I just found the May bandsters... so I'll start w/my weight the day of surgery was 346.6 but my pre-op weight 2 wks prior to surgery was 358.5. I was banded on May 19, 2009. I had my first fill on 6/12 with 2CC's... I was down to 334.5 by that point. I went for my 2nd fill on 7/22, 1 CC and I was down to 313.5. I had to go back the next week, I was too tight, they took out 1/2CC leaving me with a total 2.5 CC's in my band. I go for my 3rd fill on Sept 9th. By my scale two days ago I was down to 308.4, so I hit my total since surgery is 38.2 but a grand total of 50.1. I am THRILLED!!

I haven't posted in a while because I have been stuck in band hell... the deepest, darkest place ever!

I just had my 3rd fill this week, and I have 5.75 cc's (in a 10 cc band) and hopefully I wont be as hungry as I have been.

Even having said that, I lost 11 lbs this past month from my 2nd to 3rd fill! I am down 29 lbs since first seeing the surgeon, and 66 since I began this whole experience with the 6-month diet ordeal.

Yay!!!

Dropped a few more (was down, up, down) and hit a new mark - 210 this morning, 76 pounds gone! (most of it before surgery, but still a good amount since).

I went in for my 2nd check up and we decided not to do another fill. So I'm at 2.4cc and will let it ride for now - I'm losing at a good rate and feeling good restriction. I can reevalute going forward and we'll change our minds on more fill if necessary.

10 more to go to get under 200 and 40 more to go for my goal.

The scale finally moved downward this week. I am .2# down from my lowest the first week of August but I am 1.6# down from 8/14. I had a fourth fill yesterday and am hoping that this is the right amount to help me continue losing.

Congrats to everyone on their weight loss!

Starting weight 214

Surgery weight 199

Today's weight 173.6

Oh, by the way Ann. I was standing at the deli at Giant Eagle a few days ago buying stuff for an Itial. hoagie for my husband thinking how much I would love to have one. All the sudden an image of a cat and a mouse popped in my head saying "remember diet" I laughed out loud in the store. They probably thought I was nuts.

Anyway thanks for the laugh! It helps.

LOL! I'm glad I could be of help.

I was away on vacation last week so I haven't weighed in until this morning. I actually lost 5 lbs. since my last weigh-in, for a total of 60 lbs. lost. I am so excited! I did a lot more walking and swimming at the beach, so that helped tremendously!

Congrats to everyone -- you're all doing soooo well! :blushing:

Wow! I feel like I'm always bringing up the rear.... Banded May 11th, have had 3 fills and only lost 22.5. I swear I've got the metabolism of a banana slug! I'm also having trouble feeling full- I feel like I can put way too much in there at any time. Maybe next time I'll ask for a quick floro with the fill. Anyone else slow losing out there among the mayo Banditos?? I want to be brave and keep checking in- Beth

Yes, too slow. I am down to a pound a week if I am lucky. I have scheduled 2nd fill for the 21st. Mine will always be with fluro, so maybe I get enough this time to have some restriction.

I can eat anything, and way too much if I want to. I don't care to have any episodes like others have had to endure, however, I do want to get the most out of the band.

Patience, Patience! Not my best quality.

At least the weight is not going up.

Good grief John, you left us in the dust. You're amazing.

No loss this week for me. Patience, patience. I have to work hard at not getting discouraged. I know it will happen in time. I'm just waiting for that fill on the 21st.

Good luck to everyone next week.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
