I was browsing around online today and ran across this website: www.lightenupexpo.com. "Lighten Up Expo is a special conference for people with weight issues, Bariatric patients, people who are interested in Bariatrics, and how Weight Loss Surgery can enhance the quality of their lives." It is being held January 10, 2009, at the Georgia International Convention Center. After the 9:00 - 4:00 expo part, there is a black tie (optional) evening gown gala being held from 8:30 - 11:30 that night. Just thought I would share the info because I know some of us were going to have a hard time making it all the way to Dallas for the other convention.

Just announced less than 2 hours ago. Warner Brothers is moving the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince from this November to next July. :tongue_smilie: My husband is in shock and I'm pretty disappointed too. The "countdown to opening" had just dropped below 100 days, and now this. Well, by then the theater seats won't be the least bit tight anymore. lol

:cry Has anyone else felt as though they were grieving at the loss of not being able to eat those old comfort foods? I'm struggling a little bit and have unfortunately taken it out on my husband. He wants to take friends out to dinner and do things like that and after trying it once and puking each time I tried to even eat macaroni salad I said "no more". I feel sad a lot and athough am thankful for the surgery and the weight loss am still missing being able to have a pbj sandwich. I don't think I really faced the fact of exactly how much "comfort" eating I was really doing. My body has the band but now my mind needs it as well. Any tips? Thanks, your fellow band…

I quit smoking two months before getting banded, so far its been easy. I had felt a lot of guilt from smoking for the last few years, knowing how bad it was for me. Last thing I wanted was to get banded and still be smoking.

So, I get a call the other day from Park Nicollet Clinics Bariatric clinic. The lady tells me they are in a partnership with the state of MN, a local paper and local tv channel for an ad campaign starting in October to endorse getting healthy. They wanted to do a write up on some of the success stories for lap band in the Twin Cities. She then tells me my name was the first to come up as one of their "Star" patients and would make a good story. They ask me if I would be willing to do a phone interview with a reporter or two for about an hour and maybe have my pic taken for an article or two. Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather. While I k…

I am a bit frustrated at the moment so I thought I would come here and do a little venting and hopefully get some helpful suggestions. First a little back ground. I moved here to Houston Texas almost 2 years ago from Michigan. While in Michigan I had BCBS as my insurance. I was paying a reasonable amount around $400 for it not being through a company. After moving to Texas I tried to switch over to BCBS of Texas. I was approved but the premium would have been around $1700 a month because of my weight which at that time was 385 lbs. There was no way I could afford that much. So now after losing 110 lbs I decided to try with BCBS again. I went online and began to fill out t…

Monday, August 11, 2008 CHICAGO - You can look great in a swimsuit and still be a heart attack waiting to happen. And you can also be overweight and otherwise healthy. A new study suggests that a surprising number of overweight people - about half - have normal blood pressure and cholesterol levels, while an equally startling number of trim people suffer from some of the ills associated with obesity. The first national estimate of its kind bolsters the argument that you can be hefty but still healthy, or at least healthier than has been believed. The results also show that stereotypes about body size can be misleading, and that even "less voluptuous" people c…

Wow! This is crazy! I am in SLC with my granddaughter. The auditions are Tuesday but we had to be here two days early for registration so we flew in Saturday. We got in line at 5 am Sunday morning at the Energy Solutions Arena. There were about 2,000 in front of us. (Many who slept in their cars.) Thousands more lined up behind us. This is the line to get a wristband which gets you in for the first audition. The doors were going to open at 8:30 am so that was a long time to stand in line. At least it was dark part of the time so we were only in the sun a couple of hours. After an hour of standing, this wild herd of iPod wearing hopefuls all eventually plopped down on…

Hello All! Question: What are you doing with your clothes once you dont fit in them anymore? I was turning them into a plus size consignment store here in my local shopping center but she has unfourtunetly had to close. I hate to just give them over to Goodwill just because I do have some nice name brand things and they did seem to sell well at the consignment store. Any ideas? Does Ebay really work?

Okay. I'm feeling as though I'm between a rock and a hard place right now and I'm not sure what to do so I thought I'd come here and get some advice. This has the potential of being really long-winded so I'll do my best to keep it down to the nuts and bolts. I was married in March 2006. My husband and I had a quickie marriage with just my parents and sister and brother-in-law in attendance because, well, we just wanted to. We planned a bigger wedding for May 2006, but I didn't want to live together before marriage and we were moving into a new, bigger place so we just decided, what the heck, let's get married. We wore jeans, had a blast and took the fam out to dinner …

I'm pretty fortunate to have decent teeth, but the fillings I got in high school are falling out, and the one I left untreated needed a root canal... should have had it fixed when it happened...better late then never I guess. Anyways,, I had my tooth banded today,. pretty funny huh? I had the root canal done and the tooth had a crack in the center so the doc wanted to make sure it would be okay for a crown when its time so he banded it.. No pain yet, but the only soft food in my office today was mac and cheese,, will have to find something better later. I need some fillings replaced, and decided that what better time then when I am preparing for the new beeuutiful me...l…

I am in a very distressing situation right now, lots of stress and anxiety which is my eating demon... I work with my dad who is 85, office is in his home next door to mine. He doesn't do much but the banking, answering the phone and signing the checks to pay the bills. He is very lucid for the most part unless he is not feeling well, which has been a lot lately due to back problems. My children come to work with me, age 8 and 11. I have never sent them to daycare and couldn't afford to anyways,, whole point of working for myself. my dillema: Another family member lives with my dad, with their teenager.. My friend's birthday is coming up. She wants to go out to dinner on the big day. I think it will be just the two of us. Last year we did the same thing and boy did she go overboard. She ordered 4 appetizers, an entree, a desert for the restaurant and the kicker....a desert to take home. Now I was sooo embarrassed just by the sheer volume of the food but then what made it sooo much worse when the bill came she expected me to pay it. I was sooo mad!! I didn't want to make a big scene because it was her birthday so I paid it. I never mentioned it to her but now I am scared that I will be in the same situation. So I was wondering do you all think it would be really ru…

Need advice. What to do! Situation is my mother is on hospice and will die soon. She has the hospital bed, special potty, scooter/wheelchair, bipac or bipap machine, oxygen tanks...the works! My mom owns her own home (the state will take it now-medicaid) My oldest sister was accused by one of my other sisters of taking mom's meds and cash from her while visiting. Seems meds went missing often and it was noticed after this oldest sister left...noticed by the next nurse that night. I didn't NOT believe it...but just let it go. I don't know who did what and I love all my sisters. Well, mom's in the hospital .... again. We are being told she can't be left alone-at all…

So today DH and I decide to head to Fresno (nearest big city, 1hr away) to run a couple of errands. He wants to go to costco. We don't have a list or really need anything but I like Costco, so we go. He bought me an iPod Touch for my b-day next week! I've been wanting one but haven't wanted to spend the money! I'll be 40 next Saturday (26th) and he wanted to do this for me! So it's been a good end of the week. First finding out that I get to have surgery about 4-6 months sooner than I thought and then to get this great b-day present from my DH! AND those are on top of DH coming home after being on duty for the last month (he's a fireman)! Anyway, just wante…

I have decided to train to run a ½ marathon. I joined a really great group called ‘Team in Training’. They have professionals that train you on various endurance events. Anyway, I am contacting everyone I know to ask for their support. I was wondering if you all could do me a really big favor and pass my website link along to people that you think might be interested in making a small contribution to this great cause. Hey there! I was curious if anyone out there makes their own laundry soap/cleaning supplies? I have been making my own laundry soap for some time and it works great and has saved me a TON of money! I started branching out and making my own cleaning supplies, chemical free which is great for the environment and my wallet! I am looking for a recipe for home made dishwashing detergent for the dish washer. I have not read any good reviews on the ones I have found on line. If you do anything that is frugal or environmental I would love to share ideas! Thanks! * I'm a dork I know* :biggrin2:

I am going to florida at the end of the month and previous to this trip never really concerned myself with how my butt will fit in the seats. The past two trips I have been on in planes (approx 2'ish years ago now) I had no concern about it, the seat belt fit and it wasn't super comfortable but I was in the seat trying to not invade my neighbours space as much as possible (i always try to get window so i can squish against it, or aisle if can't get window). I never worried about it then but I have heard that they are more strict about the "spilling over" now. Am I crazy to be worried/scared? I am probably either the same weight or slightly smaller than I was at the time …

Some of you might remember that I wrote asking if any of you could find "Crystal Light On The Go" in your local grocery stores. ( These are the individial size packets that are for bottled water) Well I have learned that they are not sold in grocery stores but I have located them on this site: http://www.discountcoffee.com/CrystalLightLemonade.htm Now I wish we lived closer to each other... free shipping with a $50.00 order! I'd like some of all the flavors:) Maybe some of you that use Dr. Speigel in Pt. Neches Texas might be interested in group buying?:guess They are also on eBay, but not as cheap as this site.

Hi, My name is Keri (Keri is already taken so I am now HKeri for this web site). I had my surgery last July and have had 4 fill's, I have not lost very much weight. I am able to eat a lot still. I had a large bagle for Breakfast with no trouble, I had a whole bag of pop corn yesterday and can eat almost as much as before the surgery. I had the surgery because I have an eating problem...I STILL have an eating problem. Can anyone advise me. Should I get another fill, is there a trick to reducing my intake and not feel as if I'm starving. I am so depressed over this and would be very greatful for any guidance anyone could give me. Hkeri

History: I work for a large company...was dating coworker...he was promoted...I was asked to find another position or be fired...found a job in a different location/division. Now, I'm trying to get a job back at the other location, in a different dept. It's closer to home and gas prices are killing me now. (Job is now taking 1/4 tank each day, plus toll road costs. Car pooling is not an option right now - none available.) I've applied online to one job - and when you do that, an email copy goes to the boss - was told I had the job, in the bag, etc...then someone else was hired. The manager there is who hired me into the company way back when, so know him pretty well.…

Good Morning Everyone, DH and I are major dog lovers. We have had Max, a chocolate lab since 2003 and Winston, a long-haired doxie since 2001. They are both wonderful, well trained and well behaved dogs. About 4 weeks ago, we rescued a one year old female golden lab named Molly. The poor thing was so underweight, you could count her ribs. Since having her put on a special diet through our vet, we have managed to put 6 pounds on her and she is looking much healthier. She is also just the sweetest baby and loves to cuddle. Our one and only problem with her is she won't quit jumping on people. Every time she does, we gently push her down and sternly tell her no…

Lately, I have noticed that people talk to me like I’m fat. Of course, I AM fat….but mentally I’m losing my “fat person” mentality. First, my friend still thinks I’m her eating buddy. We don’t hang out that much, so when we do, she talks about getting this food and that food, then gets that “you suck” look when I order soup or a salad. And, sometimes even actually says: “You suck”. Gee, thanks. Secondly, my boss is (my guess) around 350 – 400 pounds and refuses to diet. She is in that “I’ll start on Monday” mode. I’ve been there, I understand, but I can’t enjoy the same foods that she does. Today she brought me out a Maxine cartoon that says: …

I have a number of "most embarrassing moments" They all were turning points at the time, of some sort. A few of the "highlights": When I was a mere 180 lbs. and went to get on one of those swing rides that go around in the air at a local festival with my best friend. I got in the swing and had myself all locked in and the little carny kid who ran the ride had to come over and tell me I couldn't ride cuz I was too heavy! UGGGHHH To my best friends credit, she got outta her swing too and walked away quickly with me. :scared: When I got divorced and was going through some terrible self loathing I actually hooked up with a horrible abusive musician guy that I had dated …

There was a storm coming, so me & my mom went and got in the van to have a cigarette, then the storm hit really bad... it was blowing the tents, so we were being funny about how our customers are holding onto the tent for dear life-- [ame=http://s247.photobucket.com/albums/gg156/lalaweightloss/?action=view¤t=video.flv][/ame] Then it cleared up and in came the ambulances, 2 of the bigger tents were destroyed, and so far I have heard 1 death, 1 broken back, and multiple injuries. So weird, of course they cancelled the show and made us leave immediately.. never saw the Blue Angels. So glad we were ok, it was a scary few minutes!!!!! Broken tents.. Port…

I know this is a personal question but what about sex I was banded 3 weeks ago and I am feeling better. Do I need to wait before my husband and I make love? I'd never heard of it before yesterday. Anyone know anything about it? I looked it up and it says it's good for all kinds of things. Just wondering if anyone else has ever used it before? My 2 year old DD once again ripped open her poor knees after falling on the pavement at DH's fire station. She just gets all scabbed up or they're almost completely gone and then she goes and does it again! Poor thing is going to have scars on her knees by the time she's 3! Someone told me yesterday that they knew someone who used Emu Oil all the time for all kinds of things but especially for wounds and it keeps things from scarring or at least not scarring too bad. Any…
