my date is set for June 17th. I'm every emotion you can think of. I don't smoke but I use those lozenges..does anyone know if that is okay? I sure hope so. I can't imagine this liquid diet and no lozenge either. good luck everyone.....

Hi,

My date is June 16th  The day before You!!! I am feeling every emotion:ohmy: too! But mostly very excited!!! You'll do fine.

I would definetly call your surgeons office and ask about the nicotine. They may want you to go on a patch? ? I know you can't smoke and they don't like you to eat hard candies as you could choke if you swallowed it and blocked you opening.

Good Luck,

CarolD

I too am scheduled for June 14th for my bandster I am so excited to finally have arrived at my surgery date. Then today I received a letter from my insurance company saying

it is scheduled on the 21st. It better not be I have been on

my Protein Drinks since the 21st of May they were going to do the surgery on the 4th of June so I don't think I can drink

another week away. I will have to do some quick checking

Monday a.m. I am supposed to have my pre op done then.I wonder if they had the wrong person at the insurance company. :(

Thanks you reply Carol....I didn't even think about the lozenge could be a choking problem...good point though. How are you doing on the liquid diet....it's been pretty difficult for me. I cant even imagine three weeks on the liquid diet...I feel for you. I'll be checking in on you two to see how your doing. I will post mine too. Good Luck and you both sound so positive I know you will do great.

I'm just a few days out, procedure was on June 2nd - was really feeling scared/stressed heading into it since it was my first surgery, but so far so good - actually feel now as if the recovery has been going even more quickly than expected - the first night in the hospital and first day when discharged felt miserable, but it gets better each day I can tell you - if you feel up to it, get a casual walk around the block in there each day too - helps get your lung capacity back to normal and the activity can help avoid certain complications

the first 3 days of Clear Liquids were pretty tough, but once you get through it you can have small quantities of things that actually feel like a meal - for instance today was my 4th day out and I had a 1/4 cup of egg beaters a couple times today with some melted american cheese - those were my first real meals, just chew it REALLY good - haven't gotten sick yet and I also had some strained Tomato bisque Soup on the 3rd and 4th day as well - just be sensible, sip slowly, chew thoroughly, and you can get through it - start weight was 329lbs - I hit my pre-surgery weight goal of 314 just a week before the procedure, and I lost another 5lbs since the surgery date...so now I'm 309 as of today

also wanted to add for those who are asking about smoking/lozenges, I'd suggest the nicorette gum - I was not a regular smoker, but I loved to smoke a pack or so on binge drinking nights on the weekends occasionally - I knew I should not be smoking before the surgery or after, so I use the fruit chill nicorette 2mg - don't use the generic knockoffs, they are awful and don't deliver the active ingredient as well, or as much of it imo - this stuff tastes pretty good, and I used it right up to the surgery date, and started using again the first day I came home from the hospital

obviously you want to discuss all things I mentioned above with your surgeon since I'm no doctor and each person responds differently to stuff - but I wanted to just share this info so people know what might be possible for them - the sugar free (splenda) hard candies from cvs are really good too for helping to bridge the gap between the nicorette and sparse meals during these early times - you need to find ways to "get through" so you don't sabotage yourself after the surgery, can help avoid pitfalls, cravings, and nausea

Thanks so much XRL....I'll try the fruit chill gum...at least I don't feel as stressed trying to do both at once. :(

Oh you sound fantastic...that is such great news. My DH had his a couple months ago and he is doing great also. Good Luck on your journey....looks like a good start!!!!

Tomorrow is my big day. I'm still excited and nervous. Just finished my last meal before suregery. Well more like my last liquid meal before surgery tomorrow. I'll be staying overnight in the hospital. My prayers are with others who will be banded tomorrow. I am looking forward to embarking on this new journey of celebrating a NEW me. My next post will be after I'm discharged.

After going back and forth because of jobs and insurance I have finally done my diet, done the tests, had my first appt with surgeon and now we are waiting to hear from my insurance company for approval!!! I am tentatively scheduled for June 29, only tentatively because of the wait. If insurance approves...it's a go!! I can't wait...it's been in the works since Aug 2008!!<~~~put the wrong year in...ooops!!

Good lord...I guess I am just totally confused, I even joined here in August of 2007 so 2007 must be when I started! WOW talk about a ding a ling!!

I was banded 3 days ago, and I have had no problems. No gas pains, minimal pain and no appetite. I had to do 10 days of the liquid diet. Had no problems after about day 3 or 4. I lost a total of 9 pounds. Cheated one day with 4 saltine crackers. Just needed some salt and to chew something.

Now, I'm not feeling any restriction, but I also have no appetite. I'm drinking my slimfast and eating yogurt and sugarfree pudding.

The only issue I'm having is Constipation. Dr has me taking Colace, but it's not working. I'm going to take some Milf of M before bed and hope for the best.

Dr's appt on the 21st and hoping for a fill.

I'm on a 2 week medical leave from work, but may try to go back on the 14th.

Started walking today around the neighborhood.

I'm taking one day at a time.

Best of luck to all of you!

:)

Hello chaps hope everyone who has had surgery so far this month is doing wlel. I had my band fitted on Thursday 3rd June and cant believe how easy the process has been. Ive had very little gas (oh you wont believe it just as I typed that my tummy made the most loudest rumble) :) Only used pain killers the first day, scars have scabbed over and I am sleeping quite well. Now managing to sleep on my side for a little while, and I only feel as if I have done 100 sit ups instead of 1000! Stocked up on Soups and yoghurts, bought myself a decent blender so if I come across any soups or yoghurts with bits Im just blitzing them until they are super smoothe. Finding it difficult to take in 1000 cals per day so am bulking up on Complan which has around 250 cals a serving. Taking and A-Z multi Vitamin daily. Going to post some pictures once I remove the dressing from my port wound. managing to do most chores making beds, cooking etc. Not to good with the hoover yet but improving every day. Went out in the car yesterday no probs with seat belt just a bit of a twinge getting in and out. Can now get up out of chair without any pain at all. Great start for me feeling really positive and upbeat. So hard to keep off the scales but I have promised myself a once a week weigh in

Hi Everyone, my surgery date was Friday, June 4th. It went well, I felt woozy afterwards but went back to the hotel and rested and went for a short walk in the afternoon and sat in the sunshine. Painkillers are a must, I'm not a wimp about pain but the port incision is painful. The surgeon also fixed a hiatal hernia while in there so that could be a source of some of the additional pain. Had to fly home from Toronto to Calgary late afternoon on the 5th and that went well. Since I've been home I took only one painkiller yesterday and I think I'll be fine today without any. Shoulders have been killing me with gas pains, they migrate and sometimes end up in my sides or lower abdomen. I'm envious that you all can eat somewhat solid food, I'm on a clear Fluid diet only for the first 6 days, then only full fluids for another week, then pureed for another week. No real food for me for another month I'm afraid. I wonder why the guidelines are different depending on where you had it done???? I'm ensuring I'm following doctors orders as I want maximum success. I'll keep you posted as to how things go. Best thing is, I finally get to shower today wooohooooo!!!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
