CONGRATS TO US ALL!!! We did it! We should all give ourselves a huge pat on the back--or in my case I can't quite reach--so a pat on the thigh will do!:D

My doc said only Clear liquids for one week, then Protein shakes and yogurt added for second week, then Tomato Soup and cream Soups added the third week. I hope I can make it that long--because right now even a Slimfast sounds good! lol

The good thing is that I have already lost 20 pounds--but I still have 100 more to go! I would like to know why I do that--it's SOOOO great to lose 20, but then I think of how much more I have to lose and get frustrated already!:phanvan Oh well--hopefully by Christmas I will lose at least 30 more!!

Hey--that's an idea--we can have an ABC (August Band Crew)Christmas thread--saying how much we want to lose or what weight we want to be by Christmas! Or Thanksgiving--or at each 1st of the month--whatever. Have an ABC October 1st thread--I don't know. Just a thought to keep us all updated with each other!

Continued luck to everyone!

Trizzy,

I also had my surgery by Dr Ortiz and Dr Miranda altered my post-op schedule to include Tomato Soup and smoothies on post-op day 4. That was the prescribed diet from day 4- day 21 when I can start solids. I told her up front that I would not be doing yogurt or Protein Shakes. If you find yourself having a hard time e-mail her she'll get back to you quickly. I agree about the Christmas wish. Good luck.

I like the ABC idea!!! It seems so simple, but I don't think I would have ever thought of it myself. I will start the 'ABC September Chat' in just a moment, so go find our newest thread and continue sharing our stories, victories, difficulties, etc. With you first post, make sure to share what your goal is for October 1st. We can do this one month at a time.

SURBY---- If you are vomiting that violently, please call your Dr. again don't wait. That kind of severe straining can put you port AND stiches in danger. Plus your not holding down liquids and you DON'T want to dehydrate. I hope this passes for you quickly,PLEASE keep us updated.

So here we all are...the end of the month! All those weeks and days we all waited so anxiously to go by, that big circle we all have on our calenders for our 'BANDAY'. Give up? who said that?! this month kicks the other 11 months asses! we can't NOT Keep going! we just started our new lives, we have to have holidays and anniversaries! this is the best part, I love reading how well everyone is doing, even the hard parts seem easier when you can share it.Right? Like this...I have 6 kids, and right now I would sell one of them for a bagel. Any takers?

We should definitely keep in touch. This forum is my link to those who stand in my shoes, and continues to offer support, guidance, and useful information on banding. For example, as I enter the next phase - my first fill - I have already started reading posts on the subject just so I know what to expect and what questions to ask. Keep on trucking August bandsters!!

So sorry to hear you're not doing well. I had a very bad reaction to the gas they pump you up with, lots of nausia for about three days. For about a week I had horrible gas and couldn't sleep laying down. I slept in a recliner for about a week. The best thing for the gas is to get up and walk. I also found that a long HOT shower helped to move the gas. I was so weak I couldn't hardly move but I forced myself to and it helped. I would only get about three hours sleep at a time and then up for two or three and then all over again. Then for about the second week I had a bloated feeling in my mid section. My Dr. said that is swelling in the stomach. Two or three sips was about all I could do also. I found cold liquids, Gaterade, Powerade were the best things. The cold felt good. Good luck, and I hope you get to feeling better soon. I remember feeling so bad and down that I cried and wondered, "What the hell did I do to myself???" But it gets better and it's all WORTH IT.

Looks like we've all moved over to the ABC (for August Band Crew) September Chat thread on the LapBand Support forum. Come on over everyone! Maybe a moderator can lock this one so we don't have to keep going back and forth?

I survived! Got home about 5:30 last night, went straight to bed and slept 12 hours. I feel OK today. Tired, groggy and a little sore. Not as bad as I thought I might be. Can drink liquids just fine.

The staff was wonderful!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
