September 2009 Band Date

Recommended Posts

Wow..you have it rough. I doubt very seriously that I could follow your strict rules. I hope you have something that will take your mind off of things...especially since we have the weekend to get through!

I am going to spend the weekend organizing my closet into sizes..>I have 24/22 all the way down to 14/12 in there..I figure if I do things that make me remember why I am not chewing all weekend it will go by faster.

I already detoxed myself on the caffeine, so I feel your pain about that one too...I don't think I could manage it all at the same time without killing someone.

Good luck......September is almost here!

It is going to be tough doing food and caffeine withdrawal all at once! It does help to think that people do these fasts all the time (you know, people that are not overweight, doing it for spiritual or "cleansing" purposes). It is not going to kill me.

But I must come up with things to do to make the time pass quickly! Organizing the closet is a good idea, but that is about #2 on my list of top 10 things I hate to do. I need to think of things I like to do! I have a pretty full day tomorrow with my boys' 2 football games and a meeting at church, but not much else planned...

I am trying to think of it as a vacation from food. Free from thinking about it, planning meals, shopping, deciding what to eat, all of it. A positive thing, right? :w00t:

I am in the West Palm Beach area. I am having surgery at JFK medical in Lake Worth with Dr. Larson!! I am so excited and can't wait myself!!

I am going to do the pre op diet even though not required!

So glad we have this group to keep track of each other!!

Michelle - Where are you in Florida?

I am in Gainesville. Pretty North of both of you guys!

I have 4 days to go. I had to come in to work today..and then I will head to the gym. I am trying to stay busy. I think it is nerves, but I have had a headache off and on since yesterday. I don't think it is diet related since I was already pretty much on a liquid, no caffeine diet for the last month...oh well...maybe exercise will help it. I hope!

How goes it today?

Off to the gym but I wanted to let you all know that I lost another 2 lbs for a total of four pounds this week. So that is great news, because I couldn't expect to lose 12 pounds every week. Three days to go and hoping to lose 2 more pounds before Tuesday. If not twenty pounds is very good in one month, I think. I can't remember who was having their surgery on the August 31rst, but I want to wish you all the luck in the world and we will all be thinking about you on Monday, let us know how it goes.

Hi September bandsters !!! I had my last visit with the surgeon yesterday before surgery. I am scheduled for Sept. 4th. Started Clear Liquids only with 30 grams of Protein Powder per day. I was down 15 pounds since Aug. 21st. woohoo !!!:w00t: They took my picture yesterday for my file. Can't wait to see what I look like a year from now! Had a pretty rough night last night dreaming of all the foods I could be eating if not on clear liquids. Tried not to focus on it, but was VERY hard, but I have not cheated at all !! Need to apologize to my DH today for being so cranky last night. :frown: Anyway WE CAN DO THIS !! Hoping this next week flies by.

Hi, everyone!! Sorry I've been MIA, I had visitors in town so I didn't have time to post! How is everyone doing?

I can't believe that I'm having surgery in 5 days!! How many other Sept 2nd people are here now?

My first day of the pre-op (8/19) was AWFUL! I drank the EAS shakes and basically had to chug them down (I guess some things learned in college really do help in real life!). I've gotten into a rhythm with my shakes and food and am feeling really good about everything!

My mom's coming into town on Tuesday night to help out with my hubby and then my in-laws and brother-in-law are coming from Ireland 4 days post op for 2 weeks...can you say full house?! Thankfully I love my in-laws so I think the visit will be good!

Anyway, I'll be much better about posting and checking in with everybody! Hope everyone's doing OK!!

PS...do we Sept Bandsters have a nick-name? I think it's cute that other groups do! Suggestions??:frown:

6 days to go for me. Doc put me on Optifast/1 light meal for a week. Been doing it for the past week (down 7lbs) to get a head start. Supposed to lose 10lbs total by surgery (9/3). I have done the full Optifast program in the past so this isn't very hard but now the weight is coming off more slowly. Hope I get these last few lbs off by Thurs! Also, having a last supper with my carbonated drinks (diet coke, perrier, green tea cascade ice). Saying goodbye very slowly :frown: I will really miss my diet coke! I am trying not to think about the actual surgery (never had any!) but it is definitely time to say goodbye to the excess fat and the 85 different diets I have tried in the past!

How about September allstars? or September estrellas which is stars in Spanish?

OK I cheated today and went to Applebee's but I was a very good girl and had a WW meal at Applebees.I had the Tilapia and substituted the rice for mashed potatoes. I ate the Tilapia and the broccolli and only had about half of the potatoes. But you know I was only suppose to have liquids for 5 days pre-op and I did a week and a half of all liquids and then I had a small salad on my birthday and then a meal today and other than that I have stuck to my pre-op diet.I figured that I have already lost 20 lbs and some of y'all are allowed one sensible meal a day, so it was not going to hurt me. I also did something today that I haven't done since May 2008 and that was I got in a bathingsuit and went to the pool and I didn't really feel as self consciuos about it as I did last May. Last may I wore a cover up the whole time I was at the pool, but not this time. That is big for me. I can't wait til next year and maybe I can venture:cool: out in a bikini. LOL. Wish everyone the best.

Hi all September Banders! I just wanted to mention that there is a Sept 2009 Band group in the LapBand Groups-Monthy Groups-Sept 2009. Just wanted to be sure we didn't lose anyone (since this thread is in Pre-op) as everyone starts getting their surgeries done.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
