Okay...finally home!

My eating has been a challenge. I know I need to chew but that first bite doesn't go down well each time. Even scrambled eggs hurt if not chewed enough times. But I knew this was going to be a learning process from the start.

My abs hurt more than they did right after surgery. Damn that back pack.

Time to go jump!!!

I am still not on anything that I can chew....I can't wait to chew...:). I get my stitches out on Friday and after that I can have the soft solids (eggs, baked potato, etc) I can't wait. I have to say I am tired of sitting at the dinner table with nothing while the rest of the family eats...but this is only for a short while

Hello everyone.

I'm supposed to start eating normal foods today...not working out very well. I haven't really been able to eat eggs this week. So I'm afraid to try anything else. But once I remembered that most people are really tight in the morning, I'm feeling a little better about the next challenge.

Not sure what to do for lunch today. Our cafe doesn't really offer the best options for eating healthy.

How are you doing today? Any plans for the weekend?

Just had my post op visit today and got cleared to start eating soft solids......I have to say that I had the BEST TASTING eggs for lunch today.

Then next Friday I am back to a normal diet (following all the rules of course).

Looking forward to start getting fills but I was very excited to have lost 11 pounds since surgery day on 7/13. :)

These boards have been pretty quiet lately everyone must be soaking up the air conditioning!! Stay Cool!!

Happy Saturday night!

I finally ate last night. Catfish, tiny shrimp and a couple of scallops is what I made my dinner.

Today was an adventure because I played McGruff the crime dog at a Home Safety fair. I was so hot...but the kids loved it. The rain moving in made it a much better evening.

Stay safe and cool this weekend.

Good Morning KC lap banders hoping all is well with everyone. Did you enjoy the rain last night and the 70 degrees that came with it? I guess the upside to our recent heat wave is one of my co-workers just came back from Vagas and while she was there it was 117. Couldn't wear flip flops as pavement was too hot, had to put her tennis shoes on just to walk across the strip to another hotel. So I guess our little 110 heat index was mild compared to a temperature of 117.

Well on a lighter note I went for another fill on the 15th (would have been #5) only to be told by the doc he wasn't going to do another fill since I was having some difficulty with food feeling stuck in my throat. I needed to practice eating small bites, etc. etc.. He made it a big issue I had lost 4 pounds since I last seen him (4 wks prior) and because of my "gender" and my "age" I had exceeded my weight loss since surgery so wants me to wait for another two to four weeks. I decided I'll go back in four. Then on 7/21 went to my PCP for a yearly physical and had lost yet another pound. I guess if I continue to lose a pound a week, fills are not going to be done. I am noticing that after my fills everything is fine the first week or two and then restriction. So no fills are okay as long as I lose but I don't want to get to a point where this stops and he has to fill and then issues occur two to three weeks later. Have three months to get things worked out. Made it quite clear at my last appointment I was flying to Germany in November and he went as far as to tell me to do only liquids while in the air as the band restricts from pressure. No food. Don't want to have the "no food" to be a issue while on the ground though. It could be this is my "sweet spot", who knows. The only way I know I am hungry is if my stomach growls and starts hurting. I never have head hungier and haven't for over two years. Well I have babbled on. Just hoping all is well with the rest of you here and around KC. Stay cool.

I don't fly anywhere until October, but I really appreciate the info on having an empty stomach that I've received here. Since I travel with a football team, they give us lots of Gatorade and Water on the flights.

I've been eating mainly Protein but I haven't been getting my Protein Drinks in. I'm going to start doing them more this week since I can't really drink in the morning. But the big plus side of my band is the change in my taste buds. I have always hated milk and now I can drink it down with no problem.

How are you all doing????

This has been a long day. The ab pain I had right after surgery is still around in my lover abs and it's now starting to get on my nerves.

Anyway, eating has been boring.

Anyway, eating has been boring.

The pain will get better, just takes awhile to heal. And you are definitely correct, eating is boring, if it weren't for my stomach growling and biting at me, I probably would only be on liquids.

Since you do fly, thought I would give you more food for thought. When I had my last fill, which was in June, I noticed it took about three weeks before I noticed the food hanging up in the throat, which I think is a form of restriction. With this in mind, I'm thinking when I fly in November to Germany, I'm definitely going to refrain from a fill from about the latter part of October until I get back in December. I have read and heard do not eat any food before flying or during flight because of the pressure that causes the restriction. Will take Protein packs and crystal light packs to use with coffee or Water while flying so as not to get too hungry. Whatever you do definitely keep your doctor informed, like mine said he would not be able to jump 5000 feet to help me with a stuck episode :rolleyes2:.

Stay cool.

How is everyone handling this heat?

Nothing really going on, I just wanted to check in.

Eating has become easier. But I really need a fill to experience additional changes.

Hey everyone just checking in. As of Friday I am on a "normal diet" or what the new normal is w/o breads and pastas. Things are going okay I am worried about gaining weight that I have already lost via the liquid diets. I have found that I am eating obviously a lot less than before and really have had no issues yet with any foods but I can't help but be a little bit worried. I want to make sure I get plenty of Protein but I still feel like I am not getting enough I might go back to some Protein Shakes at least once a day or something. Sorry for the rambling I am looking forward to my first fill and feeling some restriction I would probably not worry as much then.

Looking forward to cooler weather soon, this summer is going by way too fast!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
