when can I get back to work

Recommended Posts

I am self employed. I really cant be out for more than 3 days. What is the consensus as to when I can return to work after my lap band 6/10/13. Concerned.

All doctors vary. Everyone is different, and no set time is perfect for everyone.... Talk to your doctor.

And it depends on the type of work that you do. If you are a desk jockey and can take breaks as you need, then you might be ok to go back after three days.Personally I would not recommend it as it always takes me a week to recover from a general anesthetic.

Perhaps you could schedule your surgery adjacent to a weekend or public holiday to give yourself the longest break possible.

Yea, I just had surgery yesterday and I couldn't see myself going back to work tomorrow, even at a desk job. Maybe 5 or 6 days, at a desk job. But everybody's different too.

Very much depends on type of work. I had surgery on a Tuesday and took the rest of that week an the next off-a week was needed but it was still painful to go back-I walk around allay and I'm constantly bending over so I was warned by a coworker to take a week of vacation (she also had complications after surgery so she was out a bit over 2 weeks)

While i work at a desk there is lifting and running and the unknown in my place of work.. the doctors office gave me 6 weeks... i will say it took at least 3 before i was able to move and not be in pain

I had surgery last wed and I went back to work yesterday planning to just stay for a few hours to see how I felt and I ended up being there longer than expected... today I'm feeling better than yesterday.... so I agree with everyone else that it all depends on your healing...

Good luck on your new journey :-)

Hey Stept04 I had my surgery yest too. How u doing?? I don't feel bad really. I did have some beef broth earlier and I loved it. I'm supposed to be working on 60 oz of fluids. I've got just about 16 oz down. I just feel bloated.

I am self employed also and did not want to be off work as long as I was. I honestly thought I could see a patient the day after surgery lol!!! Anyways it was about 6-7 days before I could work even a little and my job isn't at a desk but not very physically demanding. Take the time you need and recoup. That general anesthesia is not a game!

I am an engineer and work mainly at a desk when in the office. I had my surgery on a Wednesday, and was back to the office on Monday. And it was too soon. I push myself too hard, and this was one of those times. I wound up going home from the office on Monday at 1 and took a nap the rest of the afternoon.

I did work the rest of the week, but it was tough. Mind you, I have had other surgeries before and came back on a similar timeline.....but this one has a double whammy, not only are you recovering from the surgery, but you are living on far less caloric input than you were used to.

You can plan on taking three days, but keep in mind the first few days back will be hell if you do. And keep the first week schedule loose, so if you have to cut out early, it can be done

When I pushed my self to hard I popped a stitch. Don't over do it. Better safe than sorry-I was sorry

I had surgery on 5/24 (last fri) and I went back yesterday 5/28. I only worked a half day yesterday but today I worked a full day and will be from now on. Granted, I work at a primarily desk job, but today I did do a significant amount of walking and I'm aching a little but not too bad. Hope this helps!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
