My surgeon said I have the option of staying in the hospital overnight or leaving the hospital the same day I have surgery, provided everything goes well. I live a couple of hours from the hospital where I am having surgery, so I am leaning toward staying in the hospital in case I have a complication. However, I would much rather go home than stay. Would you please share your experiences? Thank you!

Staying gets u that nice iv drip and great pain management. Being home offers a comfort as well tho. Kinda just a personal decision. I was sent home with no option of staying over. My fiance took great care of me so no issues but I would def stay over if I did have great help at home

I checked in at 6:00am, had surgery at 7:30 and was on my way by 11:30. I was totally fine to go home, but I too had my wonderful hubby with me. I was chomping at the bit to get out of there. No rest for the weary in a hospital. Best of luck to you!

I stayed the night and am so glad. I also live alone with a 3 year old though so I wouldve had a hard time without any help, I think. I guess if you have someone at home waiting for you, staying in the hospital can feel confining, but for both this and my last surgery, I opt to stay as long as I can. Its nice to be catered to and to have instant answers to my questions and concerns. The iv pain meds are wonderful too :)

I havent had surgery yet but I would absolutely stay. It's only one day of your life and you will be monitored and taken care of. The trip home will likely be more comfortable as well.

Good luck for tomorrow !

I stayed in overnight and am glad i did ... I felt fine afterwards and could have gone home but i felt i learned more from the nurses looking after me than i would have had i have left straight after. That extra bit of support really helped ..

I was to be there at 1pm, had the surgery at 2. Was in recovery by 4pm (took longer than they thought) and discharged by 6pm. I had arranged for my children to have sleepovers that night and had my mother stay over. I felt well enough to go home but wouldn't have minded staying the night, just to feel more relaxed and not worried that I might have some complication however that wasn't really an option.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
