Recommended Posts

WOW, WOW, WOW!!!!! You all are amazing!!!! :D:w00t::D You have all done so well this week! Even you, Rebecca, because you are hanging in there!

And, John, you're the first to get to 100!! We have to have a party for you!!! :party:I hope you don't abandon us once you reach your goal. You started this group and are our inspiration, and we would like to see you continue to check in and give us tips and support. :smile2:

I lost 2 lbs. this week, for a total of 62 lost so far. I'm really happy! I made a change two weeks ago that I believe has really helped me. I started drinking an Unjury Protein Shake every morning for Breakfast. I never am able to eat much in the mornings and therefore, I sometimes skipped breakfast and didn't get enough Protein in for the day. Once I started doing the protein shake every morning, I felt like I had more energy, and I've lost 6 lbs. in the two weeks since I've been doing it. Can't be certain that it is related, but it makes me feel better, so I'm going to keep it up. Just thought I'd pass that along in case anyone else is skipping breakfast because of being too tight in the morning.

I gained 2 #'s this week, but it's only because I was taken off of one of my blood pressure meds (the diuretic) and taken down to 1/2 of the other one. I may be completely off of that one by next Thursday if all goes well. My blood pressure is down to low normal and that was one of my biggest reasons for getting banded. Yahoo! Also, I didn't get my fill this week because I'm at the rate my doctor wants. I'm okay with it. I'm still not eating too much. GB

It's interesting that they JUST took you off your diuretic HBP meds... they took me off mine BEFORE my surgery and didn't put me back on because they wanted me to be taking in fluids and not taking something that will take the fluids away... keep up the good work!!

O.k. So it's been a while since I last checked in, and I'm maing up for it big time.... went to my doc yesterday, and had to have .6 cc's removed.. Should have went sooner I know but I thought the restriction would "settle" and the PB'ing and vomiting would stop on it's own. So in 6 weeks apparently I lost 5lbs.... Which he wasn't happy with And like I've stated in a few posts has fluctuated up and down. So he took the Fluid out.

Also, the reason for for the unfill, was he did some quick work, and Said I was basically starving, and was in "camel mode" for probably at least 3 weeks. My blood pressure was really low, and I've had a Migraine for 5 days, My Protein levels were also low and my hair has been falling out dramatically for about 3 weeks. So the unfill was neccessary. So with the unfill now, I should be back on track, start losing again, and I have to start drinking the Protein Shakes again to get my levels back up. at least 2 a day for about 4 weeks.

So thats how it's been with me.

Hey, Sarah, sorry to hear about your "camel mode" episode. I've never heard it described that way, but it makes sense. I'm glad you have a good doctor who recognized immediately what you need to do. I started adding a Protein Shake every morning about two weeks ago, and it jump-started my weight loss. I'm sure it will with you, also. (My hair is also falling out like crazy!)

Good luck to you, Sarah! Keep your chin up!:)

it was really scary there for a sec. it feels good to EAT AND NOT BE SICK for the past 2 days. here I thought I was doing soo good, just bucking it up you know? not only am I upping the Protein, I'm incorporating a little fat back into the diet.. the difference now then before my surgery, I KNOW THE DIffERENCE between "good fat", "bad fat" and un-neccessary stay the hell away from it fat!!!!The Protein Shakes I'm drinking have 26 grams of protein, and 3 grams of fat, so Then the rest of the day is low carb/cal, low fat.... except for the raw nuts. but thats good fat!!! He also suggested for the hair problem, GNC has Vitamins for women that help improve hair, nails & skin. So I'm going to look into it. Basically it's b-12 & Omega 3, but I have to find a non-fish based Omega 3 because I'm allergic to Cod, and thats what most of them are made of. So, Ann, there ya go.. GNC

Sorry I've been absent for a few weeks, just pure laziness on my part. My weight loss has slowed down the last few weeks and it gets discouraging. Spidey, I'm gonna try your Protein Shake for breakfast idea. I an't complain though, I'm down a total of 35 pounds since surgery and I feel GREAT! I got in more exercise the last few days and it did budge the scale a bit, so I'm gonna run with that (literally.)

I'm so glad you're adjusted more comfortably, Sarah. My best friend had similar issues after her 2nd fill, and removing .5cc's gave her instant relief. As for the Hair loss - I'm right there with you. I was told to take Biotin. CVS has a 'Hair, Skin, & Nails' mulivitamin that I just started taking. I'm also upping my 30gm Protien shake from 1 to 2 a day. I think I've been Vitamin and protien difficient as I wasn't taking a Multivitamin and I thought I got enough protien from my food - but it wasn't enough when I analyzed what I was actually eating. Also, my hairdresser friend gave me Nioxin Shampoo and conditioner to treat the scalp for thinning hair. It's available at beauty supply stores. She said she's never seen someone go bald from weight loss, and that it is very temporary.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
