid diet. Wish me luck!
    Starting weight: 263,9
Goal to reach : 255 (surgeon wants me down to that for surgery)

From a psychological perspective, the reason it appears to have an effect on how you view food is because it's essential behavioural therapy. Humans generally don't do things that don't feel good. So if that feel good feeling from overeating or eating highly fatty or sugary foods is taken away (due to the reduction of stomach size and ability to tolerate calorie-laden foods), then the behaviour will extinguish over time. Well that is my hypothesis anyway And I am sure that many of us (well, for me at least) have tried everything in the past but it hasn't worked in the long term. If you feel there is ANY chance you can do this without the surgery I encourage you to follow that up. For me, I don't feel that I can do it without the surgery. I have my first appointments next week and should have surgery in September (it works a bit differently here in Australia for approvals etc) and I can't be more excited. I wish you all the very best of luck and am keeping my fingers crossed for you that you will be able to kick this without needing surgery - but if you do decide to go for surgery and have questions, please don't hesitate to ask!!!
    Cheers, Lila

I went shopping for some jeans because of course I can't really fit into my old ones. THEY ARE TOO BIG!! I went into the regular area where I haven't been in years and found things that fit. I am wearing a 14/16 top which is fine and a size 18 pants. I feel beautiful. Not trying to brag, but I haven't felt this good in a loooooong time. I can feel the goal coming.

Hahahaha - me too although a friend of mine who was sleeved about 18 months ago told me that she had a nasty comment the other day - her beautician (nasty person anyway) told her to eat something "BECAUSE YOU LOOK LIKE A CANCER PATIENT"... gee people are mean! She looks amazing - I told her (1) not to go back and (2) to tell her to suck it So I guess we also have to watch out for people who want to put us down for losing weight as well as mock us for being overweight!

LOL I honestly dream of having that problem I suppose when I read this I remembered what my surgeon said - that basically the sleeve acts to "reset" the body and to get your body used to working on less - less energy (as you're lighter you don't need to produce as much), less weight and less caloric intake. She said to me that at the end of the day, it will be a combination of my body and my lifestyle that determines where I end up. If I want to be thinner and my lifestyle supports going to the gym 12 times a week, then it's awesome. If I decide on a weight I am happy with that I can maintain by working out 5 times x 30 mins a week (as per current health guidelines as the minimum exercise for general good health), then that is awesome too. It will be our CHOICE - pre-sleeve I haven't felt like I've had much choice or control for a while so it will be really nice to exercise that muscle too

Thanks Joe and congratulations on your amazing success! It's inspiring and you're right - if we aren't prepared to do things differently we aren't ready for this! I am going to be "sleeved" in September and I feel I am ready for this change! I have already given up several things that got me here (coke, chocolate) and already feel better for just doing that. So thanks for your advice - it helps me to feel like I am on the right track!

Been there. Had those thoughts. Still do. Was worried about losing my "figure", but 110# gone, and I feel better and look better than ever. 2 years post op, and still 40# to goal. Not sure what "too small" is, but if you focus on the health aspect of it, it will be much easier to push past that fear.
I've blogged my entire journey here - including lots about the feelings you mentioned: vanishingvixen.wordpress.com. You can also
Check out some of my pics in the gallery. Maybe it will put your mind at ease.

    1) There are lots of people out there who need a course in being "tactful"....like the beautician and 2) I think people who were around us as a heavy (obese) person have gotten soooo used to seeing us that way that when we make it (or made it) to a healthy weight they think we are too thin and 3) they could be jealous too!! :-)
