Good luck WhimsicalClay!!!!

Sounds like everyone is doing great. I am now 10 days post op and feeling pretty good minus some port pain. Didn't really think that would be that uncomfortable, but it's ok.

I have started to integrate some mushy foods into my diet now and haven't had any problems (knock on wood). This weekend I tried some wendy's chili...boy did that taste like heaven...and I tried a little piece of perch. It was wonderful! Just chewing, chewing, chewing!

Good luck to everyone .... you are all in my thoughts a prayers!

Dieta,

I feel the same way you do. When I start to feel hungry I have to eat NOW! I start to feel sick if I put it off. Saturday me and my hubby went out of town to find parts for his rc helicopter and we were almost to the place and I suddenly pulled in to Taco bell. He says "What are you doing?" I said "I have to eat NOW!!!!!" hahaha. I had a pintos and cheese and it was sooooooooooo good and I felt 100% better after that.

Good luck to all that's being banded today! We're almost done with the month and then we'll all be losing our Buns off! hehehe.

Hi Dieta, I shared the same surgery day with you. Glad to hear you are feeling pretty good. I had the same sensations. Everything seems to be a learning process-what is pain? hunger? gas? fullness? It seems to be getting a bit easier every day though. I hope for you, too. A good friend of mine keeps reminding me that it didn't take us a week to gain all this weight, so it's going to take a little longer to figure this new system out! :) Best of luck!

ACCCKKK!!!

I just glanced at my hula girl, and what a shock to see it's only 3 days. 3 days!! :clap2: :faint: :embarassed:

I remember setting that ticker up and having it show 2 months and 2 weeks. I can not believe it's so close.

Gosh, I'm now 6 days out, but it seems like forever on these liquids. Last night I made Tapioca. Love tapicoca, but be careful not to get too much in there at once !!!

Just read somebodies post about Tomato Soup. Think that is what I'm having tonight. yummm.

Went to lunch with some girlfriends, and we always meet at this Mexican food place. I asked for a CUP of just the juice from Tortilla Soup. The waiter brought me one of GIANT bowls of the juice that you get for a main meal at Italian restaurants!!!! OMG! What, did he think I was going to swim in it? Only got down about 6 or 7 spoons. Sure am ready to start the squishy foods. There is definitly nothing wrong with my nose.

My port incision is still very sore, not too bad when I'm reclining. But I came back to work today, and sitting upright has really been painful.

Also, still itching like crazy. Get some of those NEXCARE cloth dressings to replace after your showers. The regular bandaid tore up my skin!

Not sure how to word this. Did anyone else get their boobs glued out of the way during surgery???

Ha Ha! I read through the July bandsters post and they talk about this in their posts. They are a pretty funny group. I haven't had my surgery yet, but from looking at the July post....having your breasts taped out of the way is pretty standard. You should go have a look at their thread, they are quite humorous. One lady posted "Ok so, I wanna know whose job was it to hold my 10lb. boobs out of the way?" LOL. cracked me up.

lisah25,

Goodluck, I am just one day ahead of you. I was much more nervous last week, now im just giddy. yippppeeeeee!

Everything went very well yesterday. However, I am in great pain from gas in my back. I took some tums and that does not seem to be helping. Going to send boyfriend to get some gas x. I didn't expect to be in this much pain. Other than that, I'm getting around very well but not eating much at all.

I only gained roughtly 2 pounds from the surgery. I went in at 232.3 and came home weighing 234.6...I've read somewhere that someone gained like 9 pounds from the surgery fluids.

Anyway, I also hada tubaligation done at the same time! So a little discomfort could be coming from that as well.

I arrived at the surgery center at 6:30, took care of a little paperwork. Went in to back and changed. Was on the bed and filling out consent forms, talking to BF and gynocologist, while getting an IV drip. The surgeon got there close to 8 and then I was wheeled in. I remember a little while in the OR and then the next thing I remember I was awaken at 10:10 am in recovery. Did the barium drink and xray and was on my way home around 11:40 or so.

I slept most of yesterday and am feeling better today except for the gas, right now it's excruiating.

Going to lie down.

Thanks for all the well wishes!!!

Welp, I had my first PB last night. Bad Libra!! Bad, bad Libra!!!:D

I had been doing so well on mushies that I thought. "Hey, I can handle a hamburger" So I had 1/2 a hamburger on a plate and some mashed potatoes. I made some brown gravy to help get it down. :hungry:

I was a good girl, chewed and chewed and chewed. I managed to eat the hamburger and about a tablespoon of potatoes.

Needless to say, ten minutes later I stated getting a pain in my chest. Kind of like a knife into my breast bone, then a sudden feeling of nausea. Actually it felt like the food was stuck in my throat. And then...all hell broke loose!!!! I was at my parents house and my dad was panicking. He kept yelling to me in the bathroom, "Are you okay?" (Sorry Dad, too busy puking my guts out to answer!!!)

If you can picture this...(or maybe you don't want to :phanvan ) I'm leaning over the toilet making these horrible loud sounds. I was trying to be quiet about it but I couldn't. Can you imagine I was trying to be polite? LOL!!!

Anyway, I don't think I'm ready for solids yet, LOL!!!!:D I think after experiencing my first PB, I am going to be VERY careful not to overeat. That was an experience I really don't want to repeat...EVER!

Cheers to all the August Bandsters!!!!!!! We Rock!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Libra-

To heavy - that's the problem- I've been back to the hospital and met with the nutritionist twice!! She keeps telling me to stay away from red meat. Yesterday met with my surgeon, the Nurse practioner and the nutritionist, again, and they said that I'm doing OK, considering I've not gotten a fill - 272 pre op, and 253 yesterday, but, I've been sticking with Soups that have chicken or turkey, cottage cheese ( with no sugar added jelly) and optima slim fast. 9/2 I get to go on solids. For a woman who hates to cook, this will be a nightmare - You want me to measure??

Anyway - good luck to all

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
