I was banded may '07 and lost 50 lbs rather quickly. Over the past few months I have gained back nearly 30. I was so proud of losing the weight I feel like a total failure. I still am not able to eat much, and can't keep down alot of solid foods but still seem to be gaining. I wonder if a band adjustment would help. I don't get alot of exercise, but I'm not exactly sedentary either. Any suggestions?

I don't understand how I could possibly be gaining weight since I have been extremly strict with my diet progression through the appropriate stages and my amounts are staggeringly small.....3 or 4 tbls of food at each meal. How is that happening? Doesn't that mean that when I'm able to eat real food that I'll continue gaining? This is so depressing and I was so close to canceling my suregery anyway cuz I thought I was doing so good on the preop diet (20 lbs lost). I've read that post surgery is about healing more so than weight loss, but how terrible I feel to be gaining on such small amounts of food. Anyone know why this happens or has happened to anyone else or is it ju…

Hi i am a august bandstar and so far i have lost 7kgs, I have had 1 fill already. I have been getting this pain in the top half of my stomach about where the band is this pain is not there all the time but when i get it it hurts, it feels like my liver is rubbing on the band, I told my Doc that i get sore (didnt tell him it felt like my liver rubbing on the band) told him it felt like that feeling of butterflys in your stomach but painful ones He reckons its just gas. This is stopping me doing just about all exercise, Has anyone else had this feeling?, i get it if i do abit more exercise than normal or eat something that does not go down well. Hi All, Had my surgery on the 8th. I'm doing my best to sip my Water and/or Protein drink whenever I can. Wondering if all the burping I'm doing is normal? Seems like whenever I have a couple sips, I am burping quite a bit. Also, not sure if the discomfort I feel is from too much liquid or gas or the incisions. It's not completely uncomfortable, but can feel like a cramp or gas bubble. I'm also pretty weak. Hoping that the weakness is simply from the surgery. Any thoughts?

I have 4cc's in my 12 cc band and about half of what I eat either gets stuck or leaves me feeling miserable. I cancelled my 3rd fill this month, but I have'nt been able to loose anymore weight. So I scheduled a fill for november so I wont be able to make a pig out of myself over the holidays. I am so impatiently waiting to see onederland and i'm 12 pounds away. I guess I just need to practice my chew chew chew chewing!!!

I have a history of migraines and also get a lot of headaches that don't turn into migraines. Because of this, I take a lot of pain meds. I'm not concerned about my migraine medicine because it is quite small and I also can take an injectable form but for just headaches? What can I take besides Tylenol? I know some people talk about taking liquid Tylenol, esp. right after surgery. I think I'll go through a bottle at a time if that's all I can take! Anyone else have this problem? How have you handled it? I asked the surgeon about it but he wasn't terribly helpful. I may ask one of the clinic doctors for suggestions.

24 hours after my lap band surgery on October 1st, my face became very red (almost windburned looking) and very hot. I didn't pay much attention to it and went to bed. Big mistake. The next day, my lower jaw swelled to the point I had trouble speaking. I developed lumps on my face and the itching and swelling actually disfigured my mouth and eyes. I ended up in the ER on Saturday the 3rd, where I was given a steroid shot and medrol pack. I didn't start the medrol pack until the next day (my GP said I should've started it immediately) which led to me swelling once again and negating any improvements. Back to the GP today (my lap band surgeon is an hour and a half awa…

I haven't even been approved, I just started with my appointments and I have an eating attitude!! I can't quit eating and I'm make such bad choices, I keep thinking to myself that I can eat this now since I will be losing weight soon. What a bad thought, I'm going to gain and then not get approved, I don't want to gain anymore but I keep telling myself while I'm making bad choices that it is OK, then once I have ate it, I know I'm wrong. Halloween mini's are in my office and I looked down in my trash can and seen I had so many wrappers that I hid them at the bottom since I was embarassed and didn't want my co workers to see them. Did anyone go through this and how d…

I was wondering if anyone has had the fun of a colonoscopy after having the band. I'm scheduled to have this experience at the end of the month and I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with the band or because of the band. I'm supposed to drink 1 1/2 ounces of something (I can't remember the name). Any way, I would appreciate any information any one has. Thanks. Tina

Hi everyone. Looking for some help. Last night I had the breathing test with the pulminary dr. I failed the test and need to go for an overnight sleep apnea test? I am not sure what this means - I don't have trouble sleeping that I am aware of. Will having sleep apnea cause my insurance to decline me the lap band surgery. So far I got the clearnace from my primary, the psychiatrist, attended 1 of my 3 classes with the dietitian and nutrionist - only two more to go and then just the appointment to get cleared from the cardiologist and I am done.Another question I have is - how long after you complete everything does it take to actually get a surgery date. i am hoppin…

Tonight I was coming down the stairs and my foot slipped. I was banded on Oct. 1st, so I am 5 days out. I landed on my bottom on the next stair down, so I didn't fall far. However, I fell hard and had a very bad pain at my port incision. I am feeling better now, still very sore though. Has anyone else been clumsy like me and fell after just having surgery? If so, what happened? Did your port come off? Did your band move? Would there be excruciating pain if either of these things happened? I'm going to call my doctor in the morning. I have a follow up appointment next Tuesday, but I'm not sure if I should go in sooner or what. Am I being paranoid? Please help! Tha…

I know it will be different for every person, but help me understand how you felt 5-7 days out. I am a teacher and finally got my surgery date. I will be banded August 13th. I will be returning to work on the 18th for a week of teacher workdays. That is surgery on Wednesday, return to work on Monday. Could you have swung that? Also, I will be starting my first day teaching after 12 days of the liquid diet. The first few days of school are very demanding. How weak were you on full liquids?

But, when will new banders feel normal again, when can we eat normal(But Healthy)..When can we go to dinner with family and friends and eat and not worry about PBing. When can we eat salads, meats, etc. When can we do girls night out(Drinkings). Right now I don't want to eat in front of family or go out because all I can have is mushies...Can't drink and eat together... All of these rules are getting to me.... OK, so I was banded back on June 25. Everything seems to be going just fine, however, I noticed today that I'm getting a pain in one of my incisions. Not even the one where the port is. One of the smaller ones on the right. Any clues? It's not red or hot so I don't think it's infected. Just odd..... Thanks in advance everyone

I have had an ok to rough week pain wise.. My fluids ..protein and Water are going down fine no issues, but I am suppose to start mushies tomorrow and I am a little worried.. I know to eat super slowly and super small bites.. Basically my question is ..a few times a day I will get what feels like a gas bubble in the middle of my throat and I will try to belch but nothing and then a few min later I will hiccup which hurts pretty bad I must say.. I am wondering if anyone else has had this. I am about 40 hours out from surgery. I am not running a fever but my face is flushed like I am. My face is the only thing on me that is very warm. I don't feel to bad other than tired and sore which I am sure are both normal. I have been drinking my clear liquids like I am supposed to until tomorrow then it is full liquids. Any ideas or suggestions?

I had my two week post-op visit today. Including my two week pre-op diet, I have lost 21 pounds! I am so happy. 21 pounds in 4 weeks. Having battled weight all of my adult life, I was so afraid that for some reason this just would not work for me. Well, thank God it is. Dr. is very happy and wants me to slowly ease into regular food over the next week. He said I am doing so good, no problems, he wants me on regular food as quick as my body will tolerate it. I realize I have a long way to go but I just had to share.

I wish there was a book that gave you examples of daily meal plans. If someone wrote one, im sure they would be rich because many people I know who have been banned as the same question......what is a good daily meal plan? How many calories should I be consuming? Im afraid Im not eating enough. I exercise 30 minutes a day and hardly eat! If peope who are losing 2+ lbs a week could share what their typical day consists of eating, I would be forever grateful!

Hey everyone!!! Just wanted to say that today I got my 3rd adjustment. I am now up to 7cc in my 9cc band. After getting my adjustment this morning, I could (right on the spot) feel a big difference. I could actually feel the water stall for a couple seconds and then could feel it going through. It was such a wonderful feeling.:tt1: I have lost a whole pound just since going to the Doctor this morning. I really hope that this time we have found my "sweet spot" and the weight will start falling off.

I was banded on 9/22 and have been on clear liquids since. I was supposed to see the doctor today but he had emergency surgery so it was cancelled. So the nutritionist called later to say I was approved for pureed foods. Got to skip the full liquid only. Yipee!!. However, when I asked her if I should start drinking the whey protein she said I should have been doing that already. When I got home from the hospital I called the nurse and she said not to drink the protein until I saw the doctor. Lack of communication here? Anyway, I had frozen some pureed cream of chicken soup before and had that and some instant mashed potatoes tonight in my baby dish that I can add …

My daughter was banded on Sept. 25 and is having loose stools and feels like she is going to vomit. She says it's more intestinal and does not have any pain in the upper part of her stomach. Her doctor said it may be a stomach bug, but I was wondering if anyone else has had these same problems. She was told to try soft foods at this point like eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, fish etc... She feels the food is going down ok and not getting stuck or anything. So why is she feeling so yucky?:tt2:

Ok, I was banded 9/30...since then I can only sleep (If you want to call it that) in the recliner on my back...When will I be able to sleep in my own bed again? :confused:When will I be able to sleep on my side again? Is this all normal, or is it just me? I have back issues, so it's really irritating to me... THANK YOU! I just want to rest... I need to rest! :blink:My husband has been amazing sleeping out on the couch next to me, but neither one of us are resting. We also have a 2yr old, I'm not doing so well with this crappy sleep thing. Hello All, I had surgery two weeks ago and all appears well. I have been a little aggressive on the 'pace' of moving from clear liquids to full liquids to pureed/soft foods ~ but always very limited quantities [measured by the tablespoon]. I've never had any stomach pain or weird feelings so I hope everything is OK in there. After surgery my doctor said my port was right in the center... under my under-wire bra band. I can see the incision but I don't think I can feel the port. Can someone tell me what the port should feel like? I'm also feeling a little guilty about not following exactly the diet and I'm afraid I might have done something to impact the band. Anyone else …

Hello everyone. I'm a newbie, banded on last Thursday, 10/2. Everything is proceding 'normally' right now. The first couple nights were tough to sleep with the soreness. I had to sit up to get any sleep. But now I'm able to sleep in my bed on my sides. The pain during the day has gradually subsided. Yesterday I was able to walk pretty normally, straight-up, without walking 'hunched over.' In fact today, post-op Day 4, I was desperate for some fresh air and went to the store to pick up some things, then later went on a 15 walk up the street. Also, the first two days were tough for me because alot of my back muscles (I'm a muscular guy from playing football in HS and col…

(Ummm, pardon my misspelling of liquids...it is not liwuids, LOL!) I was banded on the 4th. I have been so sick of liquids lately. The hunger that I get sometimes just doesn't get satisfied with the dang liquids...so yeah, I have resorted to baby food. Tomato Soup concoction with baby macaroni and cheese or baby meat puree with broth to Water it down. It just feels a little more hearty than broth. I still can only have about 2 oz of the stuff, but discovering something different is well worth it for me. Baby food has been a savior. The first doctor that I went to basically said, "if it pours...it's yours, so I have been going by that rule. I had baby chicken and…

I dont know if this is because im not that restricted or did I expand my pouch? How will you know? Thanks

I know my question has probably been asked on here before, but I am new (surgery Sept 22) and I am hungry. I actually have tons of questions and am thoroughly annoyed at my surgeons office for their lack of getting back to me with answers. They eagerly took my money (self-pay) beforehand but their interest in my welfare has definitely waned since surgery. I am in the pureed stage for 1 week and am tired of mashed potatoes and fat free refried beans. I cannot stomach even the thought of pureed meat much less the actual taste and am in dire need of some suggestions on what to eat during this stage. Thanks so much!

On Thursday I got my second fill, and am now at 5.5 cc in a standard band. (my surgery date was 7/29/08 fyi) This is what I am feeling: When I eat, very quickly (especially depending on what I am eating) I feel that "oh sh*t, I can't eat another bite" feeling. BUT!.... It goes away pretty quickly. I will sit there for a couple of minutes and sure enough, stuff passes and I think..."okay, let me try some more.." (rinse and repeat!) :-) So my question is...am I needing more? Am I almost there? Is this what it's supposed to be like? Isn't the fullness supposed to last longer? thanks!

I am almost 2 weeks post op. Everything is going great except I think I might be eating too much. I am eating only what is allowed on my diet (what they call ploppy food) but I am eating more of it than I should be. So far today I had a pack of oatmeal really watered down for breakfast, one of the pre-packaged sf jello, one pre-packaged smooth applesauce, 26 ounces of water. It is now almost 2:00 and one cup of decaf hot tea. This is stupid but I just didn't pay attention to the amount I was eating. Just making sure what I am eating is on my list. But now I am afraid I might stretch my pouch. Do you think I did? I am going to measure how much a pre-packaged sf je…

Today I got to start on puree. I had my first meal. It was 1/2cup 4 oz of cottage cheese. I did take heed and I blended it up. It took me a good 45 mins to finish it. And let me tell you.. It was the best darn cottage cheese I ever had. I savored each bite/slurp. I was afraid as you don't know how things are going to go and I took a good pause inbetween each slurp just to be safe. I am hoping I get more pep in my step after a few days. I just wanted to share. Glad liquids are for the most part behind me. So those on liquids keep plugging.. you will get to the next stage. My first attempt at surgery was on 9/18/08. They opened my up and closed me up. Apparently, the hyatal hernia was just to big for my doctor to handle alone. That surgery was on Thursday and I went back to work Monday. I got a call on the 29th to see if I could come in for surgery on October 1st, which I did. So I am banded (yeah!!!) I am so very sore. I am not allowed to do much until my diaphram heals more, they say it will be extrememly painful if my stomach slips up past my diaphram again. Has any one else had this occur or am I the lone ranger? Did the pain ever, ever, ever get better? I am walking, but not every hour. I try not to cough much be…

I had surgery on Monday 09/29 and I have not been able to lay down yet. I am sleeping in a chair and I am tired of sitting. When I try to lay down I have this awful burning in the port area. It sometimes takes my breath away when it happens. This also happens upon slight bending or twisting. I think I ripped the port out of place tonight! Is this possible? Is this burning feeling normal? Did anyone else have this happen? Any ideas? Help?
