How do you feel about "born-agains"?

Others here feel it was senseless.

Because we were told that we went into Iraq because it had WMD, which it didn't. Not to form a democracy. Then when we didn't find the WMD the reasons changed almost monthly. bush actually said we had to stay (and therefore more soldiers die) so that the previous soldiers who died wouldn't have died in vain.

Well politicians can't admit they have ever made a mistake can they ? They have to try and justify what they have done.

Of course we will probably never have to fight an actual war against another countries military unless Iran really is as stupid as its acting. There is no country in the world that could withstand a prolonged war with us conventional or nuclear and by prolonged I mean 6 months.

I hope you are right. There are a couple of countries that worry me though - China is one - I believe that they could withstand a prolonged war and that their military could equal or beat the US. I hope that I am wrong and that I never have to find out.

North Korea is also a problem. Not because of the strength of their army but because they have nuclear weapons and they are run by a total nut job!

NB. This thread has become a lot more interesting than it was in the beginning. It's amazing where you can allow yourself to end up when you get sidetracked!

Even though none of us will probably ever meet I still feel more comfortable arguing on a thread about religion than on one that discusses your favourite sexual position or some of the other threads that we have in the off topic sections of the board!

I agree! You can say we're better off, maybe but who really knows? I wouldnt do it all over again. Way to many lives lost, for what, so Iran can control Iraq and the rest of the Middle East! I've said before, Iraq was a buffer to Iran and now Iran will eventually become the regional superpower!

If we go to war with any country and are actually allowed to fight without being hampered by politicaly correct bullshit no other country would stand a chance! (When we where in Somalia we would get shot at by thugs in Toyotas with guns mounted in the beds of trucks. We're sitting in Abrams tanks and other armored vehicles making calls to U.N. headquarters in Djibouti or some place far from where we where.to get approval to fire back, by this time the Somalis are long gone, they knew this was how it worked, bullshit! Dont worry, militarily we are light years ahead of any other country, even China. Chinas problem is they are a rich government, but most of the population is still living in poverty. If war broke out they would not have support from people who already have low moral. Trust me, I've seen alot of what we have militarily and theres alot more I havent seen. We've had stealth technology since the 70s (maybe earlier) so what do we have now that we dont know about? Think about it, stealth seems so new but we've had it for at least 4 decades! Today not one other country has an answer for it. The problem with N. Korea is way to poor, alot of sabre rattling. They know it wouldnt be wise to use the few nukes they might, might have. Back to China, they have alot of people but their military is still I believe 4,000,000 strong, I could be wrong. China doesnt even have an aqircraft carrier for their navy, Russia only has 1 Soviet Era carrier. The only reason these wars would possibly be long drawn out is because we'd be over there fighting with our navy and airforce just like everywhere else and China is a huge country. Our air power and especially our naval power is unmatched, no country in the world even comes close!

Im talking about actual war, one nations army against anothers, not these nut job groups, religious fanatics(im not talking about born agains either). I dont even consider "the war on terrorism" a true war. Not discrediting our military. We're fighting a cause, thugs from all over the world. Unfortunately we're the ones acting like its an actual war "with rules" so to speak! Of course we will probably never have to fight an actual war against another countries military unless Iran really is as stupid as its acting. There is no country in the world that could withstand a prolonged war with us conventional or nuclear and by prolonged I mean 6 months. As you saw in Iraq, we crushed their military in the first 7 days! Its the insurgency that causing the problems.

Not to change stories here but think about what we've done in Iraq. There is no other country in the world that could pull this off. Getting a bunch of religious Islamic nuts to agree to actually have somewhat of a democracy. All in 7 years time. Theres still alot of work to be done but it really is amazing when you think of what weve accomplished so far. Thanks to our troops and their families!

My opinion is, pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan and let the CIA and Special Forces do their thing! We will just keep killing low level nuts all day because they keep coming in waves like cockroaches, being brainwashed to believe they're dying for the cause! Let the CIA go after the high level members(cowards) who are hiding in caves. My grandfather fought in WWII and used to tell me he couldnt stand the sight of a Japanese person, as mean as it sounds, thats how I feel about middle easterners! They are some of the most ruthless people on the planet. Kill em and bury them with pigs heads. Actually I guess that would mean we had to kill a poor pig! Alright, Im done, sore subject for me! back to born-agains.

That motto is good for this life, but what about after you die? If you're not "born again" you will not have life in Heaven. That's what the God teaches.

And let's not forget that there is only one correct interpretation of the bible - pattygreen's.

Every other interpretation, including those of organized religions, that doesn't mesh with pattygreen's is wrong, according to her.

Anyone who has not asked God's son, Jesus, to be their Savior, and is not trusting in him to bring them into heaven when they die will not go there. They will perish.

I believe that Catholics do this. Yes, they make some major mistakes, like praying to Mary and other people who have died, and confessing their sins to a priest instead of to God, etc., but they do profess to believe in Jesus as their Savior, so any 'mistakes' that they have made will be forgiven thankfully. They will have to answer to God for why they did not read his words that he gave us to avoid these mistakes, and will suffer loss, as the bible says, but they will get to Heaven.

Muslims and Buddhists, OTOH, do not believe in Jesus, and therefore, will die and perish in the fire, unless when they reach their lifes end, have turned from their sin of worshipping a false God and ask Jesus to save them.

The Jews are God’s chosen people, and through them come the Jewish Messiah to bless all the nations of the earth. And it is only through Jesus that Jews can find God’s complete atonement and forgiveness. Most all of the new testament was written by jews.

While individual Jews must come to Christ for salvation, God is still not finished with Israel as a nation. The Bible tells us that in the end times, Israel will finally recognize Jesus as their Messiah.

You mentioned 'exemplary' lives. This is where many people get confused. Our entrance into Heaven is not determined by our 'deeds', whether good ones or bad ones. Only our Faith in Jesus determines whether we go to Heaven when we die or whether we get destroyed and perish in Hell. AFTER we die and our destination is determined, those who are in Heaven will be judged for their 'deeds' or 'works'. Not judged to heaven or hell, for that was already determined. But, our bad deeds will be forgiven and our good deeds will be rewarded. So, HOW you live your life is important for believers, for your treasures in Heaven are determined by them, but HOW unbelievers live their life, I guess doesn't matter, cause they live their life for the here and now, and when they die it's over for them. They perish. So, making the wrong 'choice' in this life is a very serious thing. Your very life depends upon it.

First off im Methodist , not that it matters on a lapband site. I did attend a Born again church for over 3 years and loved it. I do not think religious background is too important on a Lapband site . Are you simply looking to bash people? what is the end goal? aren't we here to lose weight and be supportive of one another? why does being born again make a difference in weight loss?

Patty, what you fail to realize is....Born again is a term . Many other "faiths" accept Jesus as their savior, but don't use the term Born again. When you have a relationship with the lord the term Born again is irrelevant. Making enemies on a board, isn't helping the cause. Just show love towards others and act christian like without condemning, after all , thats what Jesus would want from you.

Every other interpretation, including those of organized religions, that doesn't mesh with pattygreen's is wrong, according to her.

I am not perfect. I make mistakes like everyone else. But, there are some things that are just tooo clear in scripture to be mistaken for meaning anything else but what it says.

Here's just ONE example.

Catholics pray to Mary and to 'Saints'. In the scripture, saints are believers in Jesus who have died. There are many scriptures that teach that you should not pray to the dead.

"Jesus says to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, except by me. For one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." John 14:6; I Timothy 2:5"

So, if there is ONE mediator between God and man, then praying to Mary or saints and using them to talk to God for us is useless.

Also, Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.

Deut. 18:10-13

These are very clear instructions from God. They can not be misunderstood. So, even if a major, organized religion teaches otherwise, they are wrong. The bible alone is God's word and is true, not men. Even men of high standing, who call themselves biblical scholars, within an organized religion can be wrong about what they are teaching if it doesn't line up with what the bible clearly says. Many people don't take the time to really read it. Even Priests and ministers don't all read it. They trust what those above them have handed down in their lessons and teachings as truth, but in actuality are lies. God even teaches to be aware of this in the bible.

So, while there is still much for me to learn, what I have learned from reading and studying the bible for 27 years, every day of my life, is pretty clear to me.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
