I am just staring out.  I have about 4 days until my surgery and I am in the last phase of the liver shrinking diet (thank goodness).  I have been overweight most of my adult life and really overweight since major surgery in 2001.  The story is the same and well known to many, diets, weightloss, gain weight, etc.  I have tried most diets, dieticians, hypnotherapy and nothing kept the weight off. I started investigating Lap Band late last year.  My brother was investigating weight loss options as well, but his condition was more severe than mine and he opted for gastric bypass.  I spoke with him many times during my research and contemplation period and asked him very bluntly (as brothers will do) why he made the choice for the full bypass.  His answer helped me make my mind up.  He said that his age (he is older than me), his weight, (he is much much larger than me) and his general health (poor) as well as his inability to control a diet forced him to make a drastic life choice.  He said that if he were me, he would have done the Lap Band.  That settled it in my mind.  So, here we are - on deck with 4 days and counting.  I spent the better part of this year making the decision, getting the insurance paperwork, testing, etc lined up and set the date.  It will be two days before my birthday so I am looking at this as one of the best gifts I can give myself and my family.
