October Bandsters!!!

Recommended Posts

I'll jump in to this one as well. I'm new here and my date is the 17th just two days before my 51st birthday. No cake this year, we did that a couple of weeks about prior to the pre-op diet. Good luck to everyone!

I thought i came on yesterday and posted that my surgery went well, but i guess is didn't. Too much meds in my system i guess. So, on to yesterday, I got called in early, apparently one of the surgeons cancelled his surgries he had for yesterday so I was supposed to be at the center at 7:45 but they called me at 6:30 and said pls be here when u can. So i got there and signed all my concents, they took me back to put in my IV and such. I was wheeled into OR at approx 8:40 back in recovery by 9:30 and home by 11. My surgeon told my husband and mother-in-law that I did very well on my pre-op diet because my liver looked great and he has an easy time doing the surgery.

I didn't really have any gas pains to speak of until today, and even now they are minor compared to what some ppl describe. I have 4 incisions and one of them is larger than the rest.(picture attached to bottom). All in all i feel pretty good, aside from the fact that I'm sore I'm doing great. I have been eating chicken broth, SF popsicles, and SF Jello. When I get over the soreness I will be in perfect shape to start my new life. Thank you to all of you who give support to all of us each and every day you guys are all the best, and I know that you will succeed in your journey.

P.S. I started a Vlog on youtube, my screen name is kali5377 to anyone tha tis interested, I plan on updating it weekly.

Today was the first day of my pre-op diet I HATE the shake mix the surgeons office has you buy. It is Bariatric Advantage I may just need to try some different things. I haveput myself on liquid diets before and it was no where near as hard as today was. I just got to push through.

I got a call today from the Hospital today and I go do my pre-op testing on 10/18 I am super excited and nervous.... say a prayer for me that I dont snap and go eat everything in site.

So tomorrow is the day and I'm so excited. The two week pre-op diet went great except one emotional meltdown day. Most of the 11lbs I lost didn't come until this week, so hang in there those that are just starting out. Drank Pure Protein - 34g of protein and taste really good. I had to remind myself that with that amount of protein I wasn't feeling hungry it was the habit of eating I was feeling & missing.

Thank you all for the support, encouragement and honesty that this is not an easy process , but we're worth it. This group has been a great help over the last few weeks. I'll keep everyone posted on how it goes tomorrow and wish all of you success in the journey!!

Try the Muscle Milk light. So far all of the pre-made flavors I tasted are pretty good. Today I went and bought the powder, which I don't like at all. This is rough....

My surgery was October 12th and I came home today. I was laughing and talking to the lady in the OR and the next thing you know, I am in recovery!!! Right away they had me sipping Clear Liquids, sucking on an Airspirator and walking around. I was OK for the first coulpe of hours until the gas pains hit...... WOW!!!! They gave me liquid Percosets which really helped. I am now home still sipping clear liquids and only the incisions hurt. I have been really sleeping both days so now I am off to bed....By the way .... I lost 29 lbs. on the 2 week liquid diet!!! MARKW6

I'm scheduled for October 20. Finally. It has been a year getting this far. I start my liquid diet on the 6th. All shakes and clear liquids. The only solid food is one serving of steamed veggies if I need it. It is funny about how differnet each doctor is about the pre-diet. But I will follow my doctor's directions. It was a fatty liver that caused some of my delay.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
