Protein is key to cell generation, so it's important to get enough protein so that your body can heal the trauma caused by the surgery (ie, your incisions and all the tissues that got bumped and bruised during the surgery).

oh..o.k.. thats makes sense.. it seems like its the hardest food to digest with enjoyment.

My recommendation for evey future lapbander... GET A RECLINER BEFORE SURGERY! I didn't think about what I would need to keep myslef comfy after surgery I just worried about making sure I had the right food. I borrowed a recliner from my mother so I'm hoping tonight will be a restful night. The gas is worse then the incisions.... oh taking about incisions 1 of my small ones cracked open Dr Dietrick says this is okay to just keep it dry. I do not regret my choice to have this surgery I just wish the gas pain was easier to deal with...

I slept in our recliner all week!! I attempted the bed 3 days after surgery and regretted it, ended up back in the recliner. I second the recliner suggestion, borrow, yard sale, or new, it wont matter when it is covered in a blanket or sheet to keep you comfy.

I didn't sleep in the recliner after surgery (I was okay with my bed) but that is where I sat during the days. I never even attempted to use our sofa because it can be hard to get up from on a good day! It's soft and cushy and great for napping, but to get up from it, you definitely need to use your ab muscles. That's my advice to new bandsters--make sure you sit somewhere that you can get up from easily afterward. Nothing too soft or too low to the ground!

...boy oh boy.. i agree with you about the couch. lol. i forgot about how much i have to use my muscles to get off it.. lol. i

reckon i will be using my bed, propped up. ive got a telly in there and its easier to get off.

So, I've been stalking the February bandsters posts to see what to expect... I have my surgery in April.

Dee- do you think your friend might be jealous? It takes a lot of courage, planning, and determination to have the surgery. She might be feeling bad for not doing it herself and either trying to rain on your parade or see how you cope. Just a thought.

you could be right here...and instead of getting me down it motivated me to walk...2.35 miles yesterday...yay me !

I slept on my bed right after surgery during the day but for the night AND the past few nights I have slept on the couch with the back cushions removed. Its nice to prop the pillow(s) against the arm of the couch. Although I have to say that pushing myself down flat helped my shoulder pain immensely. Its when I get upright that the shoulder pain comes back. When I have to sit up I just roll on my right side and push up with my arm. I tried the recliner and found it to be very uncomfy. But It is very old and worn too. I feel better today than any day since surgery on Wed. However this left shoulder pain just won't go away. I find myself starting to feel a bit. unsure for when I get to food stages. Yikes

Okay so I got banded on 2/29. Feeling great other than coughing a lot! I think it has now caused my port insision to bleed. A little worried because today has been the worst day so far with coughing and my shirt has blood on it. Has anyone else has the incision bleed days after the surgery?

Feeling better today! Went to the store with my hubby and we took Kona to the dog park and I got to do a bit of walking. The gas pain is still there and it hurts when it tries to come out LOL. The port is the worst part at this moment, it feels like it is pulling and causing stress in that area. Also I am so scared the port is gonna flip or something.

I am feeling a lot more positive about the whole thing now, for a few days I was doubting myself which made me sad but I am better now.

Hey, I was banded on 2/26 and a couple of my sutures were still draining. I went to urgent care about it today, bc I'm paranoid. Doc said it was fine, but did give me a new antibiotic instead of cipro. (Yay). I've been coughing, too. What causes that?

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
