September 2009 Band Date

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. It's great to see all the new people on here. Well today I have been on the liquid diet for one whole week and I have lost 12 lbs. Yeah! I had lost 4 lbs more before from just not drinking sodas. So that's a grand total of 16 lbs and I am so happy. I am tying to lose 10% of my weight by September 1rst and I only have 11 lbs to go and 10 days left, so we will see. I am glad to say that I haven't cheated even when I went with my mom to TGIF. I had a small bowl of Broccoli and cheese Soup. It was yummy. It's been hard but I think that I can do another 10 days since I've already done 8 days. So good luck to all.

Hello everyone. Checking in. Been a busy week and I haven't had time to log on. Five more pages since I was here. Whew!

My hubby went with to the nutrition/pre-op class, and guess what! He says he's going to try and do the 14 day pre surgery Protein Shake diet with me. That will help a WHOLE lot. Of course, on the other hand, he'll probably lose about 25 pounds doing it and I'll be lucky to lose 5.

The nutritionist mentioned bariatriceating.com and I went there and ordered their variety pack of Protein Shakes and some chewable vitamins. That's the first place I've seen that has chewable Calcium that is actually calcium citrate which is supposed to be the best kind for you. Absorbs better. Of course now I have to figure out how to remember to take my Multivitamin with Iron separate from my calcium and get enough calcium while only taking it in 600 mg. doses.

My mind is beginning to reel from trying to keep all the facts and figures in my head. At the class, the nutrionist gave us a booklet, then the bariatric specialist/nurse gave us one and then the doctor gave me a looseleaf notebook full of stuff and is evidently also sending me a video to watch.

Just one more week for bunches of you... hang in there, the day will come before you know it!

I have a September 3 surgery date. My doctor has a 2 week Protein bar / Protein Shake regimen that I was supposed to start this past Thursday. I had to have both an upper and lower GI scope to get cleared for surgery. Those were done on Wednesday and Thursday last week, so no real food, only liquids for those days. Then came the weekend - we had out of town guests Friday and Saturday. I did pretty good on the shakes each day until dinner, when I broke down and ate.

Today is better, although I am starving. I am really worried about shrinking my liver, as my doctor ordered a CT scan for my abdomen to diagnose some spots. The spots wre no big deal, but they were concerned about the size of my liver. This pre-op diet has to work for me, as I have almost a year invested in this process so far. I am really having a hard time with will power, but need to find a way to tough it out.

Good luck to all of the other September bandsters.

UHC called with my approval on 8/19/09, scheduled for surgery 9/24/09! Its been a year and a half in the making, with some personal trials during that time, but I am soooo excited now!

Also, I could use a little education on how to use the tickers that everyone uses!

Hang in there BonanzaMan, I'm getting banded the 1st. I was put on a 2shakes,one reasonable meal a day diet till Sunday. Then it's an all liquid diet till the Big Day on Tuesday. I haven't lost any weight, I hope they don't re-schedule. I think is the stress of the surgery. I've tried to do all liquids but, like you I give in.

Bonanza - I know how you feel with starving. I am on pure liquids, started on Friday and yesterday was the worst. I drank about 64 oz of brooth yesterday just to try and help. And had a slice of cheese last night.

Going from food to no food is really hard and dinner time is the worst for me too.

Maybe check with your doctor what else they would approve you to eat so when your family is eating that you have a glass of brooth.

My doctor approves of any sugar free Jello, popsicles, hard candy, gum and then brooth (has to be made from bouillion cubes though) and herbal teas, diet soda, coffee.

Chewing the sugar free gum has really helped when my family is eating also the brooth really helped me yesterday make it through the day.

Today is day 4 pre op diet and I woke up to a talking stomach saying feed me...but I am drinking my Water and it is calming down.

That is the other big think I am working on, getting my gallon of water in a day. So far on just pure water I am getting in 3/4's of a gallon which I think is pretty good.

I also told my husband to keep remembering me what I am doing this for and to tell me NO when I am going for something to eat which also has been a big help. That I can do this and to be strong.

Stay positive...you can do this... just remember everytime you look at food that you have been setting this up for a year and NOW is your time. I say things like that to me and it has helped.

Sorry if this thread has already been started but I looked around a bit and couldn’t find one. I think that those of us who are scheduled for September need a place to support each other, help pass the time, and not spam up the boards with a thousand approved threads:tongue2:!!! I am so excited to being this journey. So, how about it? Any lost September banders out there?:crying::ohmy:

Sorry been a couple of days since I checked in, busy weekend. Went to a beer festival and enjoyed every last drop since I won't be having it anymore.

My surgeon says that I need to avoid alcohol for one year, after that a glass of wine here and there is not a big deal. They really feel it's just empty calories, so not a good thing for weight loss. But after having the surgery apparently one glass is plenty, as we will absorb it much quicker. He said we'd be cheap dates. :-)

I did get my insurance approval, in fact my office won't schedule surgery until it's done. My process was very fast, about one month start to finish. I would have had my surgery this month, but am traveling and asked for it the 15th when I'm back and my mom can come down to help with the kids.

It's great to see so many September bandsters.

Hi Kimr, I am being banded on Sept 1 and have been on the liquid diet for 6 days now. For Protein, I am having costco Protein Shakes or Muscle Milk shakes. The other liquids I am having are Water, broth, calorie-free flavored water, diet soda (can't have after surgery), sugar free popsicles and sugar-free Jello. I also drink coffee in the morning and herbal tea in the evening. I am pretty hungry though....

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
