Hi: I'm just in the beginning of my journey for what I hope will someday be a vertical sleeve. I've attended my first informational meeting with a local surgeon, and have gotten the referral to the bariatric clinic by my primary physician. I'm 5'6" and 236 pounds. I don't know if my insurance company will pay for a sleeve , but, I've been doing lots of research on it on the internet, especially on this site. I think that it's so wonderful for all of the support and advice that you all give to one another. I wish you all success on where ever you are on your journey.

So I just got home from an informational presentation by my surgeon and she has indicated that unfortunately there is a good chance that my insurance will not cover the VSG. I have Federal Blue Cross Blue Shield. Needless to say I am a bit bummed, I really wanted the VSG due to the fact that I have chronic headaches and take Advil quite a bit - which I will not be able to do with the RNY. Does anyone else out there have Federal BCBS? Were you able to get approved? While RNY is not out of the question - I just kind of had my heart set on VSG.

Hi My name is Jennifer and I am scheduled to have a gastric sleeve done in Juarez, Mexico by Dr. Jose Rodriguez. Has anyone used him or belightweight for this procedure? I am 5 foot 2 inches and am currently 250 pounds. I am hoping to lose 100 pounds or more with the sleeve. Does anyone know if this is possible? Or should I really consider Gastric Bypass? Any information would help me a lot. I am scheduled to have my surgery on November 1st, 2010, if anyone else is scheduled around that time I would love to talk.

  4. Started by MissLilac,

Greetings. I had my surgery on 8/4 and am doing well. There is just so much info out there and adjustments to be made. Had a semi-stressed day for the first time since the surgery. Look forward to my first fill so I can again feel confident that this is working for me. I have not had any complications but I feel like the band may not be working (I read some other posts as well, so maybe it's just because I have not had any fills yet). Mostly, my biggest struggle is drinking and eating. It's my hardest habit to break! And I am SO thirsty! That's it for now. Will read more posts as time permits.

hello.. After a lot of research,I decided to take steps to get the Lapband. I am very fortunate that my insurance covers the surgery completely, however,I have to wait 6 months. They require 6 months with a nutritionist which I am finding to be extremely helpful. My surgeon is Dr Erhlich from Fairfield County,CT. So far he is great and his staff is amazing. Looking forward to meeting new friends here!!

I'm waiting on a surgery date, but in the meantime I am trying out a few products to see what works for me. I recently bought a Protein drink called "Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60" - Fruit Punch. Here are the nutritional facts: 24FL oz Calories - 250 Sodium - 500 mg Potassium - 210 mg Carbohydrate - 0 mg Sugars - 0 mg Protein - 60 mg It's actually not bad, but I want to be sure the calories and sodium are within the correct range. Can anyone help me out with this one?:biggrin2:

He along woth Dr. Joyce have a program setup that is second to none. I am interested in hearing from people that have had the band done a while ago and the ups and downs they have been through.

I've had a horrible time of it since I got the surgery on the 11th. They also repaired a hernia. It started with my doctor telling me to take some tylenol if I felt pain. I called a few hours after I got home asking if there was anything at all they could do, because I couldn't breathe it hurt so bad. Most movement left me trying not to cry because even that hurt. After some debate they finally called me back at noon the next day and gave me some painkillers. (Four days worth) The painkillers worked okay. 20. First, I want to say thanks to everyone that share their stories on this site. I has really helped me "wrap" my mind around this decision to get the lap-band. I was successful losing weight on my own for a little while so my friends and family questioned my decision to get this surgery, but they are supporting my decision. I'm happy and nervous at the same time. I'm ready for this new journey and life style change. I'm ready to be happy about the way I look again. I'm ready to see some results after spending 5-6 days per week at the gym.

I attended a seminar in July, had my consultation last week, having my nutritional consult next week, my psych eval the following week, and my endoscopy on Sept. 14. I guess after I get all of that done we'll work on the insurance approval and setting a date. I'm 30 years old and have about 100 lbs. to lose. I have a very supportive husband and family. A big "thank you" for everyone for sharing their LAP-BAND®® stories. It's really helped prepare me and understand the procedure and what to expect. I'm so looking forward to having LAP-BAND®® and and starting a new and healthier life.

I've had a weight problem ever since I moved away from the good old US of A. I miss home! Support, advice and everything in between is welcome and appreciated.

I am eating just about anything I desire, with the exception of salads. I cant have those until I am 4-6 mos. post-op. I'm 5'7 280 lbs - I carrier most of my weight in my stomach. If the surgery works I'm worried I will have a bunch of hanging skin. How many of you have gotten a tummy tuck and did your insurance cover the surgery? Also some people said they were disbanded due to erosion. How long does the band work? and does insurance cover the cost to remove or replace the band? Thank you for your time.
