Recommended Posts

Colorado - My blog is here - Cortney's Journey...

It is the only place I feel safe to truly express what is going on with other people that are going through the same thing.

I have a few other blogs here and there but this one I use very ofter and write about what I am going through. Post op I might open an blog somewhere else as well.

Blogging is such a big help for me and I feel like it really keeps me in check with what I am doing.

I have your blogged saved as one of my favorites  I love reading too

Thanks Cortney! Now I have your blog saved on my favorites!

I am proud to report that I have made it through my first day of Clear Liquids without a single bite of food! Nothing but broth, sf drinks, sf Jello. And I am still alive, amazing!

I also had the best Last Supper with my husband last night. I described it in detail in my blog, for those who enjoy "Food Porn."

Two days and a few hours left....

Catch up time....

Colorado - How is the pure liquid diet going? How was your last pre-band meal? I have your blog as one of my favorites! Hope everything is going good for you.

Smilin - you are not to far North of me. It is nice to meet others in the same state going through the same thing. Some of my pre-op info said headaches will be common in the pre-op and 2 week post op phase. Where we are not getting very much. I bet you are really excited with only a few days to go. I know I am too. I go in on the 4th.

Pookie - you are lucky, no pre op diet. I wish I did not have one. Well really now I don't mind I am pretty used to it. I know how excited you are for it as I am just as excited for mine. Nice to meet another floridian

Amanda - wtg on your additional weight loss. I am sure you can get the two more pounds in the next few days.

jmtmb - I go in on the fourth and I am so excited and can't wait. Best of luck to you!!!

Megan - I have been trying to think of a nickname too. I really want to start a yahoo group for all of us so it will be easier to keep in contact going forward. So I will have to rack my brain and think think think!!!

TicTac - I go in right behind you on the 4th :tt1: I am getting so excited about it coming up so soon!!!

.......

I am ready for this week to start. Monday I have my cardiologist appointment and hopefully he will approve me for surgery. Or clear me from my abnormal ekg. Then the rest of the week will fly by.

Right now my weight seems to be at a stand still. I have hoping to lose a little more before the surgery...

I have started a Yahoo Group for all of us being banded in September. (I also am including those in Aug and Oct since we can all share how it is going) I just need to finish setting everything up and will share with the group.

Hope everyone had a great Saturday and have an even more wonderful Sunday!

Goodmorning everyone...

Yesterday was a tough day for me. My dad is in ICU and had congestive hear failure and a pulmonary embolism...scary stuff.

I am normally a stress and emotional eater, but I did prettty good. I am proud of that because I am trying to change my habits!

Well, off to the hospital again.

I wish your family the best. I hope you can find the time to be available for your dad. I cry thinking about going through something like you are going through.

Even if you don't have time for yourself right now, it's important to be prepared for your daily food intakes. Have 64 Fluid ounces of bottled fluids out and ready for the day. Rely on the Protein Shakes and quick foods, like string cheese, the Protein Bars, whatever fast food that fits in with our agenda and works for you. Keep some in your car in a cooler, so some more walking can be done to and from the car.

Keep us posted, remember, this forum is great for support.

Anita

Well I made it to 250. I am so happy, but I have a terrible headache today, so I will keep this to a minimum. I wonder if I could lose 5 more by Tuesday, I doubt it but you never know. LOL:biggrin:

i am getting banded in 2 days and am having a hard time with the last few days of the pre-op liquids. i just keep thinking that most Dr.s don't require the full 2 week liquid diet anymore, but i hope all goes well. if i had more will power i wouldnt be needing the lap band, right? trying as hard as i can to stick to it, but have to be honest, i have had a few solids here and there.

Hi TicTac and Mosean6278and others Sept Bandsters. Two days until banding for me also - Tuesday Sept 1 at 11:30 EST. I am also getting nervous - thinking about the discomfort and missing work. I only plan on being off for 2 days and then working from home (desk work) on Thursday and Friday. Hope that is enough. Even though I have been on liquids for 12 days, I still am hungry. Hopefully it will go away after the surgery. Good luck to you!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
