August Band Crew!!!!!

I'm frusterated!!! :D I was down 13 pounds and feeling pretty good. But this morning I weighed myself and I gained a pound!!! My husband said not to panic because I might be retaining some Water or something, not a big deal. But honestly, I never want to see the scale go in that direction ever again. I've been watching myself but I did find out that what I was using as a Protein Drink was too high in calories...(for the record, don't drink Ensure High Protein, it has 230 calories!!!) My doctor said Carnation Instant Breakfast is the best, (no sugar added)

I'm not feeling any restriction at all right now, thank god I'm getting my first fill on Friday. I've been pretty much limited to Instant Breakfast for breakfast, 1/2 cup of cottage cheese for lunch, and Soup for dinner (and 1 or 2 bites of hubby's protein if it's soft. Then water, crystal light, and juice to drink.

My treadmill should be coming this week to I can start exercising. Maybe that will help.

Hey the month is almost over!!! Congrats everyone this month!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

We need to continue to stick together throughout this process for support and encouragement. If any of you need to talk, or vent...I'm here!!!:biggrin1:

Hey guys just checking in....I had a rough recovery for the first few days, lots of nausea but when I realized that I just can't take pain killers, period. So I'm just dealing with the port pain which now 5 days out isnt too bad, and I'm feeling a lot better now! I actually went to my Aunt's 20 year anniversary party yesterday and besides smelling the Brown's chicken and my mouth watering it was fine, I danced and everything lol :D

Good luck to everyone still to be banded, my best peice of advice is listen to your body, dont make it do anything it doesnt want to and you'll be fine! :)

As I approach my fill date (9/11), I wonder whether or not to have it done. I certainly still have a restriction due to the swelling and I understand that it will, and has, lessen over time. I do feel some hunger pains but they are minimal. I am able to eat more each week, but there are still many things I cannot eat, and certainly while the volume has increased weekly, I am nowhere close to what I could consume before. For instance, the other night, I ate a cup of gumbo (w/o rice), 1 1/2 cups of soft fish, and 1 cup of cooked mushrooms. I ate and chewed slowly, but I never felt a sense of fullness or any restriction. I just stopped eating because I wasn't interested in eating anymore. However, later that evening, I did feel some discomfort, some pressure, which lasted most of the night. I did not have a BM till much later the next day.

Without a fill, and once the swelling reduces completely, do our stomachs return to the size they were pre-band placement? Are we then capable of eating anything and everything even though the band is present? So should we do a fill before we are totally starving?

:help:

I had my surgery on August 10, and am just NOW comfortable with anything tight around my waist. I am eating regular food, but not a lot. Yesterday, I had yogurt with berries for breakfast, ordered a cheeseburger and a shake for lunch (ate half the cheeseburger, and gave half the shake to my daughter) and ate the other half of the cheeseburger for dinner. Today I had the same yogurt (Dannon light and fit, 60 calories, no fat), and it was so good, I had TWO of them (the white chocolate raspberry is the best, and I put raspberries and blueberries in them) for breakfast. Lunch was a piece of a chicken enchilada (so easy to make, no fat) and I am going to try steak fajitas for dinner (I love Mexican food). I am just eating so much less than I was - I will put a little bit on my plate, and think that I want seconds when I'm done, but if I just wait a minute, I realize that I don't. I don't know if my ticker works, but I'm down from 243 to 204 this morning!

I am supposed to get my first fill on September 21, but I am not eating that much now. But I am thinking that there is still a lot of swelling now (banded August 10) that might not be around by the 21st. My understanding is that the pouch stays the same size, but the fill makes the opening between the little pouch and the rest of your stomach smaller, so the food stays in the little pouch longer and you stay full longer. So you might be having just liquids until the pouch gets used to the new restriction, but otherwise, it should be the same amount. Am I right?

Just a post to say hi, I'm having my band on Wed. 30th. I've been doing a lot of reading of all of the posts here and think I have learned a lot. I hope that I kind of already know what to expect by reading what everyone who has already had the procedure experienced.

This preop diet is killing me. I've already cheated a couple of times and I am so hungry! I've lost about 8lbs but am scared that when I go for my appt the day b4 surgery that he is going to cancel my surgery because I haven't lost enough. Has anyone else had that happen?

I have always been a BIG Water drinker, but have always tended to gulp whenever I drink. I have continued to gulp since two days after surgery and have not had any "complications" from this as of yet, but want to learn to sip before my first fill. Does anyone have any suggestions to "teach" myself how to sip??? How much is a sip?

GE Mom,

Congratulations on your accomplishments. I am so looking forward to that feeling of normalcy, too. I am five days out, and feel good, but not quite normal yet. Thanks for sharing your good news, it gives us all something to look forward to.

1. First copy the URL from the ticker factory. To place a ticker on the lapband forum, go to Quick Link, then go to Edit Signature, move your cursor to the spot in your signature area where you want the ticker to appear, then above the box you will see a row of icons, click the icon which allows you insert image or picture (it has a mountain with a small box in the corner), a little box will appear asking for the URL, paste the URL from the ticker factory there, and hit enter, your ticker will appear.

2. To get a new ticker, go to Ticker factory, put in new weight, hit enter, and new ticker will appear with new URL. Copy the URL and repeat step 1. You must do this each time you want to change the ticker in your signature area.

I strongly suggest that you do Step 1 before Step 2. Each time I tried to delete the old ticker and then paste the new one, it would not allow me to paste the new URL. I had to delete the old ticker and save the changes first and then paste the new URL in.

Oh, who posted the list of bandsters? You can add that I'm in Chicago, and Dr. Myers did my surgery on August 10.

I had my surgery on 8/23/06. I am doing ok. The hardest thing the first day or two was dealing with the pain and gas back-up in my tummy. I couldn't seem to or haven't yet burped and right now it would feel so good. I just have to wait until it passes and then I am cool. I also am struggling with telling the difference between hunger and pain sensations. I am having to relearn how to eat and to drink, amazingly enough. I can no longer gulp liquids. I guess I can now drink lady like. My grandmother would be so proud of me, lol. I can sleep on my side again, not sure if I will ever be able to sleep on my stomach again, it just irritates my port side too much. Oh well. I am a little hungry but yesterday I bought a can of Tomato Soup at the store combined with a cup of skim milk and it was pure heaven. The first taste of real food that I have had since the 22nd. So, overall, I am doing good. I am walking semi-normal, except when I don't eat when my stomach commands and then I go into stomach cramps. Before I had this done I could get away with putting off eating. But not now. Let me tell you, I feel hungry I drink my Protein Shake and eat my apple sauce. That's all for now. By the way, my name is Dieta. Nice to meet you all.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
