Hi there. Just wanted to see if I could build a new home with some new (and hopefully old) friends. I do not wanna be 'homeless' anymore so here I am! This is gonna be a place for friends to meet (hopefully) and talk about anything & everything.

My name is Tracy and I live in Deer Park, Texas. I have been married for 6 years. I was banded in April '07. Got 4 pounds away from goal, quit smoking and gained 46-50 pounds back so I am on my journey again. This time as a non-smoker :w00t:

This is a life change and with it comes lifelong friends...wanna come along for the ride? :blushing:

Hi Tracy K .... my name is Jen and I am slightly out of control... can I join you????? :w00t:

JK...I'm here... and I am newly single and have 2 great kids and live in Troy NY

I was banded April 07... how strange is that...

OK... I'm in a silly mood today... Tracy and I met here in Feb or March of 07 and have been on this Journey togther. I have met my Dr's goals and am now working on my personal goals, I am 13lbs away from the one I set back in 07 and then going to work for the next 25lbs and be happy... ok probably not, but I'll just wait to see how I feel when I get to that point.

I'm homeless and am going to hang with you

Hi All,

I'm the newbie among you. I was banded about 3 months ago, and am half-way to my goal of 80 lbs.

Up until my second fill I was never hungry, and could eat any foods I tried. After my second fill, I started having food stuck on a regular basis, sometimes experiencing just tightness, other times quite a bit of pain. It came to a head on Tues & Wed evening, when I spent 3 - 4 hrs each night with a waste basket under my chin.

I had been debating wheter to go in and have some taken out, but I truly think I have only myself to blame - bad eating habits. Although I no longer inhale my food, I definately eat too fast and usually forget to chew enough.

So yesterday I decided to give my band a rest, go on liquids, then mushies for a few days, and start over. I'd love to hang with you.

Joan

Hi Everyone. Good to see all of you.

I'm Suzanne and I suck at the Band. My Band does wonderful, it's me that abuses it.

So, For the umpteenth time I will try again to get my head back in the game. I do good for a day or a few hours and something comes along and sidetracks me. Look, Halloween is coming up and that is my most favorite time of the year. So you see my struggle.

Thanks Tracy for getting this going.

Joan..welcome

The liquids & mushies after getting stuck like you have is a great thing to do. You really have to remember about the smaller bites. Here I am 2 years later and I forget to take small bites sometimes too!

:seeya: HiYa Suzie! Welcome sista! :frown:

For those who do not know...after a couple of months of nothing but stress in my life I decided to get an unfill. So, here I am with zero restriction, but it is nice to be able to eat healthy foods without chokin'. lol Since my unfill I have lost 5 pounds, and I plan to get a fill at the beginning of November to help through the holidays! lol

Joan...that is another thing you may or may not have known...stress makes your band tight. So don't worry, be happy! Easier said than done sometimes!

Suzanne...dont you wish we would have never learned to 'eat around the band'? lol I guess everyone does that eventually. A true addict will. Hi I am Tracy, and I am a food-o-holic. lmao

As I tell my Nephew, we all have an addiction. One way or another. What sets us apart is how we handle that addiction. Having drug addiction or alcohol addiction is that, you can actually walk away from that stuff. We on the other hand have to learn how to live with food. To not let it take over our lives. It ain't easy.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
