Congrats girls on surgery dates and sticking to the diet.

Well today I had my first breakdown. 3rd day of liquids. Every day is harder, not easier. I am just so hungry today and feel so physically weak. I have had enough Protein so far (50g) yet I have no energy. I feel frustrated.. I just went into my car and cried.

I am so sorry that you are having a bad time with this. I started the liquid diet on my own because I have so much to lose before surgery.(50 lbs). I know that this is a very trying and emotional time but think about how much better you will feel this time next year :) I feel the emotional ups and downs too and I just think about 6 months from now and the last 46 years that it took me getting to where I am today. Its ok to cry,I am sure we will all do it at one point or another as this is all foreign and a little scary for us all.

While you are doing the liquid diet you are taking Vitamins too, correct? You dont want to get deficient in other nutrients and vitamins during this process. Now is a good tiem to get yourself into the regime as it is something that we will have to do for the rest of our lives. I went and bought myself some gummies so that I feel like I am getting a candy treat ...lol

I hope that the rest of today will be better and that you will gain some strength in knowing that we are all here for you. Maybe in two weeks you can tell me to stop whining like the baby I KNOW I am going to be when it comes to the surgery!!

For the Constipation problem, try drinking at least 64 oz. of Water a day - not counting coffee, tea or Crystal Light. That has really been helping me stay regular. I drink 4 oz. of water every hour that I'm awake and it's not too hard.

Thanks! I have been keeping a glass of water with me all day, sipping on it constantly and it seems to be helping.

Your reply really lifted my spirits Deb. You're right. I am glad it's not just me that is feeling emotional and overwhelmed by this. I will be fine one minute then ready to scream or cry a minute later. lol! I talked to the bariatric nurse today and she said day 3 and 4 are hardest for everyone. But like you said, it took years to get this way and change won't happen overnight. This will all be worth it in the end. WHat is your surgery date? I am a week away.

Once I started liquids I assumed I couldn't do vitamins. However, just got off the phone with the dietician after seeing your post and she said I can take my Multivitamin and Vitamin D. woohoo!

Two weeks from now I will be there to remind you of all the things you told me. we just gotta hang in there.

I am on day 4 of my preop diet and have found that if I stay ahead of the hunger I do better I have my coffee at 8am, a Protein Drink at 9:30, chicken broth at 11:30, SF Jello at 1:30, Beef broth at 3:30, a Protein Shake at 5:30, SF popsicle at 7:00 and bed by 9. I am satisfied with this plan.

I love this!! WTG! I am on day 1 and Im trying to figure out ways to stay ahead of my hunger. This is a very nice plan. Good for you hon! :)

I'm on day 4 of the diet, and it has def gotten better. Last night I found myself near tears and irritable, to the point where I could even talk to my boyfriend because he had eaten pizza and I could smell it. Today was a bit different, I had a Protein Shake and a bottle of Water at 8 am and found myself "full" until about 11 30. IDK hoooow it works but I'll take it.

Hi .I am a May Bandster...I am scheduled for May 16th and my surgeon is Dr. Almanza. I am buying liquid broth and things I will need now..I made sure to get gas-x as that seems to be a big problem. I wonder if everyone gets gas or it is random?

I can't do fruit juice as it converts to sugar too rapidly for my system and I get sick..I have to find all diet products...I don't know if getting the Protein should be better in powder form and then mix it or the already mixed..anyone have any advice on that who is already in the know on taste...??

Good luck to all of you. It takes alot of trust in yourself to do this in the first place..remember how you felt when you made this decision and your fortitude...keep your eye on the desination and enjoy the journey to your sucess so you never let it out of your sight and never let it slip away from you....namaste...

It's a new procedure that theyve updated with the lap band. Your suppose to see better results. What they do is the surgeon folds your stomach in half and add stitching like 10-12. It helps from the bad slipping and less fills are involved. I heard it will be available more next year with lap band patients. Google it it's called the IBAND!

I purchased the slim fast 321 shakes and I noticed that they make two kinds. One is low carb and the other isn't. I purchased the wrong one. Question is, would it make a difference while doing my pre-op diet? I'm worried now. I didn't know :( please help me out

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
