African American Sleevers

  • Popular Post

Hi All!

I wanted to start a thread for African-American sleevers (no worries I HEART all sleevers from the rainbow). I just thought, no scientific proof, that African-American sleevers may respond to the surgery different than our lovely non-African American sleeved sisters and brothers. I wanted to know if we had the same skin issue, hair problems, and other surgery related issues. Also, how to deal with the culture shock. African-American "soul food" may be something of the past... or not. So I was just looking for a space to voice culture related issues and concens.

PS- I TRULY  ALL SLEEVERS.

I had my sleeve placed this past Wednesday I came home Thursday. I started cramping and now I have something like a light cycle but I just had one on September 9th I did have intercourse on the 21st but thought nothing of it the test was negative the day of surgery. Did anyone else go through this. So could it just be the stress of the procedure?

Hello family. I was sleeved Monday and I am doing great. Able to drink required liquids with protein. Not able to tolerate jello or my vitamins/calcium chews. Going to try powder vitamins and add to drinks. No pain what so ever. I get to start full liquids tomorrow and I can't wait. Pudding and cream soups here I come.

Anyone's surgeon have a crazy sounding goal weight for them? I am scared that my surgeon will set mine at 110 or something crazy like that.. I am 5'2 but I plan on keeping some booty and breasts I do not want to be stick thin... I am thinking 135...

I'm 5'2 and my surgeons goal for me is 135 so you maybe in luck although I was thinking 145 or 150.

I think I would look fantastic at 145 but I know 135 is what it may take to make surgeon happy..

I'm currently 260, my pcp said he'd be happy with 175 but I wanna push for 145/135. The surgeon said that way when I get older it will be ok if I gain a little

I am pre-op @ 256 and scheduled for surgery on 12/3 and 160/65 is my personal goal... I have no desire to be less.. My goal is to be healthy, and to feel great and look good.

I'm 37 and 5'2. I've been approved but I don't have a date yet.

Just discovered this thread. I had my surgery 9/21. I am still doing full liquids and can't wait for my post op appt next week. I have to wait until then to get something new added to my diet. Today has been tough emotionally as I am so freakin tired of broth and tired of the hubby driving me everywhere in my brand new car. I know he is just lovin it. Doc will not allow me to work from home or drive until I see him...rest walk n sip.

Congratulations to you. I can't until it is my turn. Did you have a lot of pain after the surgery? How long did you stay in the hospital after the surgery? That is my biggest concern, as I have previously had long stays in the hospital after a total knee replacement and then a life-threatening infection a year later.

Hey! I was sleeved on the 27th and I feel pretty good! I had some issues with my BP, but they increased my meds and I also had to come home with a pic line. The protein was making me nauseous, but I figured I would try again today and my protien is making me feel a whole lot better! I had a few emotional moments where I was like Lord why did I do this, and he always made sure there was someone there in the hospital who had the surgery too to remind me why. I am pressing toward the mark, each day I notice I feel better. I have a couple of milestones, I was 480 at my pre-surgical testing appointment and then 453 on the day of surgery, then I was 458 yesterday, but I know that's because of all the fluids. Then because I had been so heavy and there was a lot of fluid on my legs, they were very painful to touch, the pain is gone, and my legs actually look like legs now :D

It really depends on your situation and pain tolerance. I had surgery last Thursday and haven't had any pain medication since last Fri night. That just means that my pain has been tolerable and I wanted to get off pain meds ASAP so I can drive. I'm more sore than in pain and I move a certain way I do have more pain. Rest assured you'll be ok and the doctor will give you a RX for pain meds to help with the pain. Wishing you well this week and a healthy recovery.

Hello Ladies, I am currently Pre-op and my appointments are scheduled through the month of October, PCP Wellness check as well as Birth Control {getting the Mirena}. followed by 2 NUT, 1 Occupational Health, and group~ I'm super excited as I am a Military spouse and Hubby is due to return soon hopefully I can get a date the end of November so that he can take care of me and nurse me into better health~}

I enjoyed reading all of the wonderful stories you ladies have shared thus far but I do have a question~

For those who begin or continued to use Hormonal based Birth Control have you noticed a slower weight loss pattern than normal? I ask because I know from previous experience BC has caused me to feel bloated and pack on a few lbs~ What has your experience been like with Birth Control and being Sleeved???

I look forward to hearing about your experience~

T~
