Recommended Posts

Yes I am also on for 21 days pre op diet. Where r u getting your band done? I am going to Toronto, Canada.

Hi Blackleopard, I sent you a PM as well, it is nice to see someone going through the same pre-op as myself, at the same clinic too!

I'm being banded in Toronto too! I only had a 10 day pre-op diet but my friend who was banded in May had 21 days too. I'm glad I only had 10 days, long enough!! My surgeon said the duration on pre-op is based on your BMI. Good luck on your journies!!

I'm lucky actually, I'm from about an hour and a half north of Toronto. I'm a local. That's a long trip for you!

I really, really want mushy food.

I ate some potato Soup today. It went down fine, no nausea or discomfort whatsoever.

I need to know what some good full liquids are, because I'm starving, and I'm tired of SF popsicles. :(

My husband wondered if a V8 or similar vegetable cocktail with low sodium might help? I think they have fruit flavour and extra fibre...Good luck...

TODAY is the DAY! I'll be rolling into the OR in about 3 hours. It was an emotional rollercoaster yesterday, but today I am focused and ready. Wish me luck!

OK, I'm a nervous wreck today! I'm heading to a vascular surgeon in a couple of hours to have a vena cava filter put in. My family has a history of blood clots and they seem to think this is the best route for me to go. My Lapband surgery is next Tuesday and I'm more nervous about today than that! I'm not sure if it's because this is happening now and my surgery is still a few days away, or if it's because they are putting this thing into a main artery. I'm trying my hardest to keep calm and breathe but my stomach is doing somersaults! Has anyone else had this done?

Checking in:

The operation was smooth. My surgeon said there very little fat on my liver and other organs, which makes me so happy. He took my gallbladder out first then the band. I'm having more pain on my right side. Something to do with an extra stitch. I had bad muscle spasms earlier, but with a little dilaudid IV, it was controlled. My Fluid intake has been slow. I feel really tight in the chest when I drink. I've been up twice to walk around the unit...getting ready for the third. I didn't sleep well last night (no surprise) so it will be bedtime for me I think.

Good luck to tomorrow's bandsters!

uiwleelee,

try some other thicker Soups, just drain out the solids, thats what i did with some hot and sour Soup, it was amazing-i think the corn starch helped with the feeling of fullness! btw how are you feeling, day 9 and im feeling 85% better thank God! just a little sore and a little gas but im starting to feel like my old self, minus the constant itchy feeling around my stitches! let me know how the soups are working out!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
