New In Texas And Have Decided To Do This!

Recommended Posts

I just found this site and think it is absolutely wonderful. I am not completely unfamilar with the Band. My husband was banded 3 years ago on the 14th. I have seen him drop over 100 pounds and have done things like the liquid diet, etc. to be supportive of him. The only problem was, once we weren't doing liquids, I would gain all of my weight back and then some. I went to my first appointment on January 2nd. I have Aetna, so we have 3 more visits left before we can get approval and set a surgery date. This has actually been a blessing, because I needed to have a sleep study done, and found out that I do have mild sleep apnea. That explains some of the fatigue I have been expereincing the last couple of years. I have a target surgery date set for June 1. I am excited and really motivated by the posts that I have read. Thanks

Hey Texan, I'm a new Texan too! Did endoscopy today and band date is April 4th. Excited and scared! I've been in Texas a little over a year and the great food is sure not great for the bod! Just added to an already lifetime problem. Love being able to connect, this is a helpful tool! Susie

Hi. I'm also a new Texan. I moved here from MS back in May 2011. I'm excited cause I rec'd approval from my insurance today! In the beginning, I was going to have to do 6 weigh ins but before my second weigh in, she emailed me to tell me that the insurance had new requirements! No weight loss visits! So they were able to submit my case after my nutrition visit! I'm so excited!! I wish u guys much much success!! Let's get skinny!! LOL!

Today I started my 2 weeks of shakes, so the countdown to surgery is on! I think the rest of my family will lose too, as I'm not going to be my usualy slaving in the kitchen self! Plan to keep busy and try not to think about food.< /p>

Hi everyone, I am from San Antonio, TX. I have just recently made the decision to do this but have only been to one appt and already getting discouraged. The insurance specialist has called me once or twice and leaves a msg then I return the call and never hear back from her. I have a BMI of 40 but absolutely no other problems besides joint pain and back pain. I have normal cholesterol and blood pressure. Just starting to wonder if maybe the insurance is not going to cover it. :(

Usually they will cover anything over 40 regardless of co-morbidities. I have none, BMI over 40 and was approved no problem.

I hope so. I have Aetna And I have heard pretty good things from others who have Aetna. I guess I am just so scared of not getting approval.

Countdown - 3 days to banding!

Insurance - I knew mne would not cover any, so if you have any chance you are lucky. I did have a Endoscopy which showed a hiatal hernia, so since that can be fixed at the same time, it dropped my "out of pocket" by $4000 !

I live just past the medical center area of San Antonio, in Fair Oaks Ranch, part of the Boerne area. Anyone near here?

Hi Susie! My name is Sarah and while I'm not new to Texas (lived here 8 years), I do know that depending on where you are from, moving to Texas can be a culture shock. (I moved from Seattle to the DFW area 8 years ago...BIG culture shock! lol)

I am getting banded soon too. I was already approved for surgery, just need to have my individual consultation and hopefully will have the procedure done in June!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
