You read it correctly. I'm self pay so I did not have to go through the diet part first, although I'v been on a diet for the last 15 years. How do you go about informing people, ect. I'm nervous about social functions and such. Thanks!

Everyone has their own way about how and who and why. Other than my husband I'm telling my 2 adult children and best friend. If, after surgery, my weight loss is a topic of conversation I will tell. I'm not broadcasting it but I also wont lie about it.

I've only told several family members, and only a couple of co-workers. Eating in public (like in meetings with co-workers) is kind of iffy, but I usually just take food and push the excess around, and if anyone asks (haven't had anyone ask yet) I'll just say I'm not feeling well that day. I havent had surgery yet but my True Results Mentor told me to consider telling little to nobody. He said people will say silly stuff like "i thought you would have lost more by now" or other stupid comments. He said it is better not to have to explain alot to anyone and have a mentor to vent to. He said it is hard with everyone watching to see how you do and judging along the way.

I am very open and I have told 5 co-workers and my family (except my dad - he will be mean about it). I am sure the word is around more now that I am getting it. I did so b/c I dont care that much what others think, I have great friends that like me anyway, and I dont want to lie about why I am eating, acting and looking different. But that is just what I think will work for me. I am scheduled 5/22/12.

You're going to a Center of Excellence so you shouldn't have any problems

at all with your surgery, in fact, being self pay, you should be able to go home the same day (bring a driver), and be back to work in 3-4 days. I don't see why anyone

needs to know anything you don't really want them to know. This is strictly your

affair and if you need to say anything, say your health requires you to loose a

little weight, and that's what you're doing.

Don't forget your slippers and PJs, I hope you do well.

I'd say, keep it between you and the people you love. Share with those you know will not judge you harshly and those who will support you wholeheartedly. Good luck!

I'm the kind that feels friends/family (Certain ones) are on a need to know basis- and that is the don't need to know. Other than my husband and 2 friends no one will know. I'm not sure how it's going to be either because my husband works for the hospital where I will be having it.

You would not be lying to tell people you have decided to change you eating habits.

People will be happy for you. don't worry and it's fine not to tell people. you will tell if and when you feel most comfortable!

Im general i just say im watching what i eat an for me lowcarbs. Thats it not even everyone in my family knows.

Initially I told only my husband (well, we made the decision together so of course he knew!), our two adult sons, and my mother. Now I don't mind who knows and even told three workmates when we went out for dinner this week. One of the reasons I didn't want to tell was to avoid the whole "I thought you would have lost more by now" and "Are you allowed to eat that?" conversation.

Guess what? Those sorts of comments and questions still came up from people who thought I was simply eating less and working out more! Everyone felt they had a right to ask how much I had lost, how much more I was going to lose etc. So now I share openly about my band, but also point out, where necessary, that I eat well and that I exercise plenty. Being called a fitness fanatic is a compliment! (PS I am 58kg down in 11 months)

Only my immediate family know that I had the surgery (March 9th). I don't like my co-workers (yeah, long story: they would be very critical). One lady did mention that I had lost weight (pre-op diet) and I just told her that I was trying to make "a lifestyle change" and she accepted that. When I go back to work, I will just say I had a hernia repaired (which I did).

I thought at first I wouldn't want anyone to know that I am working my way towards surgery (don't have an exact date pinned down yet, within the next two months) but as I'm getting more comfortable and more informed about the surgery, I'm actually feeling empowered! I like to be able to share me knowledge and and don't feel like I'm taking the "easy way out" or "cheating". I still haven't told some family, but my close family and coworkers know. It's nice to share what I've learned, and I think when it all comes down to it, I may need their support to stay strong. It's already been helpful when trying to make some pre-op diet changes. For those that don't really NEED to know, if they ask, I will simply just say that I've made a lifestyle change.

I don't feel the need to tell coworkers. Once you are healed you will eat solid food like everyone else. If you can't eat 3 oz of solid protein you are too tight. Knock on wood I have never had a PB or thrown up. Weight is the one area that people feel they can mind YOUR business. I don't need anyone acting like the food police.

I told only family and best friends at first. Some of my co-workers suspect but are smart enough not to ask me. I tell people who have not seen me in forever that I'm stuffing less food in my face and getting off my rear end. Which is entirely true.

It is none of their business what you with your body. I was on limited duty for 4 weeks after surgery and said I had surgery on my esophagus (they knew about my severe reflux from tums on desk all the time). Again, entirely true. What exact procedure doesn't matter.

Before I decided to have this surgery, i had to get over the worry about what people will say and think. This is a personal decision and people's comments and judgments need to mean very little to you. I have told those who need to know, my sisters, some family members and close friends. i decided to be proud of what I am doing, not ashamed. That does not mean I am going to advertise what I'm doing, just like I would not advertise anything that is my personal business, When people ask what are you doing, here is the answer: I have changed my eating habits, exercising. That is the truth. Don't worry about what people think. Iknow it is easier said than done, but that was somethign I decided before the surgery. Godd Luck to you!

Monday 19th is banding day for me!...Everyone doesn't know and if I haven't told them by now; they will never know... I do agree you have to be selective... No negative behavior...that is how most of us became bigger than life in a shoe box
