What Are Your Cant Haves

Recommended Posts

Elizabeth Anne, I bought mine on Amazon.com and got the chocolate varitey as well they came together for around 12 dollars.

I ordered mine from Amazon too. When I got mine, I noticed that it came from a town about 20 minutes from me, lol. I had no idea when I ordered it. It tastes really good in my smoothies, but I've never tried it in much else.

There is really nothing I can't eat as long as I pay attention, chew and eat slowly. With that said, if I am anxious or tense, I can forget about eating...rushing in anyway will cause PB or being severely uncomfortable. Mornings, I am just not able to eat at all for a few hours or more unless I drink some hot liquids. Needless to say, I drink a lot of shakes or Water. Oh, and the car.... Not a good idea unless you have a bag nearby. In my case, it's not enough time to focus and chew properly... Unfortunately it's going to be trial and error. I have found it helpful to journal my mood/emotion as well as my food which is how I discovered when I have the most problems.

Funny about the car....It is only recently that I have NOTbeen eating my Breakfast on my drive to work. It usually takes me 30 minutes with all the traffic. Perfect amount of time to eat and keep my eye on the clock to time in between bites.

No bread, Pizza Crust, steak, tomoatoes, broc, cheese balls, rice, frozen drinks, red wine hard as it gives me wicked heatburn, burns my throat going down. Al least i can still have cheese!

Rice. That is one thing I for sure can never eat. No matter how it's cooked. I can no longer eat chicken or turkey breast and those were my favorite. bread is hit or miss. Most times, though, I can't eat it. Hamburgers are hit and miss as well. Oh, and fresh or stir-fry broccoli. I can't eat it.

It really is hard for me to plan meals each day for myself AND my son.

For those who can't eat turkey, chicken, or beef, how do you get your Protein? Most all my protein comes from meat sources. There is no way I could get all my protein in if I couldn't eat meat. I refuse to live on protein shakes....I know their are eggs, cheese, and milk also, but meat is your biggest source of protein.

So far I can eat shrimp and lobster. When I mentioned it to my nutritionist, she was surprised as she's heard many of us can't. I was eating steamed chicken & blended broccoli from Chinese takeout before my first fill and did fine. After the fill, no more chicken, no matter how much I chewed. So for now, it's steamed shrimp & broccoli. I had lobster the night before my first fill as it was my birthday the day of my fill. That went down with no problem but I haven't had it since so I'm hoping it won't be a problem now. It's not like I eat it every week. It's a treat.

I cant do tortilla's. I tried it two different times, chewing really well the second time and still got stuck. So now I just have my chicken salad/tuna salad on a piece of toast.

Both times was flour...I haven't tried, nor do I think I will, the corn ones. It's weird I can have bread but a bite of tortilla forget about it.

Welp. Tried a plain, no bun all beef hotdog last night. Nope. That sucker killed me for about 4 hours until I finally had to bring it up. I had bad heartburn all night and woke up with it STILL in my pouch. Sucker would not go down. Check that off the list. Yuck.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
