Lots of people have written here about their favorite reality shows. I'm wondering if anyone else shares my addiction: HBO's "Deadwood." My brother got me hooked last season. The writing, acting, and art direction are incredible, and it's a fantastic story too.

It genetics. My mom has fatty arms, I have fatty arms. No amount of weight loss is gonna get rid of these ugly arms - only exercise. I want so bad to be able to go sleeveless this spring/summer. But NOT with these bubbly arms. Anyone know of some good exercises I can do to help firm up and get rid of some of this ugliness?

Visiting a friend who is interested in the Lap Band. Already emailed Barbara (babsintx) and Leatha (leatha_g) and got their phone numbers. :banana I'd love to meet some of you wonderful people. How does Tuesday evening sound? My friend lives five minutes from DFW -- let me know if there is a great band friendly restaurant around. I will check in with all of you when I arrive on Monday. Look forward to seeing you again (Barbara and Leatha!). Carol

I can be very dense, and this is just something I have never understood. EVER. Why would a woman ask someone "Honey, does this dress make me look fat" and then get mad if the answer is that they do indeed look fat in that dress? HELLO!? If you didn't want that answer, why did you ask that question? And why would you be mad because someone was honest with you??? enquiring minds want to know...

I should be thrilled that I'm getting more attention these days. But honestly, how sad is it that people are stopping traffic to let me in these days? Last year at 313 lbs I'd wait 10 minutes to get into traffic from my office parking lot. Now, people actually stop the traffic behind them to let me in. There's a 2nd part to this strange irritation: People often force me to make traffic moves that I'm not ready to make. They see me waiting, and they wave me in. And I politely decline cause I don't need that lane, but they sit there waving frantically, so I end up accepting their offer. This just happened at lunch, and I had to go 2 blocks out of my way to turn a…

  10. Ok, I am officially starting to get nervous, and even scared. I only have 5 more days until I have Lapband surgery. I leave for Mexico in 4 days. I hope and pray that I am making the right choice!!! I have been absolutely starving!! I have been dieting very hard, and intense since March 1st to loose the required weight before surgery. I have lost 12 lbs, but I have been in pure misery. I am feeling better however. Two weeks ago my doctor descovered that my blood test reveiled that I have Hypothyroidism, and that was part of my problem with my weight. He started me on Synthroid (a thyroid hormone medication) and I am starting to feel better and have more energy. The doct…

I am going to school to get my RN--I have been an LPN for 21 years, and working full time in addition to school.....Anyhoo--going right now to a school (community college) that is LOGISTIcally the best choice for me--not as much of a commute, etc. After this semester, I will have completed all pre-req's and the courses I am allowed to take that are required once I get into the program. This program is super duper competetive--I have a 3.68 GPA now, will probably go up to a 3.7 at semester's end. The criteria for acceptance into the program is this--GPA over 3.5 (good for me), resident of another county (bad for me) and res…

I hate this snow. Central Mass is having the worst winter in terms of snow. I just got in a car accident. I was driving carefully and hit a patch of ice under slush and snow and ended up across the street in some mans driveway. I took down the guide wires to his house and managed to mangle the driver side front end, shift the hood, damage the underside as fluid was leaking and probably something else. My son (16) was in the front and gallantly reached out to protect me as we were spinnning. (I shed a tear thinking about this because as any parent of teens know things can get rocky and its nice to know they will be there for you when needed). My daughter age 10 was …

  19. OK, I've had it. This *&%$ sciatica has kept me from walking (other than a few blocks) for three weeks now, and it's not getting much better. I am sick of lying around with a bag of frozen Beans on my back! (It's about as comfortable, not to mention exciting, as it sounds.) I had an L5-S1 laminotomy about eight years ago which was a total success, but in the last few years the L4-L5 disk has given me occasional grief. I don't want surgery again if I can help it, but I'm desperate. Chiropractic treatments have helped only a little. So, bandsters, have any of you with back & disc trouble tried VAX-D? Supposedly it places vacuum pressure on the disc -- a kind of tr…

I've noticed lately that ALOT of the "regular" posters have taken their picture off of their avatar. Of course it's absolutely none of my business why, and I respect their decision, but I'd like to say that I sure do miss seeing their smiling faces. I am a member of a couple other message boards for Lap-Band, but I got "hooked" on this one because of how warm, personal, and REAL everyone was. Just my two cents.

Later inthe evening, I went to the Golden Nugget. I was walking around the casino and heard some excitement at one ot the craps tables. I went over to look. I dont know how to play craps, but apparently there were 3 heavy hitters at the table dropping some big bucks. I stood there for about a half hour and there was a man standing next to me in blue jeans, baseball cap and sneakers. I thought he looked familiar and he was pleasant enough. I am prepared to go 5,000 miles to meet bandedkind!!! Anyone interested??? I don't mind when - preferably September or even the summer....!

I am invited to a party on Friday night - in a posh hotel! And staying overnight! And for once, I have accepted - 80lbs ago, I would have refused to go, making up some excuse as I had absolutely no confidence....and in the unlikely event I would attend, I was forced to wear something "flowing" and black, probably with some sparkly beads on it, that a 70 year old woman would find ageing!!! So, I now can go into Principles (www.principles.co.uk), my favourite shop from fifteen years ago, when I was last slim, and wear something glam and funky! I enlose pic of top I bought in UK size 20!!! (USA size 18!) It's their largest size but hey, I'm in the store!!! Whatcha think???

This is for all of us (Kathy) that have lost our grandparents - and want to share with others how wonderful they were. Lastnight I was listening to my 9yr old read a book called "Thunder Cake'. It was about a girl (the arthur) that went to visit her grandmother and while she was there, a thunderstorm started brewing. Her grandmother realized how scared she was and decided to help her 'overcome' this fear by making a cake (ha! having cake overcomes ALL my fears!) So she and her grandmother went to the barn to get certain ingredients for their cake, to the celler to get other things, then to the garden for something else. The moderators had a very interesting and fruitful discussion last night, and in the next few days you will be seeing some guidelines for the future. At this point we're just proofreading and fine-tuning. But one doesn't need any fine-tuning and is too important to wait. That is the first law of online etiquette: NO PERSONAL ATTACKS. Please, please, please, everyone, keep the discourse civil. Rumors and attacks must be stopped in their tracks and the only way to do that is not to respond. Moderators really will not be editing or deleting posts so PLEASE think before you post. Thank you. That is all.

I certainly don't come here to listen to good people, good friends, call each other names. And I don't come here to watch as doctors are glorified as Gods, or villified as Devils. They're just people, as subject to fallibility as the rest of us, and, at the end of their day they trudge through their front door and their feet hurt, and smell, just like any mortal's. I don't come here to add to the unhappiness of my life. And "If I don't like it, I can go to another thread". Well, take a…

I thought mine was the best. He was so smart, so mellow, so gentle with children and old people. He was so affectionate that he brought a lot of pleasure to many people.
