kvr1977 got a reaction from Mrs. Curtis in Starting To Have Doubts... Any Advice?I was still writing my post and I accidentally hit "send". (stupid touch screen) anyway, I keep reading people saying that it's a lot of hard work and will power and dedication and that you have to eat healthy foods and exercise and on and on. If I had the capability to do all these things I wouldn't be the size I am in the first place. It just makes me think. I am not saying that I'm not willing to make changes but I know myself. If we have the will power to only eat healthy foods and make lifestyle changes then why get the band? I know this sounds totally rediculous.

kvr1977 reacted to waiting&waiting in Omg Down 140Lbs In 13 Months! This is so amazing to hear... I hope I can lose 50 lbs and feel what you are feeling in the year to come. I have my evaluation Wednesday and I am self paying so unsure when we can and hopefully set the date for the surgery. I hate shopping too and just this weekend alone going shopping with my 14 year old daughter and seeing so many cute clothes that I once use to wear made me so depressed. I want to enjoy shopping again....I just want my life back...
thank you for your inspiring words.....

kvr1977 reacted to Allison0927 in Omg Down 140Lbs In 13 Months! My eyes about popped out of their sockets this morning when I stepped on the scale! I am officially down 140 pounds and am .6 (that's 1/2 pound!!!) away from my first goal of 135 pounds (will decide from there whether to lose another 5 pounds or not). I CANNOT BELIEVE IT! I am so excited. Last night I went to my friend's consignment shop for the first time (only carries the smaller sizes - really upscale gently used designer clothes) and I tried on and fell in love with an ARMANI jacket. From someone that used to HATE to shop - i'm now officially a clothes horse - and loving it!!! I must say that I have never IN MY LIFE spent that much money on one item of clothing (this includes my wedding dress - ha!) that jacket makes me look and feel like a million bucks - and is a little reward to myself for doing so great with my lapband. BEST OF LUCK TO US ALL ON OUR JOURNEYS!!!!

kvr1977 reacted to Jason Can Do it! in Omg! Insurance Good News!!I'm so excited I could cry. After a week of bad insurance news and stress this week, I was just approved by Aetna!
Here's the story and I hope others can benefit from the lessons I learned this week.
I am 37 BMI with Hypertension. 35+ and one comorbidity qualifies me for Aetna under my specific plan. I've been worried about Aetna approving me all along since I'm so borderline but I've gone through the process by the book, checked all my facts and was really hopeful I get approval. On Monday I got an email from Surgeon's office that insurance DENIED me. The reason is still somewhat unclear, but it had something to do with the length of time I've been on HBP medication and some uncertainties about my weight fluctuations the last few years. I was shocked because all this was well documented in what was submitted and neither aetna nor surgeon could give me specifics on why exactly I was denied. VERY frustrating.
The Surgeon's office wanted to cancel my 8/23 surgery date until I went through a 30-60 day appeals process. I was like, "NO WAY"!! I've got this date, have been working on this for 6 months--thinking about it for YEARS--and I've made arrangements to take off the week after to recover, etc. I cannot find another week off for the next 4-5 months so I was pissed off!
I called the Surgeon... of course, Murphy's Law, he is on vaca all week and unable to help. So I enlisted the help of my primary care physician of the last 15 years--who I love and knows my history better than anyone--and he did a "peer to peer" review with an Aetna doctor today and reviewed my case and advocated on my behalf. After a short call and review of all the facts, I WAS APPROVED and I'm able to keep my 8/23 date. I was prepared to self pay anyway but that's not ideal... not only because of the cost involved but because down the road, God forbid something serious happens, insurance wouldn't cover that either. So I wasn't psyched about that hanging over my head.
The most important lesson for me here was don't let others get in your way and be persistent... advocate for yourself and enlist the help of others who care and are prepared to help... like my PCP did for me today.
I'm so looking forward to 8/23 and thank you all for the great posts here. It's been very helpful to follow along the last few months and hear your stories. Will keep you posted!
Jason

kvr1977 got a reaction from binab in Starting To Have Doubts... Any Advice?I am so very very grateful to all of you for your support. I needed this encouragement. My Mom went to heaven last year so it's hard to find people who will listen. She was overweight for years and developed cancer, she died at 56. I decided to do this so I can live longer and try to go down a different path. I am totally willing to make changes, I already feel like I should have done this a long time ago. Seeing so many success stories on here has got to say something about the band. I'm ready to be healthy. I love this forum, so much help and advice from people who understand this. Thank all of you from the bottom of my heart. ❤

kvr1977 reacted to Mayasgram in Starting To Have Doubts... Any Advice?Interesting ..... I just got back from a 3 week vacation back home with our families and it became so aware of how I grew up with food as the focus in my life. Food was how you showed love . You baked a treat , Sunday dinners were a food affair something special for everyone. Not one pie but three ,two meats ,noodles , mashed potatoes .vegtables and salads loaded with mayo. Not to mention rolls and everything dripped butter. As I sat down to these meals it made me sick so much food , YUK!!! It just didn't want it ... it was overwhelming to look at . My sister was hustling around making this HUGE meal and all I wanted was to not hurt her feelings by my spoon of this and that . My sister and her husband were planning dinner while we were still eating breakfast and thinking about where to go for a snack to tide us over. Breakfast was 3 egg omlettes sausage bacon and fried potatoes and pancakes. Good God I use to eat like that.
I remember how you were suppose to leave the table stuffed and groaning. Now I food is just something you do when you are hungry it is not an occasion . I still like the taste but it is not that important . It is not my focus, I have replaced it with other things , like visiting at the table with my family , enjoying the food I put in my mouth , I enjoy popping up and moving after a meal instead of waddling to a chair and groaning... Food is just not living there is so much more to life then what you are going to eat today, that use to be what I thought about now with my band it's the last thing I worry about. I love my band and the freedom it gives me to choose a healthy happy thin life. Do I miss all that food no I eat what I want but I control it, on special occassions I eat a little of those special things , but with t he bands help I just do not need or want to ever go back to the meals that were a part of my life. I love being HEALTHY and yes I like shopping for clothes in the misses dept.

kvr1977 reacted to MdGardengirl in 1 Day To Go And Not Feeling Well....Oh my girls! Good luck to you both! I think nerves get the best of all of us the day before surgery. Try deep breathing and/or go take a walk. Something relaxing. Stay focused on all the reasons you decided to get the band and know that it has been an excellent tool for so many of us. My life has certainly changed for the better.
Will keep you both in my prayers..... Hugs, Marg

kvr1977 reacted to jen_1381 in Starting To Get Freaked Out:(I nearly cancelled the day before. I had a little snag with insurance and was SO relieved when they said they may need to cancel until we get authorization. When the doctor came through at the last minute and forced the approval, I was scared to DEATH!
I had the thoughts of - - I can just do this on my own. I've done so well on the liquid diet, I can do this! Do I really want this?
I went home and sorted everything out in my head. Reality hit, and the fact that 1) I was only losing because I was not eating, and 2) if I could do this on my own, I would have years ago and wouldn't be in this situation. I decided to put on my Big Girl Panties and do it.
I've never regretted it for a minute since getting out of surgery. I wish I would have done this years ago.
Nerves are completely normal - - it's real now, it's actually going to happen! Just take a deep breath and think of why you're doing it.

kvr1977 reacted to wineguyd in Did U Tell Or Not? If Not..what Was Your Story? While Gastric Plication might be reversible should there be complications, the main problem I have with it or any stomach reducing procedure is that it's too easy to stretch it out again. Many people with emotional eating problems force feed themselves. The band is a solid object restriction. It wins the argument every time, the only way you could defeat it is by downing ice cream and shakes all day. Please consider that.

kvr1977 reacted to egrazz in Did U Tell Or Not? If Not..what Was Your Story?I haven't had it done yet, but when I told my mother I was looking into it, she immediately went into negative mode. When I asked her to go online & just read about it (she doesn't know anyone personally that has had it done) she just ignored me. My bestfriend said I don't want to be negative, but.........and then proceeded to say nothing but negative things in a passive/aggressive manner. My husband is suoer supportive, he's my rock!!! My dad was great also. Funny but I knew these 4 important people in my life would react just exactly the way they did. So to tell or not to tell.......it's a personal decision and don't feel bad if you don't tell. What a shame that we feel something so positive is seen by others as negative and the lazy way out. They have not been in our shoes!
