That?s right!! Next Wednesday is the big day for me!

I?m soooo excited I can hardly stand it! This past 5 weeks has absolutely flown by. I?m still thinking of things I?m going to need? it?s like a never ending story. I'm so glad I decided to start sooner rather than later. I would?ve felt truly overwhelmed this coming weekend.

Thank you all so very much for all your support!! This is the best support website on the WWW? no lie. I?m fortunate!

So I?ll post my pre-op stuff here and post-op to avoid making new threads for every little thing (unless it's major!). I also won?t dig too much into my past ? only that I was banded on 2/11/08 and its going to be removed in the process.

All the very best to anyone being sleeved around this time too! Ok, and everyone else too? I mean, I don?t want to leave anyone out.

Make your dreams reality!!!

Hi there, congrats on your weight loss adventure, I pray everything goes well for you!

I was curious, How much is it for the sleeve with this Dr and I was wondering were is he at, is he in TJ or close to it?

Thanks and good luck to you

Ms Lisa

Thanks Lisa, Dr. Aceves charged me for a revision. I can't really remember how much he charged for a sleeve only. I believe it was around 7,900 or something close to that. He is in Mexicali which is closer to the Arizona border rather than the San Diego area.

You would be super impressed. It's a small quiet hospital and the nurses are always so attentive. You will also stay at the Holiday Inn which is quite plush. The food there is really good too.

You will also like the idea of staying in the hospital for 4 days and 3 nights. You really do need it. I just can't imagine having been sent home the very next day with how I felt. Mine was a revision, so more detail involved but still. It's tough! Good luck on your decision!

Thanks Gracey!!! :))

Hi everyone! I'm alive, and made it through the more torturous hours post op. Was wondering there for a minute if I would too. I was doubting my decision to do this even, and wished I could take it all back. But as the hours passed and the better I felt I realized I made a good decision. True and final decision but that's how it is. I needed something permanent. There's no getting out of this one so you just have to learn how to work with it and not against it.

Hoping everyone else is doing good too!

BTW I was 272.0 on surgery day. I can't update it from here on my ticker but just wanted to reflect that for the record.

I missed this thread when it started but it was so fun to read through it! Lil Miss Diva, you are so precious! It brought back memories of Dr. Aceves and my stay there. It's great that they are good memories for me! When else has surgery ever been a good memory?

Today you are 2 days post-op so I bet we start seeing more posts from you soon. I love how you write about your feelings. Very expressive. And it sounds like you have a joyous outlook on life....I am always drawn to people like that.

I bet your mom is taking VERY good care of you!

Thank you breezy :biggrin2: !!!

I simply cannot say enough about Dr. Aceves, Dr. Campos, Yolanda, Nina and all the rest of the staff here. They have been superb. I've never needed to wait for more than 1 full minute for someone to see me if I press the call button. Their accommodations are A+++!!! For all the folks around here who have convinced me to come here, I give a hearty THANK YOU!!!

Just to give you an idea of how wonderful it is here... my Mom is a huge worry wart. Well only after one day did they settle her nerves and she has been happy ever since. She's always commenting on how helpful they are and how clean they keep it here. She often compares it to some facilities in the US and the nod goes to Hospital Almater!

I finally finished my first full 10 oz glass of apple juice. It only took me 5 hours but I did it. Now they have my full spread for dinner. broth, lemonade, apple juice and chamomile tea. It's actually really good tasting. I surely don't remember saying that after lap band surgery!!!

Here is a little comparison I've noticed just today with my new sleeve vs. post op Lap Band.

Lap Band = Day 3, super HUNGRY!!!! liquids was not cutting it, and I was absolutely miserable. I worked through it but it was NOT easy!

Sleeve = Day 3, zero hunger. Not even thinking about food and here comes this huge tray of liquids. Though, they are good and I drink them, but had they not come I honestly can't say I'd even give it a second thought.

Just a little tidbit of info... and I'm ALREADY TICKLED ABOUT IT!!! Could this sleeve been what I needed all along? Well, so far so danged good!

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't easy the first few days. I had severe nausea, vomited once and it wasn't pretty. Dr. Campos came right in and said "this will make you feel better, and a bit sleepy". Well, ha! That's all I remembered after that. I pretty much slept the rest of the day... lol I do also have some abdominal cramping, but hey - they just cut my stomach out so I wouldn't say that is abnormal.

Dr. Aceves is quite impressed with my outcome. He said he usually notices some pulsing from his band to sleeve patients during the 3rd leak test. He didn't see any with me, so that was good! I'm all set to go as of 7 am tomorrow... now I loved it here, but surely there IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME!! :001_wub:

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
