September 2009 Band Date

Recommended Posts

Hi Kimr, I am being banded on Sept 1 and have been on the liquid diet for 6 days now. For Protein, I am having costco Protein Shakes or Muscle Milk shakes. The other liquids I am having are Water, broth, calorie-free flavored water, diet soda (can't have after surgery), sugar free popsicles and sugar-free Jello. I also drink coffee in the morning and herbal tea in the evening. I am pretty hungry though....

Hi there, I am getting my band 9/1 also. I did protein shakes last week - voluntarily - but just eating normally now until I have to start my 3 days of Clear Liquids (Sat). That is all my surgeon requires.

Keep up the good work, you must be losing lots already!:)

Hi ColoradoMom - 3 days of clear liquids and no Protein Shakes even? That would be really challenging. It's interesting how the surgeons are so different in their requirements. It will all be worth it! Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement Boo! I'm trying to avoid gaining and just maintain until my pre op diet. I don't want to just dig myself deeper and be discouraged from having even more weight to lose! I'm on the lower end of the BMIers (35), so I have about 75lbs to lose. I was probably about 15 or 20lbs lighter in my profile pic. Plus I've learned to deceive the camera pretty well :)

Well, thats some good deceiving then! You should share your tricks. LOL I am in the same spot...I've lost some during the 3 month dieting and DO NOT want to gain it back, but I've been in a stale mate the past couple weeks. I don't care if I don't loose anymore presurgery, but I don't want to gain. It's too hard to loose it all, but to loose it twice is a bummer (as if we haven't all done this anyway!).

I am in guys! I was approved by Aetna last week and have surgery scheduled for September 28th with Dr Matin at Baylor Hospital in Grapevine, TX. I am very excited! I hope my signature and ticker work - this post is sort of a test of my updated profile.

That is wonderful news. I am still waiting from Aetna and was submitted last Wednesday. I'm so excited but getting more and more nervous? How long did it take for your approval from when you were submitted?

Hang in there BonanzaMan, I'm getting banded the 1st. I was put on a 2shakes,one reasonable meal a day diet till Sunday. Then it's an all liquid diet till the Big Day on Tuesday. I haven't lost any weight, I hope they don't re-schedule. I think is the stress of the surgery. I've tried to do all liquids but, like you I give in. :)

Hang in there Soco, it will start falling off any day now!!!! One more week!

I ordered my little utensils from CB2.com They are perfect and not pricey. I also found some pretty cute appetizer type dishes that were unbelievably cheap..so I ordered them and today I tossed every plate larger than 5 inches from the house! It was TOTALLY liberating!

First off, GREAT JOB on the weight loss!! Way to go girl!

I just wanted to tell you I just checked out them little utensils and ordered some for myself. I have been really worried about the little bites and chewing and stuff and figure they might help get me started and in a routine and I won't be eating with a baby fork. LOL Thanks for the tips!

Boo

Today was a much better day. i made it thrpugh on program with no deviations. The bullion really helps curb the hunger, and it counts as liquid as well.

It helps to stay busy too, so you don't just sit around and think about food. Tomorrow is another day, I am hoping it will be a good one.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
