Booda,

Everything you are going through I did as well. Very bloated for 4-5 days but it got easier each day. Take Gas X or Maalox and that will help. I had a hard time getting off the couch and out of bed for about 5 days and then one day the pain/soreness just vanished. Keep moving - it sounds like it does you a world of good. Each day will be a little easier and then you will be on track.

I got banded today. Everything went very well and I am doing great. I had to use the bathroom right away because of all the fluids. Once I did this the pain was really almost gone!!! I started to walk and did not stop moving for the next hour untill I had to do my Fluro test. My doctor and nurse said that I was one of the quickest recoveries that they has seen.

Not all was good......... My doctor said the my liver was also one of the biggest that he has see. I was on liquids for 3 weeks but I did do South Beach at night for one of those weeks. I lost 21lbs during this time and can't imagine how big my liver was before the liquid stage. My bmi is only 36 so he is really shocked with this.

I have not slept much at all. I took two 25min naps and one that lasted an hour. Now it's 1am and I just came back in from a walk. The only trouble I am having is getting up from the sofa and I have not even tried out my bed yet. It sits too high and I don't want to hurt myself trying.

I did gain eight lbs from the surgery. I hope that when I get weigh myself in the morning I will be back down again.

Can someone tell me how long the bloating lasts? Also I have not gone number 2 in four days. I talked to my doctor and he said that was fine. I could take some milk of mag. to move things along if I wanted to.

Well this is my experience of banding day!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone,

I was banded yesterday. I didn't really have any complicaions other than I couldn't wake up from the anesthesia. I could only open my eyes for very short periods of time. My Dr. requires you to drink a bottled Water very slowly before you can be released. So, LOL, I would sleep, wake up take a sip then go back to sleep.< /p>

I can sleep in the bed if I have a pillow that I can put next to my stomach. Everything is sore but not too sore. All in all I am in less pain than expected.

I read on a few of the posts where a few girls did an enema the night before and it seemed to help with the gas. I did that too, and havent really had any of the gas that you guys have mentioned. I feel a tiny ache in my back (inside my body) on the left side but thats it.

I didn't feel like walking but my mom made me! he he, didn't like it at the time but I am glad she did. My DH made me walk when got home from work too, he he, got everyone looking out for me.

I am pretty hungry though, I think I am MIND hungry and not body hungry. Yesterday after I woke up, I started remembering all of the places that I didn't visit for tons of food before I was banded. LOL. I could also see where someone would give into eating something they shouldn't. I won't but I can definitely understand it.

Thanks everyone for this wonderful section of the forum! everything here helped make my surgery day stress free with a peace of mind. :huggie: to you all. :biggrin1:

Glad all went well Faybie. I know what you mean about thinking about the food you didn't get to eat before banding!!! :hungry:

I was watching TV and a Taco Bell commercial came on and I was like "Oh I wish I had Taco Bell one more time before I got banded!":p

The mental hunger is a tough one. I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not REALLY hungry.

Cheers to all the August Bandsters!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: We've made it through the month!!!

You and I were banded by the same doctor but 28 days apart. Like you I could not wake up after surgery. I kept falling back to sleep in recovery. I looked around the room and everybody else was wide awake including Jessica (Clarityseeker), and I looked like death warmed over because I was so sluggish and sleepy. Maybe ths was a good thing! Best of luck to you.

I've had taco bell twice in the last week. I had a meximelt with no problem and pinto's and cheese which was really good. I hadn't had that before!

So, started real food (well, pureed real food) on Tuesday and I've managed to gain 2 lbs back. Guess I'll join the rest of you who did that when they switched off the liquid diet. Not fun. Hopefully I'll start losing again soon. But I have to say, I'm thrilled to be having real food now! Who knew tuna fish and egg salad could taste so yummy? :P

Hi guys,

I'm going in for my surgery in the am....have to be there at 7:30 with surgery at 9. I'm excited but nervous at the same time. Ok, gross question, but I started my period tonight. Has anyone had this happen right before surgery?

Happy2BMe,

I started my period about 8 hours after surgery and wasn't due for almost three weeks (and, i'm on the pill). I had my one week follow up appt. yesterday and asked the doc about it. I was wondering if the surgery made BC pills ineffective, but he said the stress of surgery and sudden shift in diet (pre-op) could cause it. What timing! Like we needed one more thing to deal with! :P Hope you are feeling well.

And congratulations to all of us! What a month! Hope we're all feeling great in September!

Hi!

I was banded August 24, and I am MISERABLE!! Please let me know if any of you have experienced any of this!!! My surgery was last Thursday, and I did pretty well until Monday. I got really nauseated around 1 in the afternoon, but I didn't vomit. Yesterday and today I wasn't so lucky. It's this horrible "throwing up your toenails" vomiting, but NOTHING comes out. The doc called in a prescription for anti-nausea meds (at a cost of $714.99.........I had to pay only $158), but I still threw up. Has ANYONE out there had this?? I've lost 15 lbs since Thursday, but I feel horrible!

Please be careful with this, are you still peeing??

You could be dehydrated!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
